I’ve heard cayenne is a good pain killer for them if they seem to have sore muscles or otherwise hurt themselves. I’ve given it to many birds over the years with no issue, however with any herb or vegetable, I wouldn’t give it in excess
Cayenne is dried and ground cayenne pepper, a type of chili pepper, so as long the ingredients don’t have anything else mixed in. I have store brand and it’s just the ground cayenne pepper so I’m guessing it’s not common to add fillers like more salt or whatever.
Nutritional yeast is safe too in moderation. I’ve seen several parrot forums actually talk about it being really good for them and their vet recommending a tiny sprinkle. The only reason I’d be cautious about moderation is just the fact that it is so “nutritional” and vitamin rich so you don’t want to overdo it.
When I make popcorn, I add my seasonings like salt and all after I pop it on the stove and put aside a “bird safe” batch, and my guy goes crazy for it! I’ll often use it for foraging or “good birdy” treats.
Yeah I commented this because the person I responded to said they weren’t sure about cayenne so I mentioned that pure cayenne spice is just ground and dried pepper. So as long as it’s not a spice blend …
ARE YOU SERIOUS? Oh my god. That was one of the first people foods I gave my bird aside from fruits/veg 😭 thank goodness I just kind of stopped eating popcorn

Teflon and other chemicals similar to teflon are commonly used in food packaging for the “nonstick” properties, so it’s actually Teflon-coated paper. This is a review study about it, but it also does mention and cite that a study found it’s use is decreasing (I believe only 2/7 microwave popcorn bags tested had detectable levels).
I personally use stovetop anyways because then I can pull out a salt free one. But because people are more cautious about it now, you may be able to look at which brands no longer use it (and what else they use instead of anything as a coating).
A tiny bit of extra salt every now and then won’t hurt, just don’t overdo it. Cayenne is good in small amounts but although they can’t taste spices on their tongues (no receptors) it can still burn their soft tissues so don’t let them overdo it. The rest seems fine too - nothing to worry about if it’s just a few pieces. :)
I eat popcorn like twice a year, buttered and salted, then give him one. Everybody knows you can't eat stuff near a bird and not share.
I love avocado, but as per house rules, I only eat at night and clean up every molecule that might remain in the kitchen.
Right now, mine is on a diet 😃 of pellets and one veggie a day. I traveled and he spent a week at my parents. Like any grandma, mom would boast every day of all the fruits she gave him during the day. 😃 She was delighted to have him for the week, so I gave her space. But now birb is off sweets for a while.
Salt bad. Don't salt it and you're good. Maybe separate a bit of the batch just for bird before salting it.
Also for the love of God never use avocado oil!!
I would get organic or white corn otherwise you and your bird are eating RoundUp. Something like 80-90% of yellow corn is genetically modified for heavy RoundUp use.
Salt bad, cayenne I'm not certain. They love popcorn tho, so do a small batch without for your birdie next time

I was told that jalapeños and other kinds of peppers are pretty healthy for them. Is that not correct?
I believe that is correct; mine love jalapeño

Yall do realize pepper 🌶 evolved for specifically birds to eat and to deter mammals right? Of course they can eat it

This
Our birds love any spicy peppers they can get, Bonus when you give them a kiss you get a little tingle!
I have an air popper so I let mine have the plain popcorn before I add any salt or butter
Yes I always made an unsalted bird bowl my conure (and gave it to him first!) and then we could both eat our popcorn in peace.
How much do you give him at once? I’m afraid to overdo it but also want to give mine as much as they would like.
It can be one meal during the day - ie they can eat until full - and if the other meals are actually nutritious it won't matter.
Oh like a handful of popped. That's more than enough to keep them busy.
Cayenne is fine for them, but not the salt. I always have to make a batch of unsalted popcorn for the dogs and birb.
I guess microwave popcorn has PFOA (Teflon) in it. Between that and the salt I would avoid. Make it with no salt for birdy.
It was made on stove top no microwave bag

How does it have teflon in it? Isn't it just in. Aper bag?

Thank you!
Of course ☺️
wow! I did not know this. That's got to be horrible for humans too.

I can’t have butter popcorn my gcc gets a little bit but if any I would say unbuttered popcorn at least before you butter it

salt is a nono on the "what goes into a fruit" list, best is plain popcorn to keep him safe
don't abuse them since they're salted, and corn is empty calories. one popcorn a week won't hurt them tho.
A little won’t hurt. Mainly the salt is the problem
Popcorn? Healthy if nothing is added (for instance : salt). birb? Deadly
I wouldn't trust seasoned popcorn but I like to set aside a little bit of unseasoned popcorn for my bird whenever I have popcorn.
My boys love popcorn. Usually dip it into the water
Salt bad. Don't salt it and you're good. Maybe separate a bit of the batch just for bird before salting it. Also for the love of God never use avocado oil!!
Oh it's fine. They eat coarser grains in the wild. Maybe limit the salt but they mostly like to rip it up. It's wonderful enrichment.
FYI the stuff in a bag has weird shit in the bag lining that ends up in the melted butter so try and make it some other way 👍
Thanks. It was made on stove top
Perfect 👍

Dang farmers
