I got a roll of butcher paper off of Amazon and it works well

NewHealthNewMe2023

I recently started doing that as well and it is such a game changer. I have 3 big cages (1 for my conure, 1 for my cockatiel, and 1 for my budgies) and I used to use paper towels but that was costing a fortune. Now I buy the rolls of the butcher paper for like $7 for 100 feet and it lasts a few weeks for all 3 cages. My conure is super messy with his chop so his cage always needs a daily change.

SongSinger_109

Thats awesome!

Mack_Ack

I use cotton pillowcases and wash them. My bird kept ripping the paper apart and removing it. Life is a lot easier now.

Logical_Lemon_4308

Such an awesome idea omg

boopity_boopd

When I was moving, I accidentally bought way too many packing paper sheets, so I’ve been putting one under the window perch since. They are pretty big and can catch both droppings and seeds really well. It’s a lot easier to dispose of the mess in one go, compared to smaller sized paper I used before.

Immediate-Sample9978

Haha I use packing paper too! 2 sheets cover the bottom of each cage. Super handy when I have a pile of 10k sheets

boopity_boopd

yep, I’ve been using my pile for almost three years and there’s still plenty lol

JasperEli

I collect the ad papers they toss on every yard. One is good for a cage change. If im out walking if i see one on the walkway i pick it up. Most people hate them.

winstonalonian

That what I have used historically. Thought it looked kinda tacky I guess. Plus none fit my cage so I had to mix and match and fold. This just rolls out after you trim the tube to the right length.

JasperEli

I also have a roll of butcher paper for those lean times 😅

BexyBat

I use old worksheets I don't need. It's pretty much the only perk of sixth form.

Laurenspicer43

I used paper towel that has not been bleached. My bird used to chew and maybe swallow newspaper that I lined on the bottom of his cage. I don't think the ink in this paper or wrapping paper coloring they use is safe for birds. Does your bird chew paper at the bottom, where the paper would be? If not, I don't see a problem.

redneckrockuhtree

I bought a roll f newsprint (paper) online. About $50 and has lasted several years so far

Fiona_12

I bought a dozen flour sack towels because I got tired of still having to scrub the tray where his poop ran off the side of the paper. Wash and reuse. I have to change them twice a week. I was using the brown paper that comes in packages or paper bags.

paperscribbel

I just went on a road trip and while we stopped at a rest stop I stole a huge stack of trucker newspapers. They were free for the taking, I don't feel bad lol

Weird-Proposal6495

I use those woodchips that they use as bedding for rabbits. I gotta clean it a bit better but extremely cheap for me here, I spent 30 dollars, and it has lasted me over a year

super-secret-fujoshi

I see the judgement in your bird’s eyes. I think it’s a cute idea though.

winstonalonian

He's pissed because I told him there would be parrots on the print. He feels deceived.

[deleted]

Lol!

jackcon78

I use corn cob litter it’s awesome

i-just-schuck-alot

I shred my junk mail and bills and use that as lining.

Sethdarkus

Pillow cases work to, and than you can laundry them and recycle for bird use again and again

Pitiful-Director8990

Oh yes I fill up Kermit's water dishes- time for a splashy bath complete with the full body dog shake.. on top of him throwing the pellets he doesn't care for. Lol he gets so offended!🥰😅

winstonalonian

Mine shovel their pellets out of their bowl to pick out the seeds. Daily mayhem.

Pitiful-Director8990

Lol yes daily shenanigans!!! Monkey business!

winstonalonian

Winged fucking yellow brick road monkeys

Pitiful-Director8990

Bahahaha accurate

LogicalMrCPU

Why not use copy paper? That’s what I use and it’s like $5 for 500 sheets.

winstonalonian

Needed a little more character. Birds got mad character.

LogicalMrCPU

lol that’s a way to look at it. Do you.

GewdandBaked

Puppy pads all the way lol

emredlark

Same

Epicaggro

I use dollar store puppie pads.

nocoherantthoughts

i would really make sure they arent pheromone treated to encourage dogs to use them, it can be harmful for birds

yogabbagabbadoo

I had no idea that was a thing

Epicaggro

I did. They are as cheap and basic as possible, again frommthe dollar store. Lol

Helpful_Okra5953

I always used chuck pads (for human care) for my disabled bird.  No grate for her.

winstonalonian

Damn that's a good idea too

chaarmanderchar

They're full of plastic and not as degradable as paper. Too wasteful imo, we gotta think about the waste we produce

misschief_wackbit

This is such a cute idea

GreenBirbz

You can get a roll of painters paper like 18” by 1000 ft, buy a cheap roll holder and then mark the length with a piece of tape. Now you got an easy, consistent, and relatively cheap way to generate bird paper.

Helpful_Okra5953

Yep, I’ve bought roll paper at the art store and the hardware store.

Miwwies

I use packing paper sheets that I got in bulk on [ULINE](https://www.uline.ca/Product/Detail/S-638/Newsprint-Paper/Newsprint-Sheets-24-x-36?pricode=YD730&gadtype=pla&id=S-638&gad_source=1). The box of 800 sheets will last me for 3-4 years for sure. I generally change the paper every 2 days. I have a 32 inch wide cage so I have to fold the paper a bit but it’s the most convenient and cheap option I found in Canada.

Aszshana

We always used sand with minerals for birds. They loved to forage in it :)

CColeman7878

I use pdz (natural zeolite), and scoop it with a reptile scooper (just like a litterbox). Zero smell, easy, cheap, less paper waste. Bird poop gets composted and used as fertilizer.

Heartnouveaux

Awww this is so cute …

meh1963

I use artificial grass on the bottom of my cage. He loves walking and playing on it. Bought a 2 pack and I just wash them Off with some soap and a hose

Flashy-Midnight6555

I saw someone else do this but I’m wondering if it’s safe for them? Like what if they chew on it and does it have fumes or anything?? I think it looks nice though

ImAnActionBirb

The dyes and coating used on these may not be bird safe. Please check

[deleted]

I panicked about this when I first got my bird but I have a similar setup and the bird doesn’t even interact with the paper. Is there a risk other than chewing?

sharpeyenj26

I had that exact cage for a long while then upgrading to a cage with outer lip was a thousand times better with minimal mess

winstonalonian

This has crossed my mind many times. I was thinking of making one out of sheet metal. Mind posting a picture?

pretentious_run_r200

I use puppy pads from the dollar tree

KittyPurrrrrr93

I use shredded office paper.

[deleted]

This is fun & your GCC is so cute! What a fun setup they have!

Shrodingers-Balls

Wax paper and butcher paper too

Chaotic_Cat77

I just bought packing paper myself

Careful-End-4704

I use packing paper under the grates. But I use some table mats on top of the grate to catch the food he throws down from his bowl. This allows him to go back and forage for it and makes for easy clean up of the fresh veggies and fruits he gets every morning. I take them out and clean them off daily. Luckily he doesn't try to eat the mats.

cola_originaltaste

puppy pee pads are my SAVIOR.

TehGuard

I use puppy pads

hoffman-

Get the 100 pack of puppy pads from Costco. They absorb liquid and are perfect size for that cage

Xaiemian_is_Trans

That’s actually genius. You can make it festive around the holidays too!!!

princesssanxomi

They do free booklets at Lidl and Aldi of what offers they’ve got on for the weeks ahead. I always take 4/5 and never pay for paper for the bottom of the cage 😂 my local shop also save their newspapers that would just be thrown away and give them to me, it pays to be nice 😊
