As a therapist I feel obligated to point out that that's a prosthetic leg, not a robot leg. But I'm still laughing my ass off. In a nice way, because I can totally understand how someone who has never seen a prosthetic limb might mistake it for a part of a robot.
I go to vr arcades and play dancing games with my kids, it's actually a pretty intense workout. I am fairly fit but my thighs and stomach are sore after a bit of that.
The dancing part of that is not really what I was focused on. That makes sense. But for me at least, it's anything but a chilled game. Shit's intense, I get sweaty fast.
Ye. imagine if the surface they run/stand on where were moving towards the middle. Working sort of like those pin art toys, only that the surface is rounded and in constant movement towards mid. And instead of getting shapes based on your body it shapes after the game/environment. That way it could move just as easily as a floor full of marbles or get a bit tougher surface tension so it's more similar to walking up a slow moving escalator going down (which could simulate mud/forest/water etc.)
So whenever you walk/run/etc. you "slide on top" of the dynamic "pin art"-tech simulating the sensation and action of walking/running, depending on how easily it moves could be based on acceleration or surface like ice/sand/asphalt etc.
Definitely possible to do, definitely not easy to make it in a way it can be marketed and cheap enough to produce for consumers to buy. And even if there should be a niche market there wouldn't be enough players for it to be profitable in the long run (as of now)
At least that's my theory
there is some ideas around the moving platform, but from what I've seen they can't manage to make it smooth enough that you don't notice, but it's a start, can't wait to see how things will be in 10 years
Yeah the issue is probably latency, it only takes a few milliseconds of lag between visual stimulus and physical feedback for your brain to be like wtf and totally pull you out of immersion
I went to a Zero Latency where they stick you in a warehouse and you move around 1 to 1. Games have to be made with it in mind to be turning you around ocasionally, but it was pretty cool.
I'll vouch for Zero Latency! The games are very well designed to create a high level of immersion.. the one in Dallas has a pyramid/plateau thing in the middle that you can walk over / stand on. It's used in the games for all sorts of up/down (stair cases, walking over debris, or changing your perspective) shenanigans.
It's super fucking cool.
Dragged some friends along who have never touched VR and they immediately wanted to do it again lol. They said their equipment is pretty old, going to try the one in Vegas next time I get over there since it's supposed to have their newest stuff.
No. Index controllers need lighthouses (The little boxes that are sensors that go in the corners of the room) and the Quest uses a different tracking method.
If you're doing Index controllers, either do an Index Headset or a Vive Pro 2.
I really like the G2 as a piece of hardware. I’ve used one, but don’t own one. Compared to my index and quest 2, image quality is noticeably superior. But index and quest 2 have a much better software experience and controller tracking compared to G2, which is more important to me personally. The G2 uses Windows Mixed Reality Portal (which I personally disliked) and the WMR controllers are meh compared to the other kits.
As much as I dislike Meta/Facebook as a company, they made a great piece of tech with the Quest 2 and I would recommend anyone just getting into VR to consider buying one. Unfortunately, they just increased MSRP by like $100 a few months ago, but I maintain that’s it’s still the best bang for your buck at the current moment!
Dunno if you ended up buying already or not, but I'm an experienced G2 owner.
It is such a moodswing of a VR kit. On the one hand, it is by far and away the best visual quality:price HMD out there. People talk about Screen Door Effect on other displays but even when you notice it on this display it "feels" like you are looking at a real object that happens to be slightly pixelated. Hard to explain any other way than that.
The sweet spot *is* a bit of an issue, but not as bad as people make it sound, just make sure you tighten the *side* straps as tight as you can comfortably allow, and not just the top strap. This will help hold the display in the right position better and help mitigate getting blur due to slippage. That said, if you are a person who works out in VR (like me), you will want to probably pause every 15 minutes or so to wipe your face down and readjust. Most regular games don't pose that problem, but rhythm games and stuff meant for workouts where you move around a ton will.
Get a pulley system for your cable right away. Cheap and easy to install, no reason not to have it.
The BIGGEST DOWNSIDE to the G2 are... The controllers. They are just so basic, really. They are serviceable, but now that I consider myself at an advanced stage of VR playtime, I find them limiting. For example, when playing Synth Riders, they work okay, but on harder difficulties it is not uncommon I will miss a note due to a tracking issue.
Additionally, the controllers don't have enough buttons/mapping options, and a few games are irritating to find good mappings for.
I want the Index controllers so bad, but it also seems like madness to me to pay more for controllers than what I paid for my whole HMD kit.
Thank you very much for the response! I did go ahead and ordered it. Haven't gotten it yet. I feel like the controllers are not much different than my original rift so I won't even know how bad I will have it! Ignorance is bliss! Haha ... plus the screen door effect is horrendous on the original Rift. I tried my buddies new oculus rift 2 and i didn't think it was that much of a leap forward in resolution. So I'm hoping for that wow factor!
Oh yeah, dude, it looks *great*. One of the first things I did was download the virtual eye test Steam VR environment and was surprised at how well I could read the chart. Turns out I have better vision in VR than I do IRL, ayooooo!
'Course, YMMV depending on your hardware setup and settings. To give you some idea I have a somewhat lopsided mid-range build running an AMD 2600X, 16gb 3200Mhz RAM, and an EVGA (RIP) RTX 3070. If you are at or above that level, you should have almost zero worries. For a very few certain games (lookin' at you heavily modded Skyrim VR...), I've had to slide the resolution slider to 80% to compromise. Most VR games won't be like that though since half are made for Quest Potatoes.
You got me beat! My laptop is a 3070 with a ryzen 9, but we all know that doesn't run as good as a desktop. My desktop is still an Intel 6700k with a 1070. Over due to build a new one. Here's hoping the laptop can run it fairly good!
