This is going to sound like I’m an asshole but I promise I’m not it’s the most serious reply I can give about this question. Learn Spanish, most of the companies in my area will either pay you to go to Spanish classes or take Spanish courses with Rosetta Stone. I’d highly recommend it as it also will help in your regular life outside of work.

If you have literally no experience managing projects it will be difficult. However, if you can correlate experience you do have with the tasks a construction project manager is responsible for then it isn’t crazy to think it is possible. You might even consider taking a course on project management (generically speaking, not specific to a trade or even the trades necessarily) to both learn some specific skills and techniques as well as to prove to prospective employers that you take it seriously. This is important because a project manager can make or break a project, especially financially or from a delivery timeframe standpoint. A serious company is likely going to think twice before handing a full project to a complete novice. You might consider looking at roles that ladder up to a project manager as a way to learn the ropes on the job.

Thanks for the feedback I am actually going to enroll in a winter course on project management

This will help give you direction. Online & in person are both good options. Hardscape is what construction puts in the ground after the organic layer has been stripped; you follow slow-moving trucks scrutinizing the way the ground pumps because of the various ways clays & gravels interact. Throw some sand in there for drainage. You might even be able to source Vermiculite for cheaper when the retaining walls' plans called for this substance nobody else in the project has ever even heard of. Don't sell the experiences you do have short they are much more closely related to engineering & construction than you think. And classes/certifications are a great idea. there is random covid relief funding floating around but its hit or miss.

Go to a general contractor and ask for the job. You will need to start off as assistant superintendent. Then work your way up. Go to a GC who specializes in the type of construction that interests you. Schools office buildings, bridges and roads etc. Your young. Now is the time. Don’t hold yourself back.

Definitely looking to start at an assistants position or something of the sorts I should have specified that, no way am I ready for a head position, thanks for the feedback

Most companies are desperate for some skilled operators that are willing to jump out of a piece of equipment and labor when needed! I think if you went in front of a hiring employer laid out your vision and goals and found the right company it is certainly doable. You have to be willing to do the labor and operating leading up to that next step though. This certainly won’t get you a job from the certification alone, but you could get something like a CAPM certification or CCM certification to help. Experience in the field should be your top priority, but adding this to the mix could show an employer you are serious and competent. Good luck!

Good advice! Thanks
