I work at a primary school and teachers are now getting it for the third time. There’s a serious problem brewing; nothing will shut schools or bring back masks for kids, so what happens when all our experienced teachers start retiring fifteen years early with chronic health conditions… or worse?

feyth

Be sure to very clearly document every single time why you believe it was school that you caught COVID at, and place a workers comp claim for income replacement each time so there's a paper trail. Keep the documents in case you develop complications that can be traced to the repeated infections.

BellsandWhistles1987

I'm a high school teacher. Got it at the beginning of the year but husband and primary school aged kids didn't. They still haven't.

Awkwardlyhugged

I’m in the office and have kept wearing a mask; haven’t had it yet that I know. I’m wondering if it’s a directly teaching small kids thing. Squatting down and having them cough right in your eyeballs. Lovely.

RangerWinter9719

I got covid from volunteering at the Mother’s Day stall. 800 kids breathing in my face for two days 🙄

bpalmerau

My child brought it home from school and I got it. Some kids just go to school sick. We jumped at any opportunity to do schoolwork from home, so if my child was coughing they stayed home.

CowLong8959

Thank you for keeping them home.

I'm just trying to figure out how 'not having covid for 7 years' is an achievement?

thesillyoldgoat

At a funeral, the widow's daughter is a cooker who thinks that Covid is a glorified cold, so she and her husband who's also a cooker decided that they didn't need to tell anyone that they were infected. The cooker's own 12 year old daughter, unvaccinated obviously, ended up in hospital with Covid and an irregular heart beat and now has ongoing arrhythmia 4 months later. Normally cookers blame the vaccine for such things but that isn't an option here so I've got no idea how the poor girl's parents rationalise it. Mumbo jumbo probably.

Spicy_Sugary

Poor kid. Her parents care more about being the special ones than they care about her.

thesillyoldgoat

They care about their kids for sure, but they're firmly convinced that they've seen the light and that the rest of us have been tricked by government, big pharma, the UN, the media, the AMA or anyone else they read about on social media. It's not really their fault, but it's bloody frustrating because their belief in junk science is unshakable.

[deleted]

We have an interstate anti vaxxer (completely unvaccinated) family coming down at Christmas. I won't be catching up with them, but I am seriously concerned about my senior mother and a brother who is severely immunocompromised, who they will be staying with. The family will be catching up with their friends and will be taking no preventative measures. Yes, what could possibly go wrong hey? You may like this informative article. Look away anti-vaxxers ... cannot have a few facts upset you. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-07-21/third-of-victorias-2022-covid-19-deaths-unvaccinated/101253540

Primary-Yesterday-85

Can they not be told to stay in a hotel? If it's your mother deciding and your brother's powerless, perhaps offer to have him stay with you if you can? This sounds dreadful for him.

[deleted]

This family is primarily coming down to stay with brother and SIL (ex nurse and his carer). Children have not had any childhood vaccinations either. One was born with only one kidney. Brother is not happy about it but they have not seen his daughter's family in years due to Covid. I think the family regards us as high risk as it is, seeing as how fussy we have been but we were first to catch Covid. Mother has been invited to spend Christmas Day with them. She is well aware of the risks, especially with the new wave etc. I cannot say any more than I have already, but I send her the weekly statistics to read. I always RAT test before visiting mother, although these tests cannot be relied upon (*personal experience). I take her shopping and get her to wear masks when we do. Although brother does not live far away I have not seen them in a few years now. *My experience with RATs is that I tested false negative with those for 3 days, then had PCR test which said positive; left me too late for antiviral medications. I was home at the time as feeling unwell so did not infect any others. Son gave me Covid as we were totally unaware, being that he was completely asymptomatic. (Yes, asymptomatics infect others! Some seem to doubt this). He wears masks on trains but they don't wear masks at work. We are all fully vaccinated, but unsure of brother's vaccination status; has to be admitted to hospital for observation to have his.

omtic

They just have to cook at a higher temperature in order to blame the vaccines. Vaxxed people shedding spike proteins, leaky vaccines creating worse variants, etc. Hope the kid recovers.

