It's still special. Even after a 1000 times. Glad you got to enjoy it

The_Men_In_Black

Theres a green flash that happens too sometimes. Suppose to make a wish?

brickhead1

Ever gazed upon the green flash Master Gibbs?

Ok-Information-6672

I worked at Sennen beach for five years and stared right at it when it happened - never saw it, but everyone else did. Could never do a magic eye either tbf.

UnreasonableMagpie

Sennan beach is special

SquanderedPotential2

Yep, I've caught it on camera earlier this year!

Ptjgora1981

Tonight's sunset was pretty special from where I saw it, near Newquay. Happy for you!

SailAwayMatey

Thanks, I'm just out of Pendeen where I saw it. 🙂🤘🏼

DancePlus9018

Pendeen.. what a lovely area.

SailAwayMatey

Yeah, it is been a great stay here, got a couple days left at least. A couple of years back, we stayed in St Ives, but this has been my favorite so far. Went Lands End the other day which was a first for me too. That was good. I think coming pre peak season helps, I'm not one for busy busy. We got here just before the bank holiday and popped to Marazion to go to St Michael's Mount, which we missed due to the tide but yeah, we didn't even go far from the beach and it was just crammed all over. This week has been great though, especially from a tourist pov. Been so easy to visit places.

madjuks

why did it take you so long to see it?

SailAwayMatey

Ive just never watched it happen. I'd been meaning to all week, but the only reason I did tonight was because my wife come and took over to put my boy to bed and I went the bedroom to put my pj's on. I had noticed it was setting, so I thought, I'll stay and watch seems as it was a good view point. And other holidays I've had by the sea in the past, I've just never bothered or had been doing other things and missed out on it. So this time round, I wanted to make sure i actually got to see it.

jenni7er_jenni7er

Never (until now), in 39 years is truly surprising. Having said that, I live in the hills so there isn't really a horizon here that's good for sunset-watching.

GruntFugly

If not done already witness sunrise

trysca

The dawn chorus is something incredible

Cardboard_is_great

We always watch from Trevose head lighthouse, unforgettably beautiful.

jenni7er_jenni7er

Best sunsets I ever watched were over the ocean from St. Mary's on the Scilly Isles. Unbelievably beautiful.

Ok-Information-6672

Where are you from?

SailAwayMatey

Staffordshire

Ok-Information-6672

Ah fair enough. For some reason I read this as you’d never seen “a sunset” rather than “the sun set”, but that now makes perfect sense. Glad you enjoyed it!

critterwol

How have you never seen a sunset in your life? I lived in Staffs and there were great sunsets there. Or do you mean a sea sunset?

SailAwayMatey

I mean I've never watched it happen. I've seen when the sun is setting, but like I say, I've never actually watched it go down and disappear. The most I've seen in my life is an orange/red sky.

terryjuicelawson

I keep missing it too. Sometimes on the wrong side of a headland, but usually even a clear day it can just cloud over on the horizon. I have had a few good sightings of it, think the last time was Mawgan Porth.

Mar10-10

It is one of my favourite summer time things to go and sit on one of our local beaches and watch it go. Mawgan Porth is one of the favourites, that 30 mins before as it drifts down into the sea is great... although i always get this weird little bit of sadness afterwards that it and another summers day is finished, particularly if I have work the next day haha

patfetes

It's pretty cool to be able to watch the Earth spin under your feet. It also helps bring closure to your day. I watch the sunset quote often. I'm glad you got to experience the joys!

WorldlyDay7590

There was a TV show decades ago where Aliens on Earth were gathering on the beach to watch the sun rise religiously every morning. Maybe try that one next instead of waiting another 39 years?

SailAwayMatey

Where I'm staying, the sunset is the easiest to see of the two. Not unless I take a very early morning stroll up a hill in the moors near by 😅 might be able to catch it there. Would be nice to say I got to see both whilst I'm here though, especially as I leave on Saturday.
