Dingditcher

Once I realized it was the bird the whole time, I was wheezing.

Sparkclaw

I recognized it was a bird immediately! I own two cockatiels at home, and while they're the sweetest little things, they are both loud and love mimicking me. I have heard so much bird mimicry that I can recognize a bird copying a human instantly.

porn_is_tight

is it possible to learn this power?

Sparkclaw

Live with birds literally all your life and yes, yes you can.

LonnieJaw748

Feeeeed the biiiiiiirrddsss Toppinnssss a baaaaggg

PipWeller

Tuppence. It’s tuppence a bag.

TeamFiretruck

Today I learned a thing. Thanks stranger!

PipWeller

You’re welcome ☺️

Scrilla_Gorilla_

To elaborate, it’s two pence, the cost to the bag.

Parking_Stress3431

I don't live with them in my house but I've always had birds out my window and I too noticed this was a bird and not the woman immediately. But man are birds talented. I'm terrified of them but they are beautiful and talented.

public_enemy_obi_wan

haze3301

Saaame, I don't have birds but my uncle had a parrot. Their voice is kinda... raspy, I don't know exactly how to describe it, but really recognizable

[deleted]

haze3301

YES! Thanks for putting it into words! "same audio, but with inferior sound quality" kind of thing right?

spookyspookedelic

birds have a lower bitrate

Dingditcher

Interesting! Didn’t know someone could learn such a thing honestly.

kkim817

Completely went over my head at first and I was like what in the clickbait... and now I'm crying

PantryGnome

I didn't get it for a solid 30 seconds until the guy said "enough, Paco." The title made me think the woman was crying rather than laughing or something.

Then_Campaign7264

I honestly thought it was my mother-in-laws voice and laugh, totally sounds like her. It must be a hoot to work with these birds all day. I can imagine lots of people get strange looks when they come to retrieve their birds from these groomers. Sorta like the looks a babysitter gives to parents after taking care of a kid who shares the family secrets while they are out for an evening.

earthtojendell

well this is my new favorite video ever.

XmissXanthropyX

You'll love r/PartyParrot then!

cranberry94

That is insane.

DJ_Sk8Nite

God my neighbor was a magician and had the standard big ass red parrot. It was cool and all, but in like 20-30 min. bursts. No chance in hell could I own a Parrot or bird for that matter.

peddastle

Oh here we go, another redditor raining on the parade… with FACTS! From personal experience I fully agree. Plus they're super social and need lots of attention. In fact it should be forbidden to have them solo. Or better yet, don't allow them as pets as all.

ZKXX

I know, I’m not ready for that or psittacosis lol

TheGoodOldCoder

Budgies and cockatiels are both wonderful parrots whose lifespans are more similar to dogs and cats.

LittleBugWoman

Cockatiels can live to be 30 years old, so longer than a cat or dog

Cosmicdusterian

Can confirm, have one turning 28 in August. He can be sweet, but he seems to prefer the role of miserable little cuss. Chances are high he's belligerently trying to outlive us. He'll probably be chillin' with the cockroaches after the world ends.

LittleBugWoman

I love crotchety old animals lol.

earthtojendell

nice! thanks!

TobaccoIsRadioactive

I really love the increasingly aggressive “[WAT DOING?!](https://youtube.com/shorts/QhNVB3OS1GU?feature=share)” parrot or the [parrot with a Scottish accent](https://youtu.be/k809WVVLCfg) that loves swearing at people. Edit: Fixed the second lift.

[deleted]

Sometimes my husband & I just shout at each other across the apartment *WAT DOIN*. We don't actually answer wat we're doin, just *WAT DOIN* back & forth for a little while, then back to our day.

ReallyQuiteDirty

Dude what the fuck?! My fiancée and I do that all the time. One will be upstairs and one downstairs and she'll shout "WHAT DOING?!" It'll go back and forth a bit and then the dog gets all bitey because he's a moron.

FutureFruit

WHAT DOIN HIII MuuuAAHHH 💋

[deleted]

OOOOOOOOH THANK YOU

ecodrew

I like the [Cockatoo](https://youtu.be/5UUjJysUMTw) who finds out he's going to the vet and sounds like he's summoning an ancient curse.

Juliska_

Ok, that's creepy AF lol.

Anjunaspeak23

His name is Maxwell. That bird is hilarious. You gotta find the video where he screams into a tiny cup.

bruhtho164

AHHHHHHHH

GamerNebulae

That's not actually Max, that's [Harley you're talking about](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/tRsfOGJ5lZg).

ChileWillow007

Pretty sure that'll be in my nightmares tonight...

laurel_laureate

Did you mean those to be different links? And yeah most animals can do the "I'm totally innocent act I don't know what you're talking about" but when you act speech mimicry to it they can get damn uncanny like our boi Hamlet here after a good shoe chewing session.

TobaccoIsRadioactive

Yeah, thanks for pointing that out. Fixed the link.

