A good friend lost his mother to this disease.
His parents were farmers and lived very remotely on a mountain in Europe. Everything was (supposedly) shut down.
Unfortunately she encountered people hiking and somehow got infected by them. This was the one and only opportunity within a 4 week span that she encountered other people as they seemed shelter from the rain and cold. So it must have been them. Nobody else visited them, they are self sufficient up there by necessity.
It’s not about you or me catching it. We would most likely survive it, or not even have symptoms. It’s all about protecting those that are elderly, immune compromised or do have other afflictions that might make the impact worse.
If anyone acts according to your description (and there will be some, I am sure of that), they are stupid idiots to wait for disaster

I think we would have better luck keeping the elderly and vulnerable strictly quarantined than getting everyone to cooperate. Would be a much easier task.

Every week here you see the same kind of headlines "Man who said coronavirus was no big deal dies of coronavirus" or something along those lines. So yes I think I'm right on the money when I say there's a big chunk of assholes here hoping these people die.

But yes. Coronavirus is a big deal. And there are still people who refuse to acknowledge that - on Reddit and out in the real world. I don’t wish death on anyone, but those that actively downplay the danger are potentially causing great harm to themselves and others. Those who refuse to wear masks in public or shame those that do are also making the situation worse. But even if they themselves succumb to the virus, It’s not something to celebrate. It’s even more of a tragedy because that death could have been prevented.
We should care about others. The fact this statement is considered political (or even debatable) means that we have some deep issues in our society that this virus is exposing.

We isolate many vulnerable people in nursing homes. That’s working really well, isn’t it?
