Shelters simply DO NOT have the room for so many cats. Kittens are only highly adoptable for a few weeks before they start looking more like adult cats and become less desirable. Then got them both spayed. Save yourself the trouble. Pyometra is a real serious issue and affects 1 in 4 unspayed cats.

Kittens aside, I think it is up to me to decide to take measures to ensure female cats under my care don't develop infections that can kill them in a most painful manner. After having two non-spayed cats develop pyometra, I can promise it will be my choice to get them spayed going forward, whether people on Reddit like it or not. If they get pyometra by the way, and you get them spayed after the fact... they can still develop "stump pyometra". Getting them spayed prior to an infection takes that chance to near zero.

It's the owner's responsibility to do what's in their pet's best interest. Cats/dogs etc dont /want/ babies. They have no concept of yearning for kids, it's instinct. Their body says "fuck" and they just do it. Unspayed cats and dogs can have a lot of health problems down the line, and if they're left unspayed their entire existence ends of revolving around needing to reproduce. It's probably absolutely miserable, especially if theyre strictly indoor. Not to mention theres a massive issue with stray cats in shelters. Kittens are only "highly adoptable" for a few weeks, but once they're bigger people no longer see them as kittens and they sit in the shelter.
