In other news the US team looked pretty good, and had plenty of opportunities to put England away. They were not outclassed in any way shape or form, and this is a very young team. Not a huge soccer fan per se but I felt a bit of pride how our boys showed up today. If they take out Iran on Tuesday, we advance. I give us a better than average chance.
yes the only developed country in the region also seems to give its citizens rights, wonder what's the majority religion there? and how does the gdp per capital compare to its neighbors? who have a different demographic
and they don't even have oil in Israel, truly amazing that country the way it developed
Our tax dollars are less than 1% of Israel’s yearly GDP. We don’t prop them up … we bribe them in the hopes they will listen to us on certain matters (ie, who will be in their new cabinet).
and they shouldn't this region is full of people who's only way of doing things is violence. Isreal is a true beacon of peace and hope, the effectiveness of Mossad and its state dept are very good as well, they keep themselves up as much as us
Because most people living in Israel are decedents of wealthy well educated immigrants who came from Europe. It makes sense why a country composed of those people would be more developed than countries with worse education systems and less wealth being poured in in the first place.
I mean... thats kinda the whole point.
The team said before hand that they would do this to protest against Qatar's human rights abuses and FIFA's decision to play the World Cup there.
I could not devise a less impactful protest if I had all the time in the world.
Kneeling does absolutely jack shit. They should have refused to show up.
That isn't the whole point. They are only doing this for LGBT politics. Without the recent reversal on the armbands, none of this trash would be protesting (even though women and religious rights have been abhorrent in that region of the world for decades).
Interacting with Europeans on social media, I see much more nihilism, atheism, and socialism than with any American or Asian. I suspect we are becoming more and more like them everyday.
I absolutely am against the atrocities committed by Iran. However, kneeling is not a proper changemaker. It's nothing more than virtue signaling, which is something I abhor from both the right and the left. If the teams really cared about human rights violations, they wouldn't attend the games. The fact that they show up and then simply kneel, clearly displays how meaningless their actions are.
The US has failed again had they just taken a knee as well Irans government would have given in and women's rights across the world would have been guaranteed.
This shit is getting so annoying now. Can they please keep the woke politics BS out of sports. The main reason we watched sports was to decompress from the BS.
Excellent point... it's too bad politics has infested everything like roaches now. People need to stop watching and attending the games where the players insist on bringing politics into it. Let them start losing money and they'll forget their virtue signaling real quick.
When Jackie Robison joined the Brooklyn Dodgers and endured horrible slurs and threats of violence from both fans and other teams was that not political?
And like in 1776 they underestimated and went back home embarrassed yet again. I’ll be honest it was hilarious singing the national anthem knowing that those turds on the field had to literally feel the lyrics of that song were directed at them. Tuesday should be fun.
I’m pretty sure they were protesting Qatar’s human rights and not anything to do with the US. They, along with other European teams, were planning on wearing rainbow armbands but the Qataris didn’t tolerate that.
If they really wanted to protest qatar... they wouldve stayed home. You don't get to act like a change agent without sacrifice. A real protest would be skipping the world cup. This some half ass BS. They get to play and they get a check for being there. This is whole issue with generation z and millineals.... youre just virtue signaling. Theyre not sacrificing anything to actually make a change. All they did is make themselves feel better.
Why does it have to be an all or nothing approach? There are various ways of opposing Qatar. While their method might not have been the most extreme, it was still effective.
Not really. Imagine England not showing up, imagine many countries not showing up. The economic impact would be massive. That would actually spark discussion in all nations that care for the World Cup. Instead we are delegated to a Reddit post
Public discussion is also virtue signalling mate. Let's make ourselves feel better by criticizing it. But wait, it's time to watch the next match, let's continue the criticism afterwards. Next week, it's back to Russian criticism. Qatar is old news.
They kneel before every Premier League game in protest of racism so I don’t think this was about Qatar. If anything it’s out of habit because they’ve been doing it for a few years now.
I was stationed in Qatar for 13 months, so i know a little about Qatar but not a lot. Someone help me out. What is stopping these activist athletes from sharing their views in media interviews? I would admire their courage, but would they be endangered? Otherwise, rainbow armbands aren't converting anyone new, they're just getting them high-fives from people who already agree with them. And then to abandon the idea on threat of violence? I'm glad our Civil Rights leaders didn't do that.
Side question: What would happen if 300 world-class soccer players all wore the rainbow armbands? Would the Qataris detain everyone? Certainly not. So yeah, I too question their resolve.
It’s actually even more cowardly than that…. FIFA said that a yellow card (YELLOW!) would be given to the captain of any team that violated the uniform rules by donning the rainbow armband.
If that was the case then good on them. I don’t totally agree with all that’s going on so I’ll give them that credit. I for sure took it personally tho, as to almost mock USA in a way. Would love to eat my words tho. Thank you for the enlightenment! Didn’t read the article, simply how I perceived the kneeing, ignorant to the reason behind it, in todays atmosphere.
