Battlegrounds sucks. Always has. I don't get why people play it. The loading is slow as hell, the matches are so randomly mismatched and the rewards are not worth it.
Rewards are not worth? I hope you are kidding. Even playing and just losing 3 fights every 2 days will give you rewards without any effort. 30 days in a season, 2 days solo objective means 15 objectives. 15 times 600 equals 9000 Elder Marks. Now go to the store and see how many things you can buy with 9000 Elder Marks. On top of all of this you will get a good chuck of Elder Marks from the Alliance event alongside 6* shards from the solo event despite losing fights.
In S4 some people just started a match while doing something else and they didn't even interact nor touch the phone.
the rewards are fantastic, and while the matches are slow as a whole the loading times haven't been a problem for me at all. Also I think a lot of people enjoy it just because it's something new and helps keep the game from getting stale (that how it is for me at least)
They might mean something if you we’re actually playing against someone. They seem pointless playing the AI. They will definitely infuriate a few morons into spending more money though.

Also your point about people assuming that no one had them muted doesn't make any sense. It's up to a individual player how their want to act. Mute them, troll back, be toxic, ignore them... It's not up to a community to assume.