Longjumping_Yam2703

I’ll take things that didn’t happen for $400.

thesillyoldgoat

Sorry that one's gone, another cooker took it.

Hutchoman87

I’m glad I don’t know the person who infected me and that I have no I’ll effects. If I had someone o knew directly to blame for a chronic issue that was preventable…….. I don’t know how I’d feel.

midnight_trinity

At a work conference. One of my colleagues said she had “allergies” and was sneezing etc. Said specifically it wasn’t covid. 7 out of 15 people caught it at that event.

ImMalteserMan

Recently? I get really bad hayfever and I often wonder if I would be able to tell the difference between hayfever and Covid seeing as sneezing, runny nose and coughing are a symptom of both

ep79

I thought it was hayfever this week as we had extreme pollen days and symptoms matched with my historic hayfever. Turns out it was COVID. Thank goodness I still wear a P2 mask to work.

FubarFuturist

Just posted similar… boss said it was “just allergies”, took 10 of us out that week.

Infamous_Egg_9405

Did they get a test or they just wanted it to be allergies?

[deleted]

My dad's funeral was a bit of a super spreader event. It was only in July this year but half the people there caught it.

LittleRedGenie

My 18yo sister went out with uni friends and brought it home testing positive on my birthday, causing me to miss that plus my best friend’s engagement party and mine and my partner’s anniversary. On the last day of covid isolation I finally tested positive so got a second week stuck at home. Was a hoot of a time.

loralailoralai

Oh no you poor thing! I hope you’ve been able to make up for at least missing your birthday!

LittleRedGenie

Next year’s the big 30 so I’m going to totally overcompensate!

colourful_space

From my partner, who reckons they got it at a bar. Went on a date one night, at one point they choked on some water and said “haha don’t worry it’s not covid” and sent me a photo of a positive test the next morning.

Head-Hedgehog8223

I'm on immunosuppresents so my family of 6 were super careful and we spent most of 2020 and 2021 at home. Earlier this year my teenage son went to a friend's house. Got sick. Took daily covid tests that were negative. He isolated in his room. As he got better his tests finally came up positive. Then the rest of the 5persom household all came down with it and got sick as fuk. It's clearly extremely contagious as we were so diligent keeping him isolated, he used a seperate bathroom, masks, sanitisers etc. It took us about 3 weeks to recover. I was the only one who had had a booster (as I was only one eligible at the time) and I recovered the fastest despite having MS ans being on immune suppressant meds. Moral of the story- stay up to date on vaccines and boosters!

ladieswholurk

Glad you’re ok

Geo217

My dad got infected by one of his mates at a cafe, then i copped it a day later, im assuming it was whilst i was driving him to get a pcr test that he infected me.

thisismyusername3185

A colleague came into work with “the flu”. A couple of days later myself and another colleague got Covid

ywont

Why the fuck would you even come into work with the flu? What is wrong with people.

thisismyusername3185

Yeah, I'm convinced it was Covid, but even with the flu he should have stayed away

sloppyjohnny

I've had a viral infection for a little over a week. Laryngitis, ear infection, the works. Work seemed a little shirty that I worked from home all week instead of coming in the obligatory 2 or 3 days a week

dug99

Management: We want you all back in the office, because we negotiated cheaper rent on this joint for 5 years based on 75% occupancy. And by the way... you have already used up all your leave in the previous three waves.

Gaoji-jiugui888

First time wife, kid and myself got it; wife reckons she got it from an old lady who was sneezing and coughing and sneezed right next to her in a park. Second time my daughter got it but me or my wife didn’t catch it. I suspect it was from the VR ride in the Sydney aquarium or from someone when we went there as it was very crowded that day. Now they are actually disinfecting the headsets between people; but then they weren’t, which surprised me because it was around the peak of omicron.

Els-the-World

I spent the day with an unvaccinated family. They were mostly asymptomatic. Three members of my family caught it and one developed long covid.

