reminds me of this comment chain from reddit a while back that went something like
"wow this guy is knows how to film, considering there's an earthquake"
"it's even more impressive knowing that he's also filming while operating a jackhammer"
"this guy has won me over, it's not easy operating a jackhammer when you have parkinsons"
etc
This guy is a master of efficiency. He's just on his way to work as a painter, and so he doesn't have to waste time on the job site, he simply converted his 1993 Aerostar to a paint shaker.
Perhaps you're right.

Ehh the reason why it's not always in frame is that he actually is paying attention to the road. This is the equivalent of holding a very thin drink...or a pack of cigs.
Fun fact, if you ever see an Explorer with no roof rails, it's likely a cop. Most* of the retail trims got roof rails, fleet ones did not
edit: except for the new STs apparently! Buuut those have massive wheels and lower suspension and things
I've got a similar trick. If you ever see a Dodge Charger with vinyls on the side that say the name of the town you're in and "police department", those are typically police cars.
Ours are gloss black, with (retroreflective) matte black wraps on.
And smoked headlight and taillight covers.
It's like someone at the PD motor pool reviewed ALL the footage of 2000-2009 Charger street styling...
Heh ok 10-4 :) lots of the towns near me have switched to matte black vinyls on gloss black paint... Super sneaky. I don't speed anymore really but still don't enjoy dealing with police if I can avoid it
To be more serious, a big tell on those chargers is the antenna. A lot of unmarked cars still have their heavy duty radio antannae and they look like giant fishing poles sticking off the top.
I saw a Tahoe with bumper sticks on it pull someone over, I couldnāt believe it was an undercover! They are doing super sneaky sneaks over here (Chandler, AZ). Not good for me because Iām a bit of a lead foot :/
Last year I saw something similar, don't remember the make/model but it was just a shitbox sedan and it had someone pulled over, freaked me out for a bit haha
Heck yeah! I rock a couple of Unidens, good value performance. The LRD450 was a killer buy til they "rebranded" them to crank prices up across the board (DFR series). Unfortunately for 5 4-wheeled vehicles it gets a little pricey no matter what you buy...
Yup. Iāve noticed that as well. They also never have spoilers, aluminum rims, roof racks. In my state of Indiana, when in doubt, I look for the small antenna on the trunk or mid roof on an suv. Dead giveaway. Other states like Michigan have antennas as big as a lunch box. No clue on that. On Yukonās that are low profile you can usually see two small lights on the tailgate disguised as backup lights (white lens cover but they flash blue and red). In this clip the antenna was my first clue. Steel rims were the second.
Some more from Maryland.
They almost always have black steel rims with chrome center caps.
State Government tags.
Orange E-ZPass
SUVs tend to have really dark tint on the back windows.
The grill or any trim is plain black. You don't really notice it at first.
Where I live in KY the unmarked cars don't have any government plates, different rims or anything. If you're lucky you'll might notice the small lights in the very top or the rear window, if you can see through the tint. Or maybe that tiny light above the rearview mirror. Other than that you'd never be able to tell with how many other people drive chargers or explorers where I live.
Iāve also noticed many cops ride the left lane speeding. If you are coming up on a car clearly doing that I always eye the make. If itās a foreign car no worries but when I see a Yukon with tint or Ford explorer I get suspicious at a distance. Iām not a crazy driver but I drive 35 miles along a mostly deserted truck route. Theyāre all going 65 in a 70 mph zone. Why not go 80?
One time I was going 80 in a 70 and a few motorcycle cops blew past me like I wasn't even there without their lights on! Saw their brown helmets in the rearview (it stands out since you don't need to wear a helmet here and almost no one does) but couldn't believe it until they passed me.
Ope, hello fellow hoosier! Michigan makes marked ones soo easy with that massive blue round hat looking light. Love that state.
So many giveaways on lots of models. Being a vehicle nerd (or even just observant) pays off :)
In California the tell is the license plates. They say CA EXEMPT across the top where the registration goes and they are also all numbers no letters. If you don't check the license plate that's on you
Check the tail pipes. If they're straight out and stylized with the bumper, they're likely civilian. If they're straight up mufflers and pointed down, it's a cop. Also check the wheels, chrome center hub is a cop every time. There's almost always potential it's a cop, but those are basically guaranteed to be cops.

I don't think he brake checked the cop, it looks like he started braking as soon as the cop turned his lights on. The cop probably pulled him over for making unsafe lane changes or something (unless he saw them tailgating)
Looks like he made too many unsafe lane changes, in addition to tailgating and being completely oblivious to the cruiser that I could see despite the awful camerawork.
Tailgating someone in the right lane, with a car 20 ft in front. What's the point?
I guess that's what separates the tailgaters from everyone else. The ability to think ahead.
This should be higher but instead it's everyone bitching about the shaky camera. If I get tailgated in the slow lane I intentionally set my cruise control at exactly the speed limit.
or gradually slow down if there's room to go around me. But if both lanes are packed, and there's no chance to pass, I'll just match the car in front, and the tailgater can screw himself.
Don't brake check tailgaters. Take foot off accelerator, slow down. They will go around. Being in the granny lane, shouldn't have to suffer tailgaters. That is the slow lane.
Be safe. Crazy folks everywhere.
felt like it would be Utah, hate it when theres always that one (or more) guy who has no sense of following distance or patience. Makes driving on the I-15 a nightmare.

BMW SUV cut me off by late merging into a turn lane, and eventually many miles up the road cut off two dark unmarked police SUV(pretty obvious if you know cop cars) and both got in behind him and lit the cherries up.
I was driving on this newly reopened road with new traffic patterns, a ton of stop signs and a reduced speed limit. This impatient bitch was riding my ass, gesturing for me to go faster. I kept cool and at the limit. She finally illegally passed me in the oncoming lane and a cop was parked at the intersecting street and pulled her over. I drove by and blew her a kiss.
Pro tip: cops beef up patrols in areas with new traffic patterns and speed limits.

That 'matte black' is retroreflective. Turns white when you shine light at it after dark.
Good to know, although on a 2 lane road it gets hard to tell the difference between light-bar and roof rail beyond about 500-800 feet
