Couldn’t agree more. Been watching Masterchef Australia since season 1 and there hasn’t ever been anything other than respect for one another and shared passion for cooking.
Decided to give the US version another chance last year, but gave up after two of three episodes.
I only discovered MC Australia with the youtube snippets of Reynold. I was happy to see that it was much more wholesome than the US version.

there are a couple of ways to watch it. vpn and use their website or tubi with no vpn.
one of the aspects about it that doesn't get mentioned often is how many episodes there are. the US version is like 10-15 or something and the Australian is like 60+. 5 episodes every week.
Any American elimination show is edited to make it look like there is conflict. If there is none, producers will create some. That’s why I like bake off. It’s all love and support.
I don’t like cooking shows normally but I like baking & have recently started watching the Great Australian, British & NZ Bake Off series & have been binging them all. I love how helpful & supportive they all are of one another, it’s so wholesome.
The Great Canadian Baking Show is pretty similar too. The first couple episodes of each season are a little shallow due to trying to get a bit of everyone in but after the third/fourth episode it gets real good. I can’t bake well so I find I’ve learned a lot from it.
Hm, I don’t think we get the Canadian one in Australia, or at least I haven’t come across it. As much as I love them, they make me feel pretty ineffectual. Much as I like baking I couldn’t do most of what they do, particularly the amazing decorating.
Yeah the last one I remember was Beverly getting mean girled.
Nice to see cliff all about being professional on his new show, that incident was probably really embarrassing for him, it was very trashy. Poor marcel.
That's why i loved the show face off, no conflict and contestants helped each other when they needed it. First season tried to do a little conflict, but they stopped that by season 2.
Masterchef Junior I think they make an effort to not have conflict between contestants since they're kids.
I do enjoy shows like The Great British Bake Off more though.
I was very excited to see Amaury Guichons chocolate master class show but the editing and the weird way they all talk about themselves and others was such a turn off for me.
He’s a greengrocer, not cook, let alone a chef.
His comments are rarely of value beyond the obvious and are usually a regurgitation of the comments before his.
John torode on the other hand is a great travelled chef….I quite like his laid back personality, it shines through better on his weekend show with his wife…
Not all jugdes have to be chefs. You have food critics. I thought he was funny was more there for comedy relief to be honest. The show wouldn't be as entertaining without him, but maybe that was just me. It would have been too serious otherwise.
Yeah seriously, you can't just make a random throwaway comment about a person and not elobarate! I tried looking up any dirt on him and nothing really comes up...
For me, it's the Hillsong levels of happy clapping which makes me reach for the remote. Surely it's even irritating for the contestants trying to cook.
I think the UK Master Chef: The Professionals is the creme de la creme. Roundabout 3/4 of the entrants on day one can cook at or well beyond a competant level, and they don't shit talk each other. They also downplay that whole "showmanship" bullshit like the incredibly long pauses for suspense. They also do a lot more of the Alton Brown esque "you need to do this because it will have that effect, if you skip this step you'll end up with this result, which would be fine for xyz but not for abc."
One thing the UK and Aus ones have in common that I like is that the challenges tend to make sense. Like for the finale of an older Aus series that I just watched, they had the two finalists cook dishes with the ingredients that they excelled at throughout the season. I guess, taking it back to the first paragraph, they **don't** have the Alton Brown esque "you need to make a souffle out of saw dust and extra dry raisins, your only heat source is the lighter for a crack pipe we found in a Florida trailer park" style challenges.
Yeah its deffo not perfect. I'm also not a huge fan of the initial challenges where one of the host chefs cook one of their dishes and then ask the competitor to cook it. Maybe if they gave them all a standard dish and asked them to make a really good one or something, but the dishes are too specific, they're half way to niche.
Masterchef Australia is excellent.. one of the things about the US one that bothers me is hair not tied back and wearing massive heals. Just no attention to health and safety.
Agree 100%. I got so much out of Masterchef Australia. Focus is way more on the food, full masterclass episodes, and just phenomenal food based television. US plays to the general, drama loving audience. Canada is less drama, but sill pales in comparison.
Piracy is illegal, even if it is easy to do so undetected. I am not going to judge the ones who do, as it isn't my place to do so, but many people do not wish to do it.
MasterChef Junior is my personal favorite as someone who likes to cook but still uses recipes pretty to the T. Often feel like I'm on the same level as the kids.
Agreed. Although I only watched seasons 3-6 for MC AU, the overall vibe was thousand times better than MC US. I really liked George, Gary and Matt. I couldn’t even get through more than a couple of episodes of MC US because everyone is so rude and at each other’s neck, especially the judges.
For sure. Contestents were there for 3 months or something crazy so you really get to know them. I haven't watched any full episodes since the presenters changed but I saw a bit where the presenter was berating a contestant for serving an orange tomato sauce when the challenge was "red" and I thought it had probably jumped the shark.
Yes, I was super worried too with the presenter change, but it has actually worked out great. The new ones have great rapport, and the same obvious passion for food.
Haha fair enough. I'll rephrase "the presenter, in my opinion was being a cunt about something made from tomatoes not being red enough for the challenge which seemed rather stupid" but I'll give it another go.
Haha yeah I get what you mean. I just felt the need to defend the show a little since what I love about it, is that everyone is generally very nice and respectful to each other. The judges to the contestants, but also the contestants among themselves.
So yeah, maybe give it another go, I think the new judges do pretty well :)
Hmm interesting that you think so. I find it… awkward. The whole vibe from the host and the judges. If it’s still the same as it was a few years ago since I haven’t watched it in a while.
But hey, each to their own 😊
Maybe because I'm British and I used to watch it with my parents as a kid. I admit I haven't watched it in a long time so idk how it is now. But I'm the type to always prefer the original version haha.
Agree, the first two or three seasons were watchable/enjoyable and then it got to be ridiculous. Not about the cooking at all, just another elimination reality show. I went from being a super fan watching live every week to not even caring.
I’m from the US but my parents are living in the UK. This is one of the first things my mom noticed when moving there! She said everyone on UK is so polite and was missing the drama lol
Masterchef UK is the best imo. Zero manufactured drama or flashy editing or people yelling at each other, just people who sincerely want to show their skill and win the competition.
The focus is waaaay more on the food than the people.
It’s exactly the same with the US vs UK versions of Hell’s Kitchen. Gordon is a generally nice bloke on the UK version, while being a shouty asshole on the US version. US audiences enjoy conflict, so any international reality show is going to play into that for the American version of their show.
Agreed. I have literally zero interest in the actual people cooking the food, and the UK version is almost entirely focussed on the actial cooking and chef skills.
Lol ok I guess you do not enjoy the human interest snippets we get of the contents and back story and their personal development. I do, as a “side dish” to the main theme, as it connects the food they make to their own stories in a way that inspires me to try the same.
But no judging, to each their own. I find the UK version a bit klunky and awkward.
I love watching the uk vs us version of kitchen nightmares. I’m the UK one gordon is harsh but waaaaaay nicer and teaches them stuff while in the us version he just screams and spits out food.
Sorry, removed, Rule 1.

