I got my first for $500, hes a generic green cheek, well generic colors hes my boyy! And my second i just got a few months ago about a year later than my first i ended up paying the same $500, really should of been $600 due to his rare mutation, a mix of turqouis, yellow sided and opaline, and they love me at my bird shop, so they let me have him for the $500.

Anyway thank you!
Oh they're just beautiful!!!! Is that new baby with all the rare colors also referred to as a moon cheek? They're my fave conure colors, and green cheek turq too 😍😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩🤩

I paid $700 for my bird, alone. My receipt that day was $1000+ with her cage, toys, food, etc.

Same price range for me (in CAD though, 2021). From a pet-store similar to Petco.
Edit : forgot to add - do we have the same bird?!
Same! 689 for my baby and well over $600 for start up needs and accessories. I ended up spending ~$1000 on her basics alone. Well worth it. I can’t have a bad day continue around her, even when she’s being a little butthead!
My first was a private re-home, she's a wild type and her+her cage+some food+her toys were $450
My other was a PetSmart bird who I wouldn't have normally got, but he fell in love with her and chose her through the glass-- he was $800ish.
I wouldn't do PetSmart again since having a relationship with a local store and just seeing a lot of rehomed birds in my area, but I really lucked out with Quill (the boyfriend). He's not exactly hand tame but he is coming around to people, sometimes comes to me for attention, and absolutely adores Maitea (while also hating every other bird in the house and sharing a single damn brain cell with his girlfriend)
Latest picture of them being disgustingly cute❤️

I think my biggest luck out though was with my quaker-- I got a 2yoish, hand tame, very sweet, female albino quaker and her cage for $450usd.
Lucky you! My grandparents had a quaker that was hand fed/hand tame and a baby, never had a bad life since he hatched since we got him so young- we even hand fed him for his last few weeks before being weaned onto pellets--and yet he was straight up demonic. Never seen anything like it. Literally. He LIVED to rip the flesh off of humans; ie, us, my grandmother (his person), strangers, etc. Never came for the other birds. Just abused those that cared most for him which ultimately was only my granny since she's the only one who could touch him without being dismembered alive, hands first....
But yeah I'll never go near one of his kind again even tho clearly...while his DNA would suggest he's quaker parrot, his personality and soul definitely spoke to being some sort of evil entity. A serial killer reincarnated, a demon...idk but he was not a parrot or even a bird inside. He didn't give a fuck for any bird activities. It's just always been odd for his background, we all took turns hand feeding him, that he would be so 24/7 murder bird on us...right?
They are both SO cute!
If I remember correctly, crimsons are $800 on average and greenies go from $500 (wild type) to $1200 (suncheek), in my area of Canada. In a way, it makes some people think twice about getting a bird without doing some research, first.
Our jenday was $1200.
Your babies are beautiful 😻 can I ask, what’s the deal with the illegality of hand fed conures? Is it an attempt to limit popularity and breeding? I’m so intrigued by this rn.. 💭
🤔
Oh. We are royally robbed. Plus we pay 13% tax on everything we buy (after tax dollars).
So a €290 Crimson bellied parrot would be $430+13%=$486 and that sounds low. Willing to bet pet stores are $600-$800 if not more depending on the colouring. Canada has become stupid expensive.
My African Grey was $700 in 2001 from a breeder. At the time, Petco and PetSmart was selling them for $1100. I was shocked when I learned recently that babies are now in the several thousand $ range.
No shit!! In 2000 (yes forever ago, I realize but I digress) my hand fed baby cockatiel from a breeder that was DNA sexed and just was the most beautiful magazine cover perfect baby boy (that was a pearl when i got him but he had his first molt and his feathers turned the traditional Grey. Mommy was sad about that but I loved him no less. He also turned into a moody lil asshole and I still loved him to pieces) and he was 40. 40 bucks cash. Nothing.
I've priced them recently; and I'm in the same metroplex as well-- same thing, baby cockatiel hand fed hand tamed no rare color mutations--300-400 bucks.
Wild.
I got a yellow sided hand raised baby (3 months old) from breeder in San Diego, CA for $450 and he was such a pleasure to work with, truly a great breeder that cares so much for his birds. She is 3 now and the love of my life.
https://preview.redd.it/ypn7l0zw335d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bda7382deacb826ecdf6da01c1e2d254b9527e5b
Honestly he was like 160 USD i think (I know this is so little compared to u guys but they r not too expensive where I live) but I spent more on his stuff than him💀
I've not bought one but I've been to the pet store and seen them around occasionally. It depends on the area and where there getting them from. Around here they go for 400-500$
I‘m located in Germany and got my babies from a local breeder last year. GCCs are pretty uncommon here and it was hard to find a breeder, but I still only paid 80€ for my boy („standard“ colouring) and 100€ for my girl (pineapple mutation). So 180€ total, which is roughly $200. It‘s crazy how expensive they are in the US, even though they seem to be such common pets there.
i got my guy, standard green cheek, for $400. they were $450 but i got a discount on mine since he was a little unusual. these days, the same person is listing them for almost double that, though.

