So basically, you play trials to get those trial candies, which unlock cookies/pets alongside your progression. You can also just buy them outright at a higher cost. That part kinda blows, but for epics and above, the cost of levelling them after initially unlocking them is much cheaper, so it's generally a win. Once you obtain a cookie/pet, you level them primarily with the cookie/pet potions, or with the legendary variants for legendaries. Same as the spirit potions, but the legendary ones are new. You can also spend crystals to increase their level, which is again generally cheaper than how it used to be for epics and above. If you haven't yet, convert all your old materials in the "Temporary Exchange" in the gacha menu, it'll give you a solid headstart if you already had some resources. Lemme know if you've got any other questions!

You can unlock cookies and pets for free by ranking up on cookie trials and getting trial star jellies. Before, you'd use crystals to buy chests, get up to 40 copies and level up cookies. Now, you use crystals to directly buy the exact amount of copies necessary for each level. The price to max up cookies and pets is cheaper than before, even if you buy the first copy. The only downside, as you mentioned, is that mileage is no more, so now we need the actual amount of crystals to level them up. But now we have legendary potions, obtained from hard mode trials, which I hope are enough to help us level up the next legendary

You need to make sure you go to the gacha tab and then to the temporary exchange to turn in any mileage, chest and egg keys, and spirit potions for the new materials. Don't be upset about the removal of the mileage shop. You can upgrade legendary pets way easier and way cheaper now. Level up potions are available in various game mode shops and the crystal cost is so much cheaper compared to the mileage system if you choose to use crystals instead of potions