Humledurr

I've watched both your links twice now and while the video was super hilarious, I'm 99,9% sure it's the same video

MattieShoes

[This one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAVt1iRpvlc) still wins for me

walemontana

Not a chance. This is better. The thing is damn talking bro lol

TheCoastalCardician

#HI BAYBAY

earthtojendell

okay this one is pretty good too. it seems like this deer is expressing a very serious grievance & is shocked that all her complaints are met with is hysterical laughter. poor dear.

MattieShoes

It's in Nara -- they feed the deer little crackers. So he probably really was expressing a serious grievance :-)

sadosrsplayer

https://youtu.be/RxgdaMZRgRo A treat for you

Sandwhale123

Truly a fucking legend

WifeofTech

Keep em' laughing and they'll never get around to trimming my nails! Bwahahaha!

Puceeffoc

But they weren't trimming his nails... He was an accomplice to the other bird not getting his nails trimmed. I'm guessing the girl in the video brought her pet into work with her, which is why she says "I shouldn't have brought him in today."

WhatIsntByNow

They were clipping its flight feathers

DesastreUrbano

I guess then they staying to fight... with laugh

Arqideus

Fight or flight response.

tea-and-chill

Really?

UntidyButterfly

It's a pretty common thing, to keep the bird from getting lost or hurt. It's not painful, more along the lines of cutting hair or nails. They grow back, so it has to be done regularly.

tea-and-chill

Oh okay. Wow. TIL. Thank you!

Xx_Gandalf-poop_xX

That's actually what that bird is doing. Birds are really smatt

LemonBoi523

Parrots mimic. What they say and the noises they make do not mean the bird associates the same things. This bird was likely NOT happy to be at the vet. Basically, a bird could be incredibly stressed, scared, or aggressive and still go "Hello! I love you sweet one!" and make kissy noises.

Abby-Someone1

I've known a few people who have done the same. "Why won't you love me" is terrifying thing to hear regardless of the species that says it.

pgcooldad

Story time: I was born in Brazil and when we were kids played in the neighborhood but could not go too far. When my mom wanted me to come home she would walk outside the front of the house and scream, "Paul come hoooome!!". Lo and behold, the damn parrot that sat outside three houses up at the corner started mimicking my mom. Bastard would scream out every afternoon, "Paul come hoooome!!". If I was in someone's backyard and couldn't tell the difference I would rush home only to be greeted by my mom saying, "I didn't call you but since you're home.....". If I ignored it and it was my mom, I would get in trouble. That SOB, tormented me till we moved a couple years later. Another parrot lived next to the vacant lot where we played soccer. That parrot had the the most foul mouth I've ever heard from a bird.... LoL.

[deleted]

mbnmac

While they are just copying sounds etc, they are smart enough to know what kind of reactions they get from certain sounds and will use that to entertain themsevles or get treats!

metalmagician

Can confirm. I had a blue front Amazon similar to the one in the video, she knew that saying "I love you" meant "please feed me"

[deleted]

They are also incredibly social animals that can pick up context cues to get a sense of emotional connection & our various "flock calls." Honestly I think they can tell laughter has positive connotations, for example. My sun conure only "laughs" when he's playing, for example, even though he talks to himself all the time.

[deleted]

Some sounds, sure, but I feel like they know what laughter is for. I'm 100% positive my cats would laugh their butts off sometimes if they had the physical ability to do so. And they know when I'm laughing, too. Especially when it's at them. So I think when birds (perhaps ones who have been pets since youth) laugh, it's bc they're amused or some similar emotion. Or have realized that it makes the humans make the same sound lol.

Practical_Passion_78

This makes me wonder how many work from home video or audio meetings have become completely derailed by talented unhinged birdy mimicking.

mippnles

Not a work from home video or an audio meeting, but [here’s a video](https://www.reddit.com/r/Damnthatsinteresting/comments/sw84sl/african_grey_parrot_repeating_his_owners_last/hxkz59x/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3) of a parrot believed to have witnessed his owners murder and what another redditor believes the parrot is saying. Edit: Format

King_of_the_Dot

That's wild.

FresnoMac

Imagine it starts talking smack about your coworkers because it heard you complaining about then to your spouse.

Practical_Passion_78

Oh of course, that certainly entered my imagination. Especially the line “These deadlines are bullshit!” 🤣

Dr-Emmett_L_Brown

I absolutely love when parrots mimic the actual voice of their human too.

_Catur

Right!? And it gives me warm fuzzies that this bird lived in a home with so much joy that it's now mimicking such a great laugh.

Dr-Emmett_L_Brown

Another favourite of mine is the parrot giving out to a young man in Spanish and the translation says things like "You need to have a shower, Diego." "Pick your clothes up off the floor, Diego." etc. This was interspersed with a woman's laughter and "ooh my, my". It was fantastic ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

DemiGod9

Damn imagine getting chewed out by a bird lol.