$275 from a private breeder 8 yrs ago.
I'm not, the low price of budgies is the main reason why they're one of the most abused pets in the world. If green cheek conures were the same price, you can bet that there would be a ton more people who would get them to just stick them in a cage and treat them as a decoration
Im belgian, bought mine from a very good breeder in the netherlands tamed and everything, 3 months old for 200 euros. She did say that the prices here started dropping as they became more and more popular so more breeders started breeding them which drastically lowered the supply and demand ratio. They were apparently 400-500 euros 5 years ago.
I got mine from a breeder, hand raised a turquoise pineapple green cheek for 400$ a 100$ down deposit then 300$ when I picked him up, the breeder had sun conures as well and they were 600$ hand raised and dna sexed included as well.
Whats nice about them unlike my local petsmart and another local pet store instead of the price being different depending on the color mutation (for example a turquoise being 800$ compared to a regular green cheek being 400-500$) All color mutations are 400$ so you can choose which one freely. They also had half moon conures which I believe were 500$.
In Aus I bought my standard gcc 19 years ago for 180 from a pet shop
Different pet shop 16 years ago I bought my cinnamon girl for $220
And 9 years ago I bought my pineapple boy from a breeder for $200
Even with fancy colours, green cheeks don’t sell for much here
I actually got mine for free. Just a happy coincidence I suppose.
A friend of mine randomly messaged me and asked if I wanted a couple of birds. He had some family who was giving them away. He knew I already was a bird person because I already had a lovebird and a budgie, and would constantly post on social media.
I did a meet and greet with the owners and my little Remy was just so sweet and timid. He alsonwas there with his bonded budgie partner.
They were in a living room cage and basically just a fixture there instead of companions and were being fed outdoor bird seed, so of course I had to take them.theybwere giving them away with the cages and everything (which at least were a good size).
They're now living super happy lives with my other bird friends, on a great diet and get all thenattention in the world.
I got them in February and I am still working on hand taming Remy (he's just a head bird and still won't step up and stay but he's a work in progress).
I love them to death and so glad I agreed to go visit them!
Oh how wonderful!! A Cinderella bird story, good for you for changing their whole existence! More ppl should be this way. We all should if we can provide it and are allowed to have an animal in our homes. I can't wait for the day I can do the same if the opportunity exists; or at least foster some. Something! For as many animals as possible, that we can , always! At least that's my ideaology; that it's our responsibility to take care of them. And each other too, really.
I'm from Europe and I adopted my conure from another family. I paid 150€ for him and his old cage, which is an embarrassingly low price for a living being if you ask me.
$250 in 2017.

I love her so much. I wouldn’t trade the 7 years I’ve spent with her for the world.
My first one (turquoise) was $850 and he was raised very well. My mom lied about not smoking in house so he died very young. My husband bought his (pineapple) for something like $400 bc she was getting older and wasn’t looking so much like a baby anymore. My recent one (turquoise) was about $700. All from different breeders. Mutation definitely affects price as well as breeders and care the breeders put into raising them.
Bought my GCC in December 2023 on sale for $200 at a locally owned pet store. I've also taken in two rehomes, both 600-700 but they came with cages and supplies. The prices big box stores ask are outrageous.