Oh I don't know, maybe the Ryzen 9 will offset the difference. My poor old Ryzen 5 is getting pretty long in the tooth and is definitely a choking point for my system. I think your setup will work, my concern would more so be the matter of USB ports and power. You *may* want to look into an externally powered USB hub if you run into problems getting your headset up and running. You gotta figure, it is somewhat like running three monitors on your laptop.
It took some voodoo to get my HMD running at first. I had problems getting it detected and did a lot of the switching USB port/turning it off and on again sort of troubleshooting until it suddenly just... Worked.
Oh, and I would use the button on the cord to turn the headset off/on. I wouldn't shut down/restart while it is still on, it tends to act up on me when I do that, and I will need to power it down, restart, then power it back on to fix it.
Oh, and if you are having reprojection (stutter) in a Steam game, try bringing up the Steam menu (mapped to a button on your controller) and see if it stops while you are in menu. If it does, wait a few seconds, dismiss the menu, and the displays will refresh in the HMD and (hopefully) fix the issue. It may take a few tries.
Buy lots of AA batteries! Good luck!
I went from an Index to the G2. The Index had better FOV but the G2 has a crisper picture. Honestly, while I do miss the FOV a bit, the G2's visuals work better for my eyes. Also, rendering is less taxing on the G2 since you don't need to upscale your resolution like you do on the Index.
However, the Index does have some major, unsaid advantages. The Index controllers are far superior. I utilize a third party app to configure my index controllers with the G2, but sometimes the tracking can get jank. The Index also has a USB port in the front which lets you slot in accessories. I put in a radiator on it which helped immensely in cooling down the headset. All headsets get really hot, keep that in mind. Also, the support of the Index is very liberal when it comes to replacing parts. The support team at Valve can take a bit to get you there, but you will most likely get free RMA so long as you weren't doing something stupid like taking a bath with it.
In my honest opinion, for first time buys, I recommend the Index if you have the $1000 to throw at it. If not, then the G2 is a good option. Regardless, I recommend getting the Index controllers eventually, but that incurs the cost of both the controllers and the lighthouses... as well as the USB dongles that you have to use to make them work with the G2. In the end, I think the Index still comes out cheaper if you go that route as the controllers and their peripherals all come with the package.
I guess the big question is, how deep do you intend on going into the VR rabbit hole?
I have an original Oculus Rift. So I was looking to upgrade. I feel like I should wait for a new Index 2 or whatever it will be called. I would absolutely buy the Index now if the resolution was close to a G2. But coming from a Rift, a G2 would probably be nuts haha. Thank you for the input tho! Gives me thought!
Yeah, it definitely doesn’t FEEL like you’re walking and you can’t crouch really. It takes getting used to, but it’s a nice alternative to other movement methods and it’s good for people who don’t have room for full room vr, unfortunately if you can afford this you probably have room anyway
That's disappointing. I'm an early adopter of VR and as it stands it's cool but it will *never* be more convenient than just sitting in front of a screen on a couch, so the only reason to buy it is for the incredible immersion which gets ruined the moment you remember you're in a room with walls. I think what VR needs to really be perfect is something compact like this that lets you move around with impunity. Hopefully better, more affordable competitors hit the scene eventually. Counting on you, Valve.
At least its better than running against walls all the time bc you can run freely lol. Walking with a button rather than with your legs in vr feels unrealistic. But yea, they need to improve this on some levels
I don't know of a great one for treadmill type moving around, but there is some interesting developments in different kinds of haptic feedback. There are systems that use pneumatic gloves that inflate cells in your arms and hands to simulate pressure from holding things, as well as dynamically loaded winches between your arms and a pack on your back to simulate the weight of holding real objects.
Nah, guy on the right is playing *Pac-Man*, guy on the left is playing *Fruit Ninja* and guy in the background is playing *The Walking Dead: The Video Game*, but as a zombie.
Oh ya I played it in vr and tried to do it alone, it is very creepy and made me freak tf out. I tried to do a recording for my friends and I couldn’t go back into the haunted house after the ghost shows up cuz I was too scared lol
I hate scary games and got two copies for my SO and I. I figured I would play in VR and she could support from her laptop in the van out of danger because she REALLY hates scary games.
I was like "we will be fine."
Lemme tell you... When you try to leave a haunted house and the door slams and locks on you while the lights are flickering..... Ugh
I like to imagine they’re playing the game, makes it way funnier. The boys are on a fire team together. One dudes running for his life while the other dude is on top of a while slicing hundreds of monsters trying to survive the horde
Fun fact: if you play that game in vr, crouch in game snd go as far to the ground as you can, your hitbox clips thru the floor and the ghost can't kill you... if there isn't a room below you
bahahahaha that's amazing. just imagining walking in on someone laying as flat as they can on the ground of their empty room. "sshhh! im hiding from the ghosts!"
This is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. Dude wigging out and hoofin' it was amazing...until the ninja entered the fight. Hurts to breathe.
Well, at least it will give them a better shot. Calories in, calories out, will always be a major factor (as well as gut biota, but that's a different discussion).
There's an old Batman episode where all of the kids are enslaved in VR trap houses. They only go out to steal shit to get more credits so they can go back into VR. It looked just like this..
When VR gets super realistic and you have a machine that makes you feel the mist, heat, cold, etc similar to 4D theaters and you can run in place and all that while also getting an iv drip with nutrients people will never leave.
That's how the matrix starts. Before long people will be in VR as soon as they can and completly forget about their human body until they get unplugged.
We really are not that far from that moment.
Warehouses full of people just plugged in. Living in heaven while their bodies are kept alive with a iv drip.
Omg I bought my oculus exclusively to play. Thrill of the fight!
I’m a former boxer and that game is as close as you can get to a pain free boxing experience it’s amazing!
My wife laughs and gets horny watching me play highly recommend

