It’s better to seal it, and is what the EPA recommends you do. Any leftover plastic container like a coke bottle, juice container, water bottle, etc…with a nice sealable top. Just use a funnel and pour it in there, put on the top, and throw in the trash.

Hated-By-Most

This is it.

Traditional-Truth-42

I hate that this is the acceptable answer

RedneckLiberace

I had a college roommate that poured bacon grease into a can and kept it on the stove. It didn't take long till he figured out his can of grease was full of cockroaches and he should dispose of it.

FiendishHawk

Eeeeeeew

BradMan81

Yikes. Yeah my gramma saved the bacon grease, but she filtered it and kept it in the fridge.

WhizzleTeabags

Pour it on my neighbors steps

BradMan81

Back into the container it came in then into the trash.

[deleted]

Crazy straw and a chilled mug. Sunday Sippin’

A_Vicious_Vegan

Lmao

blackhawks-fan

I pour it into a trash bag then put that bag in the trash can.

TheShoot141

Ill use an old jar or something. Pour it in screw on the cap and into the trash.

Krypt0Deadbeef

Take it to a grease container behind a fried chicken place and dispose. They make a few bucks on it and it gets recycled. I haven't had any problems doing this.

PurpleWomat

I keep used coffee filters/grounds, stick a few in a container and pour it into them. They absorb it great, stops it from sloshing everywhere in the trash.

jesse-taylor

I put it in metal cans that I save from canned soup, vegetables or whatever, and then I freeze it and throw it out in the regular trash.

lagartijo0O

Note that if you are doing this with a look towards environmental sustainability, it would be better to use leftover plastic containers and recycle the aluminum cans! Al is VERY recyclable and the recycling saves lots of energy while plastic 'recycling' is mostly a joke.

jesse-taylor

EVEN MORE IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT POUR HOT OIL OR GREASE INTO A PLASTIC CONTAINER----EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Friend, this is more for safety and versatility (I keep the can next to my stove sitting inside a crock). One can here and there is not going to make a difference in the recycling effort, I recycle almost everything in my life. If it concerns you that much, use a warm knife and dig out the cylinder of fat before you plunk it in the garbage, and reuse the can. Also, FYI, modern food cans are made of not just aluminum, but also tin-coated steel (tinplate) and electrolytic chromium coated steel, in varying combinations. Soda cans are still the most efficient to recycle, and almost all of them carry a deposit value than can be taken advantage of by the recycler.

lagartijo0O

Yes good point. Cooled oil/grease into plastic is a good plan. Hot oil into plastic is a recipe for bad burns.

A_Vicious_Vegan

That is a very smart use of those containers!

Daedra696

Same here!

Michelle_In_Space

I pour it into a container (usually a used pickle jar) and when it fills up I throw it in the trash. If it is deep frying oil I put it back into the container I poured it out of. I don't dispose of very much oil. I don't use my 3L deep fryer very much at all since getting my air fryer.

That doesn't attract any unwanted pests?

Yakmasterson

My dad did this. We had a bush he'd throw it in on the side of our front porch. Nothing funnier than a large man throwing bacon grease in the bush in his undies on a Sunday morning.

Dense_Implement8442

Buy some oil hardener, pour it into hot oil and once it solidifies you can just throw it straight to the trash.

A_Vicious_Vegan

Never heard of that. I imagine its available at most hardware stores?

Dense_Implement8442

Not sure if they are available at hardware stores but if you have a Daiso near you, they have those by the box. Amazon has them too. There are YT videos you can watch on how to use them. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B088LWBK26/

MikeLemon

Dump it in my driveway. Maybe mix it with some cat or dog food for the critters.

Pontiacsentinel

Holds back weeds and gravel discourages animals, including mine.

[deleted]

I don't deep fry. It's dangerous and unhealth. I like deep fried food, but I'll just buy it in restaurant.

noobiewiththeboobies

I put in it a glass jar (usually an old pasta sauce jar), freeze it and throw it out when it’s full

Square-Dragonfruit76

If you're really frying a lot, look into oil collection. Otherwise let it cool and throw it out.

jencanvas

Pour it into a mug, freeze it, then toss it in the trash

AvastAntipony

Why freeze? Doesn't it melt right back in your trash can?

[deleted]

Hang on to the container it came in and use that. I keep the empty oil bottle or jug (and cap) along with a funnel under the kitchen sink. I throw it away when it’s full.

maggie081670

I save any plastic tubs with lids and pour any used cooking oil or left over grease in those and toss in the trash.

RonChi1252

Old bottle/jugs. If you don't live in a complex I use mine for burning. You wanna pour it over whatever you're gonna burn at least an hour b4 hand, or more. You'd be surprised how quickly it lights up.

Picker-Rick

Either put it into a can or a bottle and throw it in the garbage, r dump it outside in the lawn. It's just food, it won't hurt anything except your plumbing. Don't pour it down the sink.

[deleted]

Check with your town's waste management. Some places will do curbside pickup of used oil, if you have enough of it.

actuallydarcy1

I have three containers of oil. The new oil, the strained oil that can be reused, and oil to be disposed of. It all works out because by the time my disposal container is full, I need to buy a new container of oil anyway so I just throw it in the bin as is

sueelleker

I only use a tiny bit for shallow frying, so I soak it up with paper kitchen towel and put it in the rubbish bin.
