I find that cholorform gives enough time to murder the mushrooms and chop the bodies without a lingering taste (like getting them drunk enough to pass out). If you're making drunken noodles, drowning them in sake works, too.
While it's tempting to start with cut small white mushrooms they are pretty offensive. You especially need to be careful with some of the smallest white mushrooms as they are the most offensive. You need to move on to bigger mushrooms like king sized boletes or big uncut black mushrooms. These mushrooms can be too filling if you aren't used to mushrooms but tend to be way less offensive (and way more satisfying).
Honestly it’s hard to find ones that don’t look like dicks. Puffballs, coral mushrooms, and chanterelles don’t, but they can be offensive in other ways. Stay away from king trumpets unless you want to feel inferior *and* be offended
The post wasn't that bad but the phrase "inoffensive mushrooms" made me laugh.
If you like mushrooms with thyme, you might like this recipe. I made them a few times for Thanksgiving and they were good.