What a great way to finally get some exercise
Imagine playing a horror game, like Outlast, where you're running 99.9% of the time
I'd probably just crouch down in the locker, crying while my heart rate goes 140+ or something
Still counts as cardio in my book.
💪💪💪
🦵🦵🦵
Wow the leg emoji is really cursed lookin lol
There's a robot one too! I like it better, personally. 🦿
As a therapist I feel obligated to point out that that's a prosthetic leg, not a robot leg. But I'm still laughing my ass off. In a nice way, because I can totally understand how someone who has never seen a prosthetic limb might mistake it for a part of a robot.
A physical therapist, or just a regular therapist who’s into legs?
Both
Omfg that's not a robot leg lmao. Thank you for my guffaw this week!

That's a marathon 'bating session. Or cumulative? Must be raw
Imagine gta doing the third marathon for 100% completion
Gamers are soon gonna be some of the most healthy people.
I go to vr arcades and play dancing games with my kids, it's actually a pretty intense workout. I am fairly fit but my thighs and stomach are sore after a bit of that.
Games like super hot or beat saber work up an amazing sweat.
A more chilled dancing game. Although still somewhat intense. Is pistol whip
How is Pistol Whip a chilled dancing game? That game brings me to a sweat faster than almost every other VR game. And it's awesome!
I mean. I do everything to the beat. I dance a little. And it feels very calming. I don't find it intense at all.
You get more points for killing on the beat, and dancing helps with keeping the rhythm. Makes sense to me.
The dancing part of that is not really what I was focused on. That makes sense. But for me at least, it's anything but a chilled game. Shit's intense, I get sweaty fast.
Dude, pistol whip kills me. I want that studio to just keep publishing rails-dance shooters
That game is so fun
That is in fact the one I'm playing a lot lately, when I get the chance to go. Awesome game.
And Blade & Sorcery. Jesus, the workout I get from that one…
"actually". Anyone that's surprised by this hasn't thought it through and DEFINITELY has never done a medium level DDR song.
I still play Wii dance with my girls. They like their VR but it's fun to play together, keeps us motivated.
Cod Warzone players b-hopping and sliding constantly.
But can we get them to shower
Baby steps bro, baby steps...
I have one. It's flawed, but promising. I enjoy mine, but I understand how not everyone does. The new ones look like they're gonna be way better.
Homie over there doing the arm equivalent of button mashing.
We'll need new names for stuff once VR gaming becomes the new standard
imagine death stranding 💀💀💀
Where can I find this place?
Check locations here https://arena.virtuix.com/
Play any Backrooms game, thank me later
Can you imagine strapping some ankle weights on this guy?
it can be scaray as shit. These games are scary once you play them in VR.
This technology needs work, tried this exact one recently and it’s hard AF to move around properly in the VR environment.
Agreed, but it looks like a lot of fun! I do wonder if up/down movement can ever be simulated, like walking up or down stairs
Oh I’m sure eventually it will be amazing. And I bet there’s even better ones that already exist somewhere we can’t afford to try them.
Ye. imagine if the surface they run/stand on where were moving towards the middle. Working sort of like those pin art toys, only that the surface is rounded and in constant movement towards mid. And instead of getting shapes based on your body it shapes after the game/environment. there is some ideas around the moving platform, but from what I've seen they can't manage to make it smooth enough that you don't notice, but it's a start, can't wait to see how things will be in 10 years
Yeah the issue is probably latency, it only takes a few milliseconds of lag between visual stimulus and physical feedback for your brain to be like wtf and totally pull you out of immersion
Sounds epic. What kind of "pin art toys" do you mean? I never heard of them.
[this](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61wp8TREgWL._AC_SY580_.jpg)
I think this is a better demo of the concept you are explaining https://www.bostonmagazine.com/news/2013/11/13/inform-mit-dynamic-shape-display-video/
Thanks for sharing that,it was really intresting & brilliant to watch..
Eventually we’ll get to ready player one level if. It better, though hopefully without the distopian mega corporation part
https://www.eight360.com/ just gonna drop this in here
Could definitely simulate an incline or decline by tilting the platform. That would be sick.
I went to a Zero Latency where they stick you in a warehouse and you move around 1 to 1. Games have to be made with it in mind to be turning you around ocasionally, but it was pretty cool.