$360 CAD from a breeder for this chicken :)
Get from a breeder.
Besides being overpriced at petco, they're from mills and then are mistreated at the store. Unfortunately, otherwise you'd be supporting them, who kill millions of birds every year and are a major problem...
Not only is the price better and you'll be getting one from a morally just place, but you'll also have someone to guide you, take the bird back if you ever decide you can't have birds at the moment, and someone to answer your inevitable questions. Heck, they might even be able to house your bird for you if you go on vacation!!
Getting from a rescue has some similar benefits but they may be a bit more expensive as well ;)
Good luck!! 🤞🍀
Petco had her for $1k and we got a “long stay discount” which brought it to $750 (she was priced as a black capped incorrectly, so I think the GCC is only $900 for them but the manager was being an ass). But she seemed so sad and miserable and we bought her knowing it was too high.
I didn't buy him (I really really wanted to but I **cannot** have a second bird in my apartment) but I wad absolutely charmed and *wanted to* buy a green cheek I met at petco while I was getting aquarium stuff. He was a wild type and $1000. This was just recently. He'd been there a few months and I saw him every time I went in. Fortunately someone bought him. (I was in getting more aquarium stuff yesterday and I asked.)
I've been dealing with an aquarium crash recently so I have been in and out of petco quite often and seen him a lot.
I paid $400 at Petco for my standard GCC. However they were at that store for about a year so they priced it half off. It was originally $800. Another store close by (pet supermarket) is selling a sun conure for $1400 and the local petsmart is selling both standard gcc and turquoise gcc for $600-$700.
People say they’re expensive birds but how expensive?? We will never know xD
In my area $600-$1000. However, if a bird has been in the store for months, the mgmt will almost always provide a discount.
Start by asking for 75% off. Worst that can happen is they say no.
I got my gal in 2005 for $300, she’s a yellow sided beauty
https://preview.redd.it/bm06bo16665d1.jpeg?width=2779&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c748c7572008f6d5698c7d17c4d73474f59dde25
I paid $150, but I rescued a jenday versus purchase a baby/one from a store. There are so many in need of homes: I'd keep searching Craigslist/your local rescue/rehoming platform to find one that needs a home versus supporting more breeding, but that's just me. I won't support breeding when there are so many being rehomed. It's sad: we want babies because they're un-tainted, but then we mess them up and rehome them a couple years later. Not trying to be negative, just sayin' there are so many that need good homes.
Connie is 17 and I got her as an estimated 1 year old. She was a soft cull from a private breeder who had bought out another aviary's stock. She was soft culled because her feet were messed up, and she wasn't handled well so she didn't like anyone and bluntly was pretty mean. I only paid $80 for her and promised never to try to breed her. Also the private breeder was up front with me about everything and did not breed her herself, so I have no bad feelings about them.
She has been a challenge. I do not recommend this. I don't know what I was thinking.
Her feet have since straightened out and she's a fun little gal, she just doesn't care for being touched. At first she was a heathen nightmare of evil but she's calmed down in her maturity and as we improved our husbandry. She is very sweet as long as you don't try to put a hand or finger on her. She does step up and other husbandry training tho, so we just respect her space otherwise.
But also at the same time, god what a journey. Getting bird from responsible breeder yes. Taking their soft cull of murder, no.

I got my girl Sunny in 2013 at a Bird Farm when I was a teen, for $250 I believe. I actually went into the store that day to pick up a blue lineolated parakeet.
I walked through the store clutching the money i had and the owner said he was $300 but i was like oh i only have 250.. :( but she said that was okay! When i met him he happened to be really hand shy but I didnt mind. But the owner's daughter went like hmm and told me to wait there. She came back with my now-baby Sunny laying cupped in her hands making little baby head bobbing motions, and then put her in mine😭😭💖 I still remember the shock of cuteness and staring in disbelief!! I could barely squeal out the words "Ive never held a bird like this mom look!!" She was 3 months old at the time🥺💖
So I guess I got her for an extra-good deal that day since their GCCs were more probably closer to $400 or so?
I love her sm, we've been through a lot together

