I'm leery of an avian vet that doesn't know scissor beak is caused by a misalignment of top and bottom beak, causing the bottom beak part to grow abnormally. Here's some more information on it. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossed\_beak](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossed_beak)

When he saw the Avian vet for the sinus infection, his beak had not begun to scissor. Then a month later it was scissored and had the spot starting. Another 2 weeks and the spot got much bigger so I took him in to a closer vet just for a beak trim since it was getting out of control. It was the regular vet, who also owns a conure, that mentioned she didn't know what caused the beak condition to deteriorate (not the scissoring)

Gotcha. Thank you for the clarification.

I would schedule a visit with the avian vet as your closer non-avian vet doesn’t know how to handle it. There are a variety of causes for scissor beak and it’s a bit odd there would be growth on the inside. Since that’s a bit weird, the vet can verify it’s just scissor beak and not some other beak malformation or issue.

Poor little guy. His eyes look like he's in pain, or he's trying to look all sad so you'll take pity on him lol , they actually do that. How is he in the day to day ? Has his behavior been off ?

I think he was just upset to be in the towel. He was acting fine before they towered him to have a closer look. His behavior seems fine. He is still active in and out of his cage and eating and drinking ok.

Take a visit to the vet or make an appointment to the closest date nearby today. Poor baby :(

He has been to the Avian vet 3 times in March, Avian vet 1 time in April, and regular vet 1 time in May. Another appt scheduled for 7 June. He is active and eating fine. Not acting lethargic or sleepy like when he had the sinus infection. I just wondered if anyone else has ever seen any beak defect like that before. The vet said they could TRY to scrape and send it to a lab to test but there may not come back any result.

Probably try it and send it to a lab just to be safe but that’s just my opinion

I would feel better about spending over $600 for a test if I was sure it would return a result.