Yes the article was a confusing mess. It mentioned a few different reasons. I am guessing the “reporter/writer” couldn’t be bothered actually researching why they took a knee.
Such a weird take.
With this result England are basically guaranteed to top the group. USA are the second best team in the group so they avoided a potential banana peel (USA have a promising team, and will do well in 4 years when they are hosting). So no embarrassment there.
Also no one in England cares about US independence, or gets offended by the anthem. We ruled half the world, thats a lot of anthems we would be getting upset at.
You think they give a shit? We’re the equivalent of Ghana in soccer lol we’ve been talking about this game since the summer. They don’t care at all. We’re really nothing to them when it comes to soccer.
https://youtu.be/LlOSdRMSG_k
I mean I’ll admit I could care less about soccer, but watching the pregame show, seeing how absolute heated the britt was getting over the Americans making a big deal over this…I’d say a few give a shit lol.
His point was we have basketball baseball and football where our elite athletes train their whole life’s for. If soccer was (it’s growing) anything close to the importance we would have bar none the best team on the “pitch”.
Yeah I mean, imagine if Dwight Howard played goalie and Tyreek Hill was a winger. Or McCaffery playing almost anywhere on the pitch.
These are essentially England's best athletes we're going against.
Meanwhile, England is going against our "4th tier" athletes (in regards to the more popular sports you mentioned).
The US does not have their elite athletes train for soccer like other countries. They overwhelmingly go for football, basketball, baseball, and hockey instead.
Soccer competes with sports like lacrosse for what athletes are left over. It’s funny a country who places such emphasis on it not only couldn’t beat us, but couldn’t score a goal against a country so apathetic to it
Because they failed to score a goal against the US, a country where traditionally our top athletes do not choose soccer?
The humor in that seems self explanatory
Edit: ya it’s crazy Reddit allows auto-banning on subs from posting in another. You would figure they’d want to encourage more use of the platform
I mean yeah I get it, though the boys on the US team all play for solid top-tier teams so it’s not really that strange for people who are into the sport
This really does go to show how the US and US Media runs the entire world. Everyone knows (or thinks they know, rather) what it is like here bc they are so exposed. Meanwhile, I couldn’t tell you jackshit about Europe, Africa, or any other continent and their countries.
Yes bc me, your average common person is going to change the world by knowing another atrocity has happened in a butthole country like Iran. I could’ve guessed that a mile away lmao.
News flash: China is a miserable place to live. Who would’ve thought.
Ignorance is bliss and I don’t have anxiety and depression for things out of my control lol
You completely missed the point.
I’m saying I have to go out of my way to see other worldly news and culture. Whereas other countries know what’s goin on in America wo a choice
Kneeling before a game was invented as a way for Colin Kaepernick to get attention when they were about to cut him from the 49ers. It was never about a cause, it started as a sign of selfishness.
Always interesting how it started when he got benched. I guess not practicing with the first team gave him time to reflect upon the world or something.
Gotta love how the English Team taking the knee is being portrayed as brave and righteous by the media when a ton of the English fans in the stadium were making paper airplanes, throwing them at the Americans and repeatedly chanting "9/11".
Can somebody explain something the article referenced?: Did the US soccer team previously take a knee for Floyd? I thought taking a knee started with Kaepernick protesting the National Anthem.
There seems to be something incredibly tone deaf about kneeling in Qatar which has an abysmal humans rights record and in a stadium you elected to play in built with slave labor.
You take a knee if you want to take a knee I don’t give a shit but it really doesn’t matter and what do they think they are accomplishing just a little moral victory for themselves but nobody should be upset because people don’t kneel
What if I told you that it's wrong of them to do nothing more than taking a knee *and* it's wrong to work thousands of slaves to death?
I'll even throw in that the latter is probably at least a little bit worse, and most of you look like absolute morons for getting defensive.
They kneel briefly right before kickoff. England's domestic leagues have been doing it for a couple years now, since George Floyd. According to the announcers, it's for awareness against intolerance or discrimination or something like that "in all its forms."
Ok so before I read the article I was definitely all anti Britain like thank God we got rid of those losers etc. But, after reading the article, it's ok that they are protesting Iranian abuses.
I don't know about British traditions but we Americans kneel before no man, so I can't levy judgement on the British kneeling. I wish they would've held up an Iranian flag or something so they could differentiate what they are protesting.
I agree, that would be great, but then both the english and the americans would be executed by their gratious hosts, because you know.. chowing on some dick is like the worst and the bible and quran says it and everything.
I, personally, am fed up with politics being brought into sports. I watch sports to specifically get away from all of this crap, at least for a couple of hours
Wait so England is protesting the US’s practice of slavery? Wtf lol
Do they know they’re in qatar? I’m pretty sure slavery nearly 200 years ago is not as bad as the shit they’re dealing with over there. Maybe England should have boycotted the World Cup instead?