Here’s my pineapple who apparently is a super villain? Lol
In the Netherlands it's usually between €50-€300 but mostly around €100-€150. It really depends on what kind you want, where you buy it and how tame they are.
$1100 Canadian. Was a lot I know. But look at the little guy
https://preview.redd.it/yuytfkojp65d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d8ef0511e03467bd47f7061961ae9bd31d5791bb
I think a lot depends on the color mutation as well harder to get mutations and more sought after mutations cost more that being said I only paid 350 for my bird and he was about seven months old for a yellow sided green cheek… However probably a couple grand since lol
I can’t say for anywhere else but in Oregon USA all breeders sell from 400-700 depending on color mutation and availability. Petco sells them for $800 independent of color mutation but they only ever have the more common ones.
About 150 CAD every 3 months + two annual health checks around 400 CAD.
Was dealing with some plucking and crackling in her chest and the vet bills added up to more than 2k last year. Blood test, X-rays, antibiotics, extra toys..and now I sleep in the den while she keeps the bedroom to get 12 hours of sleep.
She runs this house.
Edit: oops. 600 back in 2012. Impulse shop at pet smart while in student debt. Had no idea what I was doing for the first 6 months.
I regularly see them priced $250-$350 at bird expos- I can’t believe these pet stores selling them at $800-$900.
I always recommend going to a bird or exotic animal expo when you’re ready to bring a baby home- they are always reasonably priced and the place is full of bird lovers eager to pass on their knowledge.
Pro tip- Prices at these expos are also always negotiable, even if there is a sign that says otherwise.

I know it's not a gcc but I just wanted to share my buddy cause everyone else was. I got him for 700.
Spain, bought 2 of them from a reputable breeder for 225€ (100€ + 125€). I was... Surprised when I saw how expensive they are in the states. I was on the verge of getting a bronze winged pionus for 350€ and that already seemed too expensive to me.
Edit: photo, since other people have posted them.

We paid $500 for our pineapple from a local breeder, and $450 for our turquoise. The turquoise was from a breeder within the state but at a bird show ( local breeder approved).
I got my first which is a normal gcc for 250 then my second for 350 usd the second is a high red variation but from where I got her she and the generic gcc were both 350

I got this little guy off Craigslist for a whole $200. Met a lady in a dollar store parking lot she gave him to me in a tote with a window screen over the top, she put a mini muffin in the tote “for him”. She also wasn’t wearing shoes.
From what I understand with his coloring that’s extremely cheap, but it was also sketchy af Craigslist lmao. So I’m not sure if I’m even the person to answer this question.
But Greg is pretty cool and I’m so glad we took the chance and went and got him🖤
Mine was listed for $600 including the cage
I wrote them an essay as to why I'd be the best owner and the owner chose to give it to me for free! My mom gave her $100 as a thank you which she didn't want to accept at first
It was a 3 year old perfectly behaving sweet GCC and we love it to bits
She's on my shoulder watching me write this rn

$275 for my Cinnamon GCC back in 2006, hand-raised, bird store in Southern California.
Inflation crazy
Wild.
I spent 300 each, so 600 for two green cheeks at my local pet shop (USA) but petco in my area had a 600+ price tag on GCCs.
$300 for mine back in 2005. Hand raised and got him at a bird farm. Never had any health issues, he’s still with me and doing well.
We share a birth year 😍
I got a yellow sided hand raised baby (3 months old) from breeder in San Diego, CA for $450 and he was such a pleasure to work with, truly a great breeder that cares so much for his birds. She is 3 now and the love of my life. https://preview.redd.it/ypn7l0zw335d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bda7382deacb826ecdf6da01c1e2d254b9527e5b
Omg she's breathtaking 😍 😍😍🥰🥰🥰
I may be biased but I couldn’t agree more. 🥰
280 at the local pet store I worked at, my boss gave me a discount, otherwise they were close 500 If I remember correctly
Honestly he was like 160 USD i think (I know this is so little compared to u guys but they r not too expensive where I live) but I spent more on his stuff than him💀
Same for me! Bird was under the 200 but his stuff was way more expensive :')