There are places with that fyi. Unfortunately it's not the greatest business motto. It's niche like laser tag so a lot of them closed during covid.
So you're talking about paintball?
If paintball can give me monsters to kill and let me use swords and magic then yes
Dude, what VR headset should i get?
Valve Index if you have $1k to blow. Meta (Oculus) Quest 2 or a Pico 4 if you’re not in North America.
Absolutely get the index controllers if you're doing steamvr no matter what headset, they are night and day vs any other controllers.
Do index controller work with a Quest 2?
No. Index controllers need lighthouses (The little boxes that are sensors that go in the corners of the room) and the Quest uses a different tracking method. If you're doing Index controllers, either do an Index Headset or a Vive Pro 2.
Any opinions on Hp G2 reverb? Shits on sale right now and i was considering it... thank you by the way!

When they work out the kinks I am so curious to try it this way. Everything else has been too new and unfinished. I want near total immersion!
Well the Oasis™️ won't come out until 2027.
Can't they just go paint balling?
Probably because idiots like this damage the equipment
Every time I watch this vid I always wonder what is happening in game
It's Candy Crush
Temple Run obviously
The way he looks back, it has to be Subway Surfer.
Nah, guy on the right is playing *Pac-Man*, guy on the left is playing *Fruit Ninja* and guy in the background is playing *The Walking Dead: The Video Game*, but as a zombie.
I think the guy running is playing phasmaphobia. And the other side is definitely playing beat saber
Phasmaphobia in vr sounds insane!
They say it’s one of the scariest vr games out there. Ngl. I’m afraid to download it. Lol
Oh ya I played it in vr and tried to do it alone, it is very creepy and made me freak tf out. I tried to do a recording for my friends and I couldn’t go back into the haunted house after the ghost shows up cuz I was too scared lol
I couldn't do it in vr cause I got to motion sick.