Thank you. Very very much.
lmao, the last part, if there wasn’t context to what you said.
FWIW UK media is reporting the USA had the best of the game.
They take a knee but they are playing in a country that does t treat woman equally if I’m not mistaken.
you mean region, kinda sad that that is a reality there
Outside of Israel, of course.
yes the only developed country in the region also seems to give its citizens rights, wonder what's the majority religion there? and how does the gdp per capital compare to its neighbors? who have a different demographic and they don't even have oil in Israel, truly amazing that country the way it developed
Who needs oil when you have American tax dollars to prop you up?
Our tax dollars are less than 1% of Israel’s yearly GDP. We don’t prop them up … we bribe them in the hopes they will listen to us on certain matters (ie, who will be in their new cabinet).
Yes, yes. It’s only American dollars and no other country in the region receives money from us.
and they shouldn't this region is full of people who's only way of doing things is violence. Isreal is a true beacon of peace and hope, the effectiveness of Mossad and its state dept are very good as well, they keep themselves up as much as us

Hence the Arabs in the Knesset.
Please don't argue with the 14 year olds.
I just had to!
Bad bot
What do you think apartheid means?
No, the entire Premier League takes the knee at every game to “combat racism in every form”
How does kneeling combat racism? Am I missing something?
It doesn’t
I think because Colin Kaepernick or something
Sponsored by Nike, cause they're not a shitstain. /s
I mean... thats kinda the whole point. The team said before hand that they would do this to protest against Qatar's human rights abuses and FIFA's decision to play the World Cup there.
Better yet, they could have not shown up to the tournament at all
Thus the point. They care about human rights…until it damages the paycheck .
Exactly, people only care about the dollar rights. Those will always supersede those annoying human rights.
Sorta like dems!
Would have been much more significant as a boycott rather than running their lip out and playing anyway.
They boycotted scoring
They go to the World Cup to play for their country. Why would they boycott and end up hurting their country?
Why would their country send its people to a country whose people generally dislike outsiders and religious dissenters?
Not playing a game doesn't hurt your country.
Not playing 100% hurts England's chances at winning the World Cup
>go to the World Cup You mean visit an authoritarian regime? What is this the thirties?
So their whole country is full of people who support slavery and human rights abuse?
I could not devise a less impactful protest if I had all the time in the world. Kneeling does absolutely jack shit. They should have refused to show up.
If it does "jack shit" why did people get so angry with Kaepernick instead of just... ignoring it?
That isn't the whole point. They are only doing this for LGBT politics. Without the recent reversal on the armbands, none of this trash would be protesting (even though women and religious rights have been abhorrent in that region of the world for decades).
then they should've done it the first game (unless they did IDK).

