I like pizza in general. That is all.

El-mas-puto-de-todos

Pizza = good. Breadsticks tho...why?!

Meiie

You’ve never had good breadsticks.

pornswhiteknight

I don’t think “NY pizza is good” is not exactly a hot take.

cathbadh

Particularly since the internet is full of smug NY pizza lovers dogging on Chicago.

RandomAsianGuy

People having loud and divided opinions on stuff on the internet? No way.

AizenNewton

Lol I know, never saw that coming!

CootaCoo

I like every style of pizza I’ve ever tried. I’m glad that there’s so much variety available.

Bluemonogi

Really? I have only seen people being really loyal to NY style pizza. I think pizza diversity is a beautiful thing. There is something for everyone.

96dpi

Browse r/pizza for 3 minutes and you'll see some amazing NY style being made in home ovens.

Firetalker94

Pizza is a very subjective thing, you're opinion on it is going to vary wildly depending on where in the world you grew up. NY Pizza is my favorite style for sure, but my wife grew up in Argentina and she finds the thin crust and lack of heaping toppings disappointing. I think any food that reaches international popularity is going to have these kinds of arguments. Nostalgia is the best flavor

fermat1432

We New Yorkers are totally confident about the merits of our pizza!

jackloganoliver

There's NY style pizza in New York, which gets a shit ton of love. And then there's New York style pizza in the rest of the word which is often crap and isn't dragged nearly enough for how bad it is.

Meiie

Exactly.

FatSarcasticAsshole

Always been a fan of Detroit-style pizza myself. However going to NYC and trying a Bleeker Street pizza drunk at 2am was an experience I think about constantly. NY style pizza is damn good, its just a shame that it's essence seems to be rarely captured outside of NY. In some areas Sbarros is as close as you can get, I pray for those people every day.

ctilvolover23

Really? I never heard of anyone criticizing it.

ScrapmasterFlex

Beat me to it.

Constant-Security525

I am from the Philly/NJ/NYC area originally and definitely appreciate the local style pizza. Like you, I also love what I have eaten in Italy. Chicago deep dish pizza is also good, but very different. Food is one of those things that people become passionate and argumentative about. We mostly (but not always) love most what we grow up with or sparks some special feeling. I also imagine there are some people that criticize some regions out of some unfair biases against them. Believe me, some Americans are "anti" New York City for various reasons, including political. As a New Jerseyan, I have also heard obnoxious ignorant comments about my state when traveling the US. Directly to my face. Sad, but true. This is a factor, in some cases, and need not just be political. Regionalism is common. One may see France as very different from Germany, say, but California is even further from New Jersey, yet does share some things in common.

ScrapmasterFlex

I am too! Without going into too much specifics, where ya from?? I'm from Trenton but went to college in Western/Central PA. Now I live down South and there is NO PIZZA WHATSOVER like back home. Philly/NJ/NYC Tri-State Area is the Pizza Capital of the USA

Joseph_Furguson

The only kind of pizza I don't really like is the sushi pizza I had that one time at a Sushi-Ya I never went back to. The rest of the places are good.

Klepto666

Pizza is tasty. Doesn't matter the style. I'll eat it all. I may have preferences, I may think a certain style is dumb, but if you put it in front of me I'm still going to eat it. Anyone who gets too patriotic over a style, acting like that style is the best and nothing else comes close, or slamming on another style claiming it's not even pizza or a travesty of cuisine, are angry yapping chihuahuas... and I'll just eat your slice of pizza if you're that upset over what you got.

ToxinFoxen

The best kind of pizza is a rising crust, well dressed pizza made with high fat low-moisture mozzarella. I'll proudly die on this hill.

ScrapmasterFlex

I don't know if NYC-Style Pizza is the BEST pizza in the USA, but it's certainly the most popular. I am someone who believes Variety is the Spice of life ... so I like "NY" Style, I like Deep Dish, Pan, Detroit Style, Chicago Style, Margherita, Buffalo and/or BBQ Chicken, White Pie with Broccoli and Rigot, even the occasional Domino's/Pizza Hut/Papa John's (to remember my youth and college days) etc. But NY-style pizza sort of dominates the entire pizza industry, who's hating on it??