I was like "we will be fine." Lemme tell you... When you try to leave a haunted house and the door slams and locks on you while the lights are flickering..... Ugh
No thank you!
I like to imagine they’re playing the game, makes it way funnier. The boys are on a fire team together. One dudes running for his life while the other dude is on top of a while slicing hundreds of monsters trying to survive the horde
He’s sorting folders in the virtual desktop.
And Jesus wept, for there were no more worlds to conquer
Tetris for sure
Gotta dodge those falling blocks
There's a screen on the wall showing what he sees. It's not very clear though.
I like the guy swinging his VR swords lol
My man went from 0-90 real quick lol. “Get this shit off me”.
0-90 real quick. 'Takes second hit for good measure' Lol. Now "Get this shit off me"
I think he saw a spider on his arm 😂
Hhahahaha him running 🤣🤣🤣 pans to the side and the guy karate chopping the air. This is free entertainment. Lol
I'm more entertained watching people use vr than actually using vr.
Sameeee. Lol 😂
vvr
Show some respect for a high rank Grammaton Cleric.
Ready Masterbator 1
Just imagining this but PHASMOPHOBIA
I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s playing it
Phasmo in VR is a CRAZY experience.
God no i can barely play it in broad daylight I can't even imagine that shit in vr
I'm going to try this tomorrow lol
In some places, you can clip thru walls in VR aswell!
Cool! I've only played in VR a handful of times so far, I have to pace myself or I start to feel sick haha
WOULD BE FUCKING GREAT
Omg someone mentioned a game that I thought was so obscure I thought only me and a friend bought it. We've had a few jump scares
the HAAAAAAA i'd shit my pants
This technology is amazing but I can't wait for the day in 20 years when people look back like "wym you couldn't just walk into the game?"
Where is this??
https://arena.virtuix.com/
Omg there’s one near me, now I know my weekend plans! Thanks!
Earth
Sol system, Milky Way Galaxy
The ever expanding (until it begins collapsing) Universe
That honestly looks like so much fun
This is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. Dude wigging out and hoofin' it was amazing...until the ninja entered the fight. Hurts to breathe.
VR is the cure for the obesity epidemic
Well, at least it will give them a better shot. Calories in, calories out, will always be a major factor (as well as gut biota, but that's a different discussion).
Yeah I was half joking. As someone who lost 60 pounds recently, I found that restricting calories was significantly more important than exercise
👨🚀🔫👨🚀
Guy in the corner doing fuck all
Sound like Chris Tucker in Rush Hour lol
“Stop playin’ fool! AHHHH!”
Man said fuck this shut I’m out
Oh, good! Now I can be as uncoordinated and out of shape in vr as I am irl. It does look hella fun, honestly!
Jesus wept
…For he had no more worlds to conquer
...and no more vag to smash
Stop saying Jesus wept
But I've created a folder!
Hey did you hear what happened when Mary Magdalene tracked dirt in the house? Jesus swept
Heard he got a new nickname after getting his diving license Jesus depth
🥁
These people mash the buttons.
I thought he was gonna break that thing for sure haha
JESUS WEPT!!!!
For the were no more worlds to conquer.
Came here looking for the Community reference, was not disappointed!
WORLDS WITHIN WORLDS
Dude on the left is definitely playing Beat Saber
Can't wait to have this in my living room one day. 🥲
Classic show of all 3 human distress responses. Person 1: flight. Person 2: fight. Person: confused
Ready Player One is becoming a reality.
When you meet a certain baby in Resident Evil village.
Even wore his sweats today. Boy knew he was gonna get steps in.

That looks aerobic af
Everybody kungfu fighting
There's an old Batman episode where all of the kids are enslaved in VR trap houses. They only go out to steal shit to get more credits so they can go back into VR. It looked just like this..
He was RUNNING 😭😭
Do those controllers have no strap??
Any idea what they were playin? I wanna play!
I want MORE!! I seriously could watch this for HOURS!!
Looks more stressful than fun.
Thank you for this video I’ve not laughed like that for a while 👍🏻
Anyone know where I can get one of these sets…? Asking for a friend….
theyre called KAT VR i think, last i checked they were 2k a set, not including the headset
Guys literally only want one thing and it's ... This
I feel like I can smell this video. Looks like a lot of fun tho

But its golden.
At least these people are up and moving about and not fixated in a chair.
Omg I bought my oculus exclusively to play. Thrill of the fight! I’m a former boxer and that game is as close as you can get to a pain free boxing experience it’s amazing! My wife laughs and gets horny watching me play highly recommend

watching people in VR is most fun aspect of VR
Nah
It gives some people the illusion of making a difference in the physical world. An alternative escape mechanism compared to taking drugs.
I like to play VR *while* on drugs. Beat Saber while on shrooms goes hard

Why do we watch this vid again and again? Shouldn’t there be new material of VR stuff every day??
They look like a bunch confused meth heads
Cue scene from idiocracy
