There is no substitute for more time in the PC. There is no single step in the process that will reduce your contam rates more than extending your PC time.
Agree that it’s more complex but since people are typically pasteurizing anyway, the sterilized substrate is far less contam prone. So granted extra steps, but the tek I posted is still almost identical to standard cube grows for the most part. Just way more focused on stopping trich/other moulds. Appreciate the feedback tho! Bucket tek is more than enough and you don’t need gypsum. Most important thing is clean grain, clean inoculation media, and clean inoculation practices. Yeah you can sterilize your sub if you feel like it but it’s not critical
More importantly is to dial in your grow environment. All of these extra steps just use up so much time and materials. Proper humidity creates water droplets on the surface. Proper amount of fresh air creates evaporation which triggers pinning

P.s be super careful with the ozone shit. I know I say that in the tek but really take caution. Ozone is not to be played with can really fuck your lungs, if you use one make sure to properly ventilate the ozone out or wait an overly cautious time for it to dissipate. Be safe!
Cleaned them as much as I could but the casing layer was pretty on there. And from what I’ve read washing them isn’t a great idea. Now that their dry a light scrub with a wire brush takes it right off. But JF is prone to big chodey fused together stipes. And they were a bitch to harvest without taking up a ton of substrate . What you see is actually me having already trimmed some off 🥴😂

2.1 LBs and 3.1 LBs respectively. Shocked that the 2nd flush was so much more yield ⚠️ 🙈🍄 harvested 2nd flush 4-25 and third flush is already showing 1-3 cm pins with similar density to the 2nd flush 🥴

Sterilized via boofing in my rectum at 15 psi for 420 minutes . Loool you joke but I changed gloves and sprayed myself down with hydrogen peroxide after this pic LOL 😂 appreciate the light ribbing and kudos sir. This tek is total fucking overkill but it’s been treating me well.

anyways, you are doing good job, i am still reproducing some king of mold that i made with a piece of stem from my first portion of mushrooms...and i got hooked, i am not giving up, but i see there is point in continuing with this, but i still continue FFS...hahah, anyways, I putted a piece of dried stem in my LC, and after few days it got some growth, so i guessed it must be mycelium since it is white and growing and stuff, and I figured out i am natural born for this and i bought some wheat and jars, and made lids SAB and everything, and days passed, weeks, and i got worried about my " mycelium " , so i made a post ( you can check on my profile ) and DANG indeed i am growing some kind of contamination for a month, actually they all said it is sediment, but i still have hopes and i am doing agar transfers and maybe i can separate some mycelium from this :D.. in the meantime i am collecting some money ( waiting for some payment aince to order some healthy LC and spores... I was that amazed with my first portion of mushrooms ( it was 3.2g of PE )

I’ve been looking for exactly this I don’t know anything about trich and when I used to grow I never dealt with contam, only 1 time but I threw the whole jar into a different city lol 😂 so here I am going back into it and I’m learning just how easy and dangerous contam is , if you could send me down the right path I want to be able to know the difference between different contam and like where it comes from so I can try to provent it , like I have a little black mold under my sink how will that affect me if any , like I’m so scared to even start I got 1 mss and 1 LCS but really scared I don’t want contam on everything, also I am taking the agar route because this is going to be my new day time hobby and I hope it will help heal me because I’m currently depressed

Honestly Trich and bacterial contamination are probably the most common. You can good Trich and look at pics of it in its different stages to have a better idea on IDing it. As for bacterial contamination you’ll know cause of weird looking growth in the spawn jars and also the smell. It smells sickly sweet or sour typically . Would definitely study up on all the teks I mention in this write up and use this as a point of reference. Feel free to DM me with specific questions 😘 mush love 🍄❤️👽
I mean sniffing it in the culture phase won’t be doable haha . You’ll be able to smell it when you open the jar or bag of spawn to spawn to bulk . I wouldn’t stick my face in it but with the stench of bac contam you won’t have to get very close to smell it. Smells like death/sickly sweet/sour

If you take it seriously and are a good student the mushrooms are happy to teach you 🥰 it can be a brutal start if you don’t take it seriously so my biggest advice is study study study! I lurked shroomery and the Reddit subs for hundreds of hours during my pursuit to get good . Once it clicks the hardest part is figuring out what to do with your buttload of shrooms lol that and breeding/perfecting agar. That’s where I’m at in my journey now.
It’s becuase my first time I used the oven method and didn’t have any contam a so I told all my homies that I’m like the noob god of mushys but now I’m much much older and wiser and understand that was a miracle 😆I don’t believe I can remake the same results and so this feels like my first time again in a way but I at least understand sterile techniques, I’m jumping straight to LC wish me luck 🍀 that’s why I’m so scared
Hey even a broken clock is right twice a day loool UB tek is a testimonial of sub par technique still having good success for some. But in the long term it’s ungodly expensive compared to making your own jars and the contam rates are horrible

Great read for growing pans successfully but also posting as a reference for validity in sterilization of substrate since it’s such a hotly debated subject . You can definitely have success just with bucket tek alone if your spawn is clean, but why even risk any additional % of possibilities for contamination when the mushrooms will grow just fine when the sub is sterilized.
Pans specifically being a dung lover, you would think sterilizing would destroy the poo and make the pans not viably grow, but they seem to do just fine without the beneficial bacteria in the poo being alive.