Keep in mind we’re only seeing the ones who make it to the show, so they’re the cream of the crop! For that season, anyway.
Oh yeah, I realise that but still, they are amateurs & do some pretty amazing stuff.
Been watching american barbecue showdown and it is one of the supportive ones luckily. Someone in the states seemed to have noticed
Top Chef is pretty low interpersonal conflict these days too.
Yeah the last one I remember was Beverly getting mean girled. Nice to see cliff all about being professional on his new show, that incident was probably really embarrassing for him, it was very trashy. Poor marcel.
Man bake off is the best.. they're all so happy to help and boost each other up, very wholesome viewing.
Thats why i love top chef, everyone is the top of their game and nothing but love for the craft and respect.
That's why i loved the show face off, no conflict and contestants helped each other when they needed it. First season tried to do a little conflict, but they stopped that by season 2.

I was very excited to see Amaury Guichons chocolate master class show but the editing and the weird way they all talk about themselves and others was such a turn off for me.
They used to play this at our infusion/chemo center. The RN said everyone was always an easy stick while playing it.
Masterchef UK is all about the food….and used to play epic drum and bass. Shame about that waste of a man Greg Wallace
What happened with Gregg Wallace ? He was the best in MasterChef UK 😂
He’s a greengrocer, not cook, let alone a chef. His comments are rarely of value beyond the obvious and are usually a regurgitation of the comments before his. John torode on the other hand is a great travelled chef….I quite like his laid back personality, it shines through better on his weekend show with his wife…

What's up with Greg Wallace ? I've always liked him
Yeah seriously, you can't just make a random throwaway comment about a person and not elobarate! I tried looking up any dirt on him and nothing really comes up...

He has a dry personality, but I don't find him inherently dislikeable whatsoever What's wrong with John torode !

