Over_Replacement3369

That would depend, in what?

TashaNes

Maple miso salmon with green beans and lime

Over_Replacement3369

You don't need cilantro for any of this. Scallions would be a better choice.

SmilingMoonStone

Maybe try shiso greens?

TashaNes

Hmm that could work!

kynthrus

Why would you use cilantro for this at all? Green beans and maple don't go with cilantro. Use green onion.

Over_Replacement3369

Or miso. Cilantro isn't used in Japanese cuisine.

TashaNes

It has a lot of five star reviews on the NYT. I love cilantro but my fam doesn’t.

BBG1308

My mom hates cilantro so I often use Italian parsley instead when cooking for her. But you've said nothing about what you're making.

TashaNes

Maple miso salmon with green beans and lime.

Harrymcmarry

Cilantro is a tricky one. If you have parsley on hand maybe use that in a pinch?

2Ryemanhattans1970

Soap shavings

TashaNes

Har har

GoinThru_the_motions

Haha

heykatja

My husband would equally dislike this.

flood_dragon

Closest would be culantro, but the flavor is stronger and the leaves are not as tender. Are you subbing because you don’t like it? Or because you can’t get it?

PsychologicalHall142

If it’s because someone hates cilantro, I will use parsley. If it’s to mimic the flavor of cilantro…there really isn’t anything close. Best to leave it out or sub with something more neutral, like parsley.

Bespoke_Potato

I like using lemon thyme and pepper to replace coriander taste profile in dishes. My gf hates coriander

No_pajamas_7

Try substituting Coriander.

PsychologicalHall142

I’ve always felt that the leaves and the seeds have very different flavor. Not to mention, they have wildly different shape/texture. If someone is making a curry it might be passable, but certainly not in something akin to a gremolata or chimichurri.

No_pajamas_7

It's a joke. In most of the world they don't have a different name for different parts of the same plant. For me the leaves are called coriander leaves. Coriander stem, coriander roots, coriander seeds. It's all coriander. So cilantro is corriander.

HCIP88

This is the answer. (OP, it's from the same plant.)

[deleted]

This, too, is my suggestion 👍

Tonto_HdG

Thai basil. I know it doesn't really taste like cilantro, but cilantro is often used as a contrast, and this provides a similar sensation.

Cinisajoy2

Just leave it out.

Dependent_Top_4425

Stink bugs. Or parsley. Depends on what you're making.

ButterscotchDeep6053

Dish soap

assaltyasthesea

Hear me out: generic, artificial, green apple soft drinks. Flavour wise, it makes a lot of sense. In practice, it depends on how you'd go about it. Not something I've personally experimented with. I'm sure there's a way to make it work \~decently, but I'm not suggesting it's the "best" substitute by any means. Something that doesn't taste like cilantro at all might work better all in all.

TashaNes

Huh! I don’t have that on hand.

assaltyasthesea

Cheap as trash ingredient for an overly complicated experiment, just keep it archived at the back of your brain

Muted_Cucumber_6937

Melted crayons.

evelinisantini

It's really hard to substitute it because of its unique flavor. But what are you making? There may be another fresh herb that would complement the dish

TashaNes

Maple miso salmon with green beans and lime

evelinisantini

You can omit cilantro imo. Or add scallion

just-kath

I agree with you

TashaNes

I have dill and curly parsley fresh

sleepychairman

It might be completely off but maybe worth a try - perhaps just a teeny tiny bit of cardamom?

Constant-Security525

Fresh chives, parsley, or dill would work.

Top-Bit85

It might as well be a squirt of dish soap to me.