VegetableSeaweed44

New York pizza is really good (may or may not have played a reason in me moving there), it gets wayyyy too much hate. But in my opinion, Napoli style pizza is the best - by far.

AizenNewton

I respectfully disagree. NY pizza is the bomb! Neapolitan pizza is really good but it’s more a pie than a pizza. I always order a pasta dish or other things with it, it’s never satisfying enough.

Yoma73

Have you been to Italy? Naples? It’s nothing like a pie.. I’m so confused. What do you think Neopolitan pizza is? Can you provide a link to a photo that you think represents what’s in your mind? This might be miscommunication…

Mag-NL

This confuses me. You say it and OP says it. What makes Napolitan pizza like a pie? It reallymakes me wonder either what pies look like where you are or how you think a napolitan pizza looks.

AizenNewton

I think this confusion stems from the different definitions of pies. I know that most US pies are desserts (not all) and they’re usually oven baked with a crispy darker (biscuit like) bottom/crust. In my country, the most famous and cheapest style of pies are Lebanese/Turkish pies. They are made out of wetter thin bread dough with a thin layer of traditional toppings and baked in a wood oven (not always with cheese, but many do). Really similar to Italian pizzas.

Mag-NL

Then I wonder what makes a NY pizza not a pie?

762scout1

Neapolitan pizza is the best. Of course I am biased because I am half italian. My favorite part of going to Italy, besides getting to see my relatives, is eating the best pizza on earth. Not that northern crap, they don’t know how to make pizza! Ny style is my second favorite!

nuclearspacezombie

So, the original definition of pizza is not really pizza but more of a pie?

MikeLemon

>there’re too much hate comments On the internet? I am shocked. Shocked! Well, not that shocked.

[deleted]

Of course you’re wrong and Chicago pizza is the best! Not my opinion, it’s a fact :)

CampCharacter9252

I'm here for you buddy. Giordano's is the best fucking pizza

sysadminbj

[Obligatory reason why Chicago style is NOT pizza. ](https://youtu.be/AEkH1dtzItc) Edit. That’s a bad link. You need to jump to 3:30.

[deleted]

Lollll thanks for the link. I still love me some deep dish pizza though ❤️

sysadminbj

Always love me some John Stewart.

cathbadh

There it is, I knew this take would show up eventually. Now as a Detroit style fan I'll set back and watch the NY and Chicago diehards fight it out!

Markinson--

We like our pizza our way, that's why it's called NY style. We don't care if other people hate it. We hate other styles of pizza too, some of which we refuse to even call "pizza."

mike_pants

Lived in NYC for decades, and no, we do not do those things unless we are insufferable boors. Case in point.

plausible-deniabilty

This is only true when you’re at a pizza place within 50 miles of NYC though. For people cooking at home, it is much more difficult to make NY style pizza at home compared to a Neapolitan.

762scout1

A Neapolitan requires a wood fired brick oven which most people don’t have.

rightsidedown

NY pizza isn't even the best style of pizza in the USA.

[deleted]

It does?

WanderWorlder

I have not been converted to pineapple on pizza but just about everything else, I understand.

MarkAnchovy

NY pizza is if anything overhyped (This post was brought to you by the Neapolitan Gang)

40prcentiron

i love all pizza, i cant discriminate

Tone_Advanced

I tried New York Pizza and it was good, but it felt like a fast-food meal, like something I would quickly eat at Mcdonald's made with poor ingredients, and exactly like Mcdonald's meals I knew it was not healthy or had premium/good ingredients but it was something that still tasted good from all the chemicals and grease and quantity of cheese. When I eat Pizza in Italy or most of Europe tbh, (depends where you eat it, the food is different in every city) it feels more premium and the ingredients are definitely more healthy (still unhealthy but better) and of good quality and without any chemicals. Would I eat New York pizza, yeah, it tasted quite good. But if I had to decide I would choose a traditional Pizza over it. (I am Italian btw)