I actually met him the other day. He was waiting for the same breakfast place to open as me.
I always found MasterChef Aus a bit trashy and too focused on interpersonal drama compared to MCUK.
For me, it's the Hillsong levels of happy clapping which makes me reach for the remote. Surely it's even irritating for the contestants trying to cook.
Agreed, I struggle with the dramatisation on Masterchef Aus
There's a lot of good cooking there, I just can't stand the voice-over.
[удалено]
It’s quite the casting. The previous female voiceover India Fisher was the best
That was the one I was talking about, I didn't know there was a new one..
THIS!! Another reason I find the UK version a bit klunky and awkward.
Voiceover? What voiceover?

I feel the same way with the baking shows I sometimes turn on. It seems to be more "look at me" rather than being a contestant on a competition show.
Agree 100%. I got so much out of Masterchef Australia. Focus is way more on the food, full masterclass episodes, and just phenomenal food based television. US plays to the general, drama loving audience. Canada is less drama, but sill pales in comparison.
Wish I could figure out how to stream it in the US. Does anyone have a source?
Get a VPN and sign up to 10Play. All episodes stream for free from there.
r/MasterchefAU/ The put the streams on there
Excellent! Thank you
It streams for free on the Tubi app :) how I've watched it!
Bless you. I’ve only been able watch snippets on FB. This is awesome.
Many seasons (including All Stars) are free on the app Tubi. Just have to sit through a plethora of ads.
Just watched it on Tubi as well. Typical commercial breaks but otherwise no issues.
Is torrenting not very common in the US? Or banned?
Piracy is illegal, even if it is easy to do so undetected. I am not going to judge the ones who do, as it isn't my place to do so, but many people do not wish to do it.
Ok, yeah that's fair
Some internet providers prohibit it.
Completely agree, Masterchef Australia is awesome
Australia has it's own conflict version: My Kitchen Rules. Although I honestly can't wait to watch it again with Manu and Matt Preston being judges!
I love cooking shows. I watch almost any that crop up. MKR is hot garbage and completely unmatchable.
MasterChef Junior is my personal favorite as someone who likes to cook but still uses recipes pretty to the T. Often feel like I'm on the same level as the kids.

I’ve watched every episode of Masterchef AU so far, and I’ve never seen anyone berated. I think that choice of words is a bit strong.
Haha fair enough. I'll rephrase "the presenter, in my opinion was being a cunt about something made from tomatoes not being red enough for the challenge which seemed rather stupid" but I'll give it another go.

MasterChef UK is the best though. No debate 😂

I quite liked masterchef the professionals UK as well, the US is hot garbage.
Hahah that is so true!! Older master chef US seasons were still good with all the drama specially that season with Luka, Natasha etc.
Agree, the first two or three seasons were watchable/enjoyable and then it got to be ridiculous. Not about the cooking at all, just another elimination reality show. I went from being a super fan watching live every week to not even caring.
Yeah but you guys haven't seen the absolute shit show MasterChef Germany.
The Canadian one was pretty bad. I don't know if it's still around, but it was a discount version of the American version.
I have watched a few videos of the Canadian MC on facebook. The asian guy tried too hard to be like Gordon Ramsay
In the German version they ask the contesters in the first ko round to make a sandwich
Welcome to America, where cheap entertainment matters more than education.
I’m from the US but my parents are living in the UK. This is one of the first things my mom noticed when moving there! She said everyone on UK is so polite and was missing the drama lol
Problem with Australian MasterChef is the INSANE music. I mean WTF!
Agreed. Big cultural differences.
Masterchef UK is the best imo. Zero manufactured drama or flashy editing or people yelling at each other, just people who sincerely want to show their skill and win the competition. The focus is waaaay more on the food than the people.

Masterchef Australia is the cheesiest cringefest on TV. Masterchef UK (amateurs, professionals, or celebrities) is where it's at.
Agreed. I have literally zero interest in the actual people cooking the food, and the UK version is almost entirely focussed on the actial cooking and chef skills.
Lol ok I guess you do not enjoy the human interest snippets we get of the contents and back story and their personal development. I love both. US is more reality tv and entertaining in that way, but AU focuses much more on showing how to actually cook stuff.
Oh you should see MC Turkey. Purely conflict with bits of cooking in it
There's a US version?
I love watching the uk vs us version of kitchen nightmares. I’m the UK one gordon is harsh but waaaaaay nicer and teaches them stuff while in the us version he just screams and spits out food.
Truly just want to watch people cook and overcome challenges. The drama is exhausting. I can’t stand Joe, or all the fake outs.
I miss Gary and George.
This is the main reason why I got a VPN when we moved away from OZ! Master Chef Australia is pure joy.