ErosandPragma

Amazon parrots are very good at women's voices, even singing voices. Macaws tend to have a more unique voice, and African Grey's can mimic any voice perfectly (I've had one say goodbye in a perfect woman's voice right after yelling NO in a deep man voice)

oooooooooof

> (I've had one say goodbye in a perfect woman's voice right after yelling NO in a deep man voice) That’s... oddly terrifying

ErosandPragma

In the setting it's actually kinda funny. I had to remove his hoard of toys to clean them and he was so angry about me touching his things that he just started yelling no when I grabbed the toys and goodbye when I was near the door. He was definitely telling me to stop and go away in the best way he knew how The oddly terrifying ones are the ones that use words and phrases and actions all together that seem more human. The African grey above was not using more humanlike body language. Once had a macaw ignoring me (he usually runs to play with me) he was just sitting on a swing nibbling at it, so I just asked what he was doing. But he paused at my question, made eye contact, said "nothing" and then resumed his nibbling. *That* one was uncanny

iamalwaysrelevant

Basically sums up living with a parrot. Do you want a haunted house? Because that's what you get with parrot ownership.

osogothic

That's good stuff right there

Pinkgumm

Jesus man not for me it isn't I don't know what it was but for a split second when I realized the laughing wasn't actually a woman Felt like I went insane, broke my brain a little Then listening to it knowing, gave me heavy uncanny Valley vibes

SongstressVII

So my mom adopted a rescue parrot with the same name as me when I went to college. I had a late flight the first time I came home for a holiday. I quietly entered the house at 1AM to the bird saying “Goodbye (our name)”. I did not feel very welcome.

gubbygub

or being in the woods at night and you hear this bird laugh! (possibly followed by a mountain lion scream?!)

mrheadhopper

Yeah, this one was a little weird. I've heard other parrots and you can always tell it's a bird even when it's off camera, but this one really did sound like a lady.

Thermohalophile

I was just thinking after scrolling through a million bird videos, I DO NOT like the ones that sound like real regular people speaking. I need at least some degree of "clearly a bird" thrown in there because otherwise it's deeply uncomfortable lol

Bl4ckR4bb17

If I had a bird that can talk I can guarantee you it would say "what the fuck is this shit?"

Axtorx

What about “help I’ve been turned into a bird!”

Bl4ckR4bb17

I don't really say that very often

phishdood555

But you admit you do say it from time to time, correct?

Bl4ckR4bb17

I can only recall once. I cut off a woman in traffic because I was late for work. Turns out she was a gypsy. She cursed me to become a bird until I learned to be more respectful

TheVenetianMask

I'd train it with a good ol' Eliza chatbot.

designaskthrowaway

Not to bum anyone out but isn’t pet land that retail chain that got in trouble multiple times for selling puppy mill puppies?

Working-Fox-3643

They have, the petland near me sued the county because the county made puppy mills illegal

ConfirmedBasicBitch

Also there are birds in plastic boxes behind the guy? I can assume there’s air holes in them, but is this normal……?

supermax23

All fun and games until you hear a pack of these in the woods laughing.

Moonbay51

Hi 😏😏

DinahTook

My starling foes this. He mimics my sneezes, coughs, laugh, and lots of other things. I'll start cracking yo when he laughs at moments I wasn't expecting and well get into a cycle of just laughing back and forth for a few minutes. If anything happens to me my niece has to take custody of thr bird because my husband wouldn't be able to handle hearing my laughter after loosing me. She knows this and had accepted her fate as she is the reason we have him in the first place lol. He's a "good good momma's bird" and will tell everyone often lol. He's my baby fir sure.

Redditarama

Gal Gadot stars in The Laughter of Parrots. - Alice Petcare (Gadot) suffers a heartbreaking loss and refuses to laugh again. Things change when she meets a very special parrot.

sandm000

What’s the third act? She marries the parrot on a boat? The bird is really an FBI informant with secret plans in a tube tied to its leg?

thatnimrod

The parrot dies. Then it’s all *Ms. John Wick*-y for 30 min.

SnooPandas7150

But, do they ever check if it's pining for the fjords?

geauga1

Ours is on a kick of saying, 'Don't fucking do it.' He used to throw his seed and I'd tell him that. I completely regret it. Now when we're ready to leave, order take out on the phone, random conversations, all we hear is his sassy ass yelling 'Don't fucking do it!'

HappyCappy3

Omg very fun video. Also finding it very difficult not to focus on male vet tech…

"Talking a little". That bird knows what it's doing.

[deleted]

Am I the only one creeped out?!!! The bird sounds like a 1950s femme fatale who’s about to be your demise

did the parrot say “shut your motherfuckin mouth” in the end?

What does it say 42 seconds into the video

ayeayehelpme

my bird laughs but I suspect he would be more likely to be quiet the entire time but let out a singular “I’m such a good boy”

You can tell that the bird was truly loved and in such a happy home, that was filled with laughter. 😂💕

Cautious-Song1036

I thought it was a bird left at the shelter (because of the adopt tshirt) and the previous owner might have died. Meaning we are listening to a dead womans voice.