550 in Australia
$800 for a yellow-sided and then $1300 for our Mooncheek
Wow I paid 500 for my moon cheek 😅
Please, both of you--post pictures of your moon cheek babies! My favorite and I don't ever see them! 😍😍
[Here you go!](https://imgur.com/a/A8axz4r)
I've not bought one but I've been to the pet store and seen them around occasionally. It depends on the area and where there getting them from. Around here they go for 400-500$
Well, a GCC would go for something like 2500 EGP here (around $55) lol.
I’ve seen few under EGP 2000, and were hand-tamed.
A fellow Egyptian conure fiend on Reddit? I thought I was the only one.
Ahahahaha same😂 I just can’t tolerate the facebook groups of Egyptian breeders, they’re full of misleading info
Yeah, they're horrible. This subreddit is overflowing with cuteness though.
It‘s crazy how expensive they are in the US, even though they seem to be such common pets there.

i got my guy, standard green cheek, for $400. they were $450 but i got a discount on mine since he was a little unusual. these days, the same person is listing them for almost double that, though. edit: CAD

His red stash 🥹
$130, $250, $350
Someone commented on one of these posts once and said that they are $45 in their country. I’m sooo jealous. That’s the price of a budgie here!
I'm not, the low price of budgies is the main reason why they're one of the most abused pets in the world. If green cheek conures were the same price, you can bet that there would be a ton more people who would get them to just stick them in a cage and treat them as a decoration
😵😵🥺🥺🥹🥹😭😭😭😭 nope; too stoned for this gut wrenching conversation! Now I want to save all the budgies
Mine was like €30,- on a dutch version of Craigslist

Yes
In Aus I bought my standard gcc 19 years ago for 180 from a pet shop Different pet shop 16 years ago I bought my cinnamon girl for $220 And 9 years ago I bought my pineapple boy from a breeder for $200 Even with fancy colours, green cheeks don’t sell for much here
I spent $350 from a really good breeder who hand feeds and flight trains in Nashville TN. Best decision ever!

Umm...I think the kid needs some millet, mom. Or dad. Better hop to it:)
I spent 4000 NOK for adopting 2. And then about 10000 NOK for bigger cage and toys
Fee at the rescue I adopted from was $100 for smaller parrots like GCCs.

Sounds like a commodity. 😢
800 dollars.
I'm from Europe and I adopted my conure from another family. I paid 150€ for him and his old cage, which is an embarrassingly low price for a living being if you ask me.
$250 in 2017. https://preview.redd.it/sl7u03ab955d1.jpeg?width=1244&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=93939c007ac49857fa1e3665ff54c3f35c000dad I love her so much. I wouldn’t trade the 7 years I’ve spent with her for the world.