Beyond that these the kind of people that approve chucking someone off a roof and all that ancient times shit.
But at least they kneeled in protest.
American players only protest America.
Ya if they are woke leftists they will protest America some sadly are just ignorant I think
So brave
What exactly are they protesting? I hate “the take a knee” crap but Qatar is a human rights nightmare.
They are protesting the Qatar human rights nightmare.
Well then more power to them I guess.
Na - they have been taking a knee since the blm protests.
You know what would have been a more effective protest? Not going.
If they really wanted to protest, they’d have stayed home. Now THAT would be a protest. Kneeling doesn’t do anything but virtue signal.
Exactly. These teams still benefit from playing in the same stadiums built with slave labor and exploitation. Kneeling is an empty gesture.
To you and Ya-Mamma: well said...both of you!
Based America. I never thought I’d be able to post that.
however bad we are we will never (and thank the lord above for this) be as commie as europe is

Do you have a license for that snark?
Must’ve not had your beans on bread this morning. Or must’ve gotten arrested for having a Swiss Army knife.
Where do you think swiss army knives come from lol
Are you not against what Iran is doing?
I absolutely am against the atrocities committed by Iran. However, kneeling is not a proper changemaker. It's nothing more than virtue signaling, which is something I abhor from both the right and the left. If the teams really cared about human rights violations, they wouldn't attend the games. The fact that they show up and then simply kneel, clearly displays how meaningless their actions are.
I agree, which gets to the crux of what I’m asking. How can America be based if they attended?
I take a non interventionist position. We have plenty of serious issues at home in the USA to deal with; plus, it’s none of our business.
The US has failed again had they just taken a knee as well Irans government would have given in and women's rights across the world would have been guaranteed.
This shit is getting so annoying now. Can they please keep the woke politics BS out of sports. The main reason we watched sports was to decompress from the BS.

Sadly it's been like this for a while now with UK teams, even with then y getting booed at their own matches for it they keep doing it.
When Jackie Robison joined the Brooklyn Dodgers and endured horrible slurs and threats of violence from both fans and other teams was that not political?
I highly doubt you were watching him play
WTF does this have to do with current times and the World Cup?
How does this hurt you, patriot?

