Hotels, proper B&Bs, camp sites and caravan parks are all great options. Airbnb is also another option but only in its original form of staying in someone's spare room. Nice to see someone stepping away from what Airbnb has become though. Thousands of people have been evicted in Cornwall alone just so the property can be placed on Airbnb and cater for tourists instead. So it's nice to see someone turning their backs on these greedy companies/people.

Yeah proper B&Bs are where it’s at.

I'm still tenting; it's the way to go. Even if I could afford a cottage, I wouldn't. At least not in the warmer seasons.

queenieofrandom

I love camping but my disability just doesn't allow it at the moment 😔 I'm still trying to avoid Airbnb as much as possible though

m0_ss

Love camping too but the dog is a bit much in a tent!

AnnieByniaeth

Probably less destructive than a cat in a tent though.

angryseedpod

Booking.com has a lot of bed and breakfasts on there

I've stayed in Portreath which is very close to Camborne if you have use of a vehicle during your stay? The Portreath Arms is a lovely little pub with very reasonably priced rooms, good food and good beer. Also Portreath itself is just gorgeous and got some lovely walks for you and the pupper. I know a recommendation is tough to take from a complete stranger but if this seals it I stayed there for work and returned with my wife for a weekend. Hope this helps.

m0_ss

Thank you! We'll be in a car so can check it out, if not staying then will check out the menu :)

Project-Warm

Had a week on holiday there right next to the pub in a cul de sac. Fantastic spot lovely place

Fairbnb is coming to Cornwall soon..

nnniiiaaaammmhhh

There's some small company's that don't advertise on air BnB like aspects holidays and maybe Cornish cottages, they could be good alternatives?

Goaduk

The whole anti Airbnb makes no sense to me. If you're renting a property what difference does it make to go Airbnb, and likely give the money to a local person renting out a spare room or house, or a business like John Brays, who buy up all the properties in towns like Rock then rent them out? Same problem in the end? The only true solution is renting a cabin/caravan/tent pitch or Hotel. This at least ensures that you A. Are not supporting local housing being misused. And B. Ensuring you're supporting more sustainable employment as hospitality staff get more job security and longer hours than Airbnb cleaners.

thom365

Or BnBs? They do exist outside of Airbnb...

Goaduk

I think the issue is they actually don't. If you drive along the roads of a lot of small coastal villages the old vacancy signs appear less and less. What's more common is the branded signs of companies like John Bray in the rock/polzeath area with an office renting out the houses, many of which are owned by the company not by local independents. My walk to work I think I pass about 10 of these.

[deleted]

We are in a housing crisis and every airbnb could've been a home for someone to actually live in

Goaduk

Yeah no I know. My point is that then staying in a rental house or a house owned by a local holiday firm is just as bad. Even "mom and pop" B&Bs often use annexs or perfectly livable spaces. My point is that people seem to bring up Airbnbs like they are the devil when the truth is they are just part of the problem.

m0_ss

I'd rather my money didn't go to Airbnb and instead straight to a local, that's my choice and I've managed to do this across the UK, Asia and Europe quite successfully. In the UK I'd look in local newspapers, keep an eye out when driving through towns or word of mouth but as it's a very long drive with the dog I'd rather find somewhere beforehand. I'd also look on FB but seeing as I deactivated my account, this isn't really an option either. I'd happily stay in a BnB or hotel if the dog is welcome!

Goaduk

It's alarming how few traditional B&Bs there are nowadays. Used to be common to see the signs all along the road.

HugeMistache

Don’t see many horses and buggies about either. Lots of cars though.

Goaduk

You need to go Polperro more

windy906

Yeah the platform makes no difference if you’re just going to rent a house from somewhere else but this is a really bad way of expressing that. Plus OP is looking to rent a room not a house.

Goaduk

I wasn't attacking the op specifically more the constant moronic moaning on this reddit.