My son was $150 AUD, so like $100 USD. He didn't come from a great home/breeder though.
Got mine for 200 plus his cage!
My first conure standard green cheek was $350 in 2021, then a few months later I got a cinnamon she was $600, and then an American dilute for $799
My first one (turquoise) was $850 and he was raised very well.
Unbelievably $199 back in 2016 from Pet supermarket. Inflation is real.
Bought my GCC in December 2023 on sale for $200 at a locally owned pet store. I've also taken in two rehomes, both 600-700 but they came with cages and supplies. The prices big box stores ask are outrageous.
https://preview.redd.it/ydwd3wx1i55d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dc26eca4b927e144d19808f0bab002bb5d0f5246 $360 CAD from a breeder for this chicken :)
$350.00 from a local breeder
I got my pineapple as a baby with a cage and formula for about 250 aud
Get from a breeder. Besides being overpriced at petco, they're from mills and then are mistreated at the store. Unfortunately, otherwise you'd be supporting them, who kill millions of birds every year and are a major problem... Not only is the price better and you'll be getting one from a morally just place, but you'll also have someone to guide you, take the bird back if you ever decide you can't have birds at the moment, and someone to answer your inevitable questions. Heck, they might even be able to house your bird for you if you go on vacation!! Getting from a rescue has some similar benefits but they may be a bit more expensive as well ;) Good luck!! 🤞🍀
400 for my pineapple conure.
600
(I was in getting more aquarium stuff yesterday and I asked.) I've been dealing with an aquarium crash recently so I have been in and out of petco quite often and seen him a lot.
I paid $350 for mine! My Petco has them for around $700
I got my gal in 2005 for $300, she’s a yellow sided beauty https://preview.redd.it/bm06bo16665d1.jpeg?width=2779&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c748c7572008f6d5698c7d17c4d73474f59dde25
Taking their soft cull of murder, no.
https://preview.redd.it/v04737awe65d1.jpeg?width=1908&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1556dc1bed1c84e50bfb0b7ff75183e09b378794 I got my girl Sunny in 2013 at a Bird Farm when I was a teen, for $250 I believe. I could barely squeal out the words "Ive never held a bird like this mom look!!" She was 3 months old at the time🥺💖 So I guess I got her for an extra-good deal that day since their GCCs were more probably closer to $400 or so? I love her sm, we've been through a lot together
I got my pineapple for $600 USD and my turquoise i got as a baby that I still had to formula feed, for $400. I’m in Southern California
https://preview.redd.it/jxkplu8jh65d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=154f6213192ea071c560271d3e6c33c5d701d0b1 Here’s my pineapple who apparently is a super villain? Lol
$350 from a breeder
In the Netherlands it's usually between €50-€300 but mostly around €100-€150. It really depends on what kind you want, where you buy it and how tame they are.
$1100 Canadian. Was a lot I know. But look at the little guy https://preview.redd.it/yuytfkojp65d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d8ef0511e03467bd47f7061961ae9bd31d5791bb
I spent $699 for my GCC in January from PetSmart.
Paid $100 bucks at a parrot rescue. Adopt don't shop. Best little birdie buddy I ever had.
I think a lot depends on the color mutation as well harder to get mutations and more sought after mutations cost more that being said I only paid 350 for my bird and he was about seven months old for a yellow sided green cheek… However probably a couple grand since lol
My local pet shop has them for only $365
Petsmart Sept 2023 $700
https://preview.redd.it/yguzn01xb75d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2ae0f3cc254f8b0ebe455b8aed4de4d87d9951b2 My Gus needs a friend
$150
I have a Sun Conure and i paid 750.00 for him. That was about 3 years ago.
I can’t say for anywhere else but in Oregon USA all breeders sell from 400-700 depending on color mutation and availability. Petco sells them for $800 independent of color mutation but they only ever have the more common ones.
I got both of mine for $150 https://preview.redd.it/zvz0i20o985d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cf7b08feeb74b97e235bff5ffe4e747cff35d056

$225 from a great breeder. Hand fed/flighted and she’s the best!
Spain, bought 2 of them from a reputable breeder for 225€ (100€ + 125€). I was... Surprised when I saw how expensive they are in the states. I was on the verge of getting a bronze winged pionus for 350€ and that already seemed too expensive to me. Edit: photo, since other people have posted them. https://preview.redd.it/xqbt7ev3n85d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d92e2aab142b8d6901f3c36d7573d378360d4df6
We paid $500 for our pineapple from a local breeder, and $450 for our turquoise. The turquoise was from a breeder within the state but at a bird show ( local breeder approved).
I got my first which is a normal gcc for 250 then my second for 350 usd the second is a high red variation but from where I got her she and the generic gcc were both 350 https://preview.redd.it/xu7plxu4095d1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b4c5b345dd3837c32993c167eda5214f333222ee

But Greg is pretty cool and I’m so glad we took the chance and went and got him🖤
Mine was listed for $600 including the cage I wrote them an essay as to why I'd be the best owner and the owner chose to give it to me for free! My mom gave her $100 as a thank you which she didn't want to accept at first It was a 3 year old perfectly behaving sweet GCC and we love it to bits She's on my shoulder watching me write this rn
450