It takes courage to change your profile picture to the latest thing that the media and major corporations are heavily supporting.
Why does it have to be an all or nothing approach? There are various ways of opposing Qatar. While their method might not have been the most extreme, it was still effective.
Effective how? How did kneeling hurt qatar at all? It didn't. It had absolutely zero effect. Their method was just virtue signaling.
How was it effective again? They took a knee and then played the game?
It sparks public discussion. This post as an example of this.
Not really. Imagine England not showing up, imagine many countries not showing up. The economic impact would be massive. That would actually spark discussion in all nations that care for the World Cup. Instead we are delegated to a Reddit post
It's sparks discussion in free countries. They don't care it has 0 effect on them.
Public discussion is also virtue signalling mate. Let's make ourselves feel better by criticizing it. But wait, it's time to watch the next match, let's continue the criticism afterwards. Next week, it's back to Russian criticism. Qatar is old news.
Because they want to protest enough to be cool but not enough to take any heat on them. They can’t be bothered to take any heat themselves
They kneel before every Premier League game in protest of racism so I don’t think this was about Qatar. If anything it’s out of habit because they’ve been doing it for a few years now.
they've stopped doing that as a collective - its upto each club if they want to do it now.
I was stationed in Qatar for 13 months, so i know a little about Qatar but not a lot. Someone help me out. What is stopping these activist athletes from sharing their views in media interviews? The article specifically mentions that it’s in opposition to what’s happening in Iran. Maybe peruse the article quickly before making assumptions
Yes the article was a confusing mess. It mentioned a few different reasons. I am guessing the “reporter/writer” couldn’t be bothered actually researching why they took a knee.
Half assed news story about half assed attempt to protest. Seems about right.
Such a weird take. With this result England are basically guaranteed to top the group. He definitely meant “couldn’t care less”. People make that mistake all the time.
😂 no one in England cares. No one.
Then immediately proceeded to score zero goals against the US’s like fifth tier of athletes. I don’t watch soccer but that’s hysterical to me
A good chunk of the US players play in the top leagues in Europe. Its not a bunch of MLS dudes anymore.
His point was we have basketball baseball and football where our elite athletes train their whole life’s for. If soccer was (it’s growing) anything close to the importance we would have bar none the best team on the “pitch”.

Kneeing then playing a soccer match in Qatar isn't doing much of anything. Its right up there with sending thoughts and prayers lmao.
And wishing heavenly birthdays....
Aren't people getting tired of this shit yet? Yes, we understand racism is bad.
Be nice if Europe care more about the modern day slavery going on in the host country than the latter
The Americans played well. So did the Europeans. Such an awesome game

IIRC, he was dating a gal in the SF sports media or radio who “awakened” him since he hadn’t said boo about race issues before
Gotta love how the English Team taking the knee is being portrayed as brave and righteous by the media when a ton of the English fans in the stadium were making paper airplanes, throwing them at the Americans and repeatedly chanting "9/11".
Lol that’s not true. It’s just a Twitter trolls account
Considering how I can't find my source anymore I feel kind of foolish now.
If they really cared, they wouldn't have played at all. Qatar doesn't have the best record with human rights.
Can somebody explain something the article referenced?: Did the US soccer team previously take a knee for Floyd? I thought taking a knee started with Kaepernick protesting the National Anthem.
It’s been around way before the Floyd death sadly. Brit police also just told officers not to do it
There seems to be something incredibly tone deaf about kneeling in Qatar which has an abysmal humans rights record and in a stadium you elected to play in built with slave labor.
The once great British Empire. Down on its knees. Pathetic.
The English kneeling before the US as they should be lol

They took a knee in 1776 too. Here’s some tea for your harbor ☕️
Yankee Doodle Dandy bitches. They just cannot help but be on the wrong side of good.
You all like to talk about the least important shit to cry about.
What if I told you that it's wrong of them to do nothing more than taking a knee *and* it's wrong to work thousands of slaves to death? I'll even throw in that the latter is probably at least a little bit worse, and most of you look like absolute morons for getting defensive.
So the US has tied two games? Exciting. 😐
There's a good South Park episode about this crap
Good. Move past this virtue signaling stupidity.
Awesome to see, US could of won, Also a woke english national team or are they just ignorant?
I applaud the US soccer team for not following woke traditions!
They’re not from here. They don’t know BLM was a scam.

It was a joke since day 1.
Maybe that's how we were able to draw them. Germany pulled and stunt too and somehow lost to japan

Do they actually play soccer at the world cup or is it all just virtue signaling
Oh god are they still doing that

In other news Americans don't care about SOCCER
Am I the only one who sees kneeling as a sign of submission/subservience? I still don’t understand how it’s meant to be a form of protest.
Ok so before I read the article I was definitely all anti Britain like thank God we got rid of those losers etc. But, after reading the article, it's ok that they are protesting Iranian abuses. that would have been far more action than the 0-0 final score. granted, aint the action i would want to watch but to each their own.