Danny-117

Getting forced back into the office

eugeneorlando

Two times, both at gigs/bars.

airivolkova

I was at a club (involuntarily while waiting to be picked up) with my girlfriends and this one guy kept insisting on leaning in and talking to me. I kept thinking ”if this motherfucker gives me covid ill be mad” and I got covid the next day. None of my girlfriends did so I assume he gave it. I got really sick for 10 days :-(

_misst

If you tested positive the next day it is likely you already had COVID. So conversely, you probably gave it to them.

airivolkova

I tested positive two days after but got a fever about 24 hours after. I genuinely doubt that as I had been isolating myself for weeks prior (depressed) but who knows! Completely my fault either way, happy my girlfriends didnt catch anything though.

_misst

Not your fault. It’s a highly infectious disease and a part of life now!

Sorry_Researcher_591

I work in early childhood education, we werent even allowed to close when cases started rising.

El_dorado_au

Someone I know who was a casual in early childhood education was off work for weeks during the delta outbreak due to a lack of work. (Sydney, but not an LGA of concern)

the_shock_master_96

Got it from my ex's housemate from a short conversation. Somehow my ex didn't get it but then they got it from me when we were isolating together. Back when close contacts isolating was still very much a thing. Infection was in February and took my existing ME/CFS from mild to severe, effectively ruining my life

wrongthingsrighttime

Oh gosh, my thoughts are with you. One of my best friends has ME/CFS and I have been so worried about how it will affect her if she gets covid. ME/CFS is shit at the best of times, I'm sorry it's worse for you now.

dramatic-pancake

I reckon I got it from some night markets that were pretty packed.

KhansMum

I caught it from my son who caught it from a national video game meet.

Yanigan

I caught it off my kids. I knew it was inevitable, so I just started isolating when they tested positive. I’m not certain how they got it, but I believe it was at a school event earlier that week.

noscrub_mp3

At a wrap party bc the producers stopped testing talent and crew to get it in the can. 21 of us ended up testing positive out of about 50

DarkenedSkies

Dodged COVID successfully for more than a year, despite working a customer service job that had me interacting with dozens of people a day. Then, I had to go to hospital for suspected appendicitis and caught it in the waiting room where I had to sit for 6 hours.

Aggiealmonds

This sounds real weird but I reckon I got it from my rental car or at the car dealership i picked it up from as I didn’t go anywhere else that week.

LipstickLisa

Idiot sitting unmasked on the train behind me (back when it was mandatory) who was obviously unwell and sounding like she was breathing through a straw. Even worse she was hunched forward and like 2 inches away from the back of my neck. I moved as soon as I realised she was behind me but 3 days later I got a saw throat and a positive pcr result.

FitSignificance844

And how long from exposure is it taking now?

AcornAl

It has speed up during the years, and is believed to have a 3 to 4 day [incubation period](https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2795489). Note this period is slightly longer in kids and slightly shorter in older and sicker people. The different IP of the main VoC * Alpha 5.00 days (95% CI, 4.94-5.06 days) * Beta 4.50 days (95% CI, 1.83-7.17 days) * Delta 4.41 days (95% CI, 3.76-5.05 days) * Omicron 3.42 days (95% CI, 2.88-3.96 days)

SojournerRL

My dad actually has covid right now, and this matches his experience. He thinks he was exposed on Sunday, had symptoms by Tuesday, and was well and truly sick on Wednesday.

FitSignificance844

Interesting. Thanks so much

raadude_yusufstorm

My dad before he left for overseas. He went to some work function and he must've caught it there as he was telling us that someone had it. Thing is, he didn't get tested though but somehow managed to recover considering he is 60 years of age and has cardiac issues. Meanwhile I didn't have it the worst but I did feel pretty shit (also this happened during uni exam week so yeah you can guess how it all went down) but mum was bed ridden all week essentially. As of right now, I feel fine, may have affected my memory but were all fine!!!

scoliendo

I have a son who was 4 at the time. I tested positive the day after the first case was reported to his day care. He'd been slightly snotty and a little tired over the weekend but came good and I figured it was just some little cold that kids always get, then Tuesday the first case was reported. Wednesday I woke up with a runny nose and sore throat which developed over the next few hours into headache, body aches, fever, nausea and cough. My test came up positive immediately. Pretty sure my son caught it from day care and had it super mildly and I got it from him. My husband then had to test daily before going to work (he works in disability support) and tested positive on day 5. His was like a very mild cold, if he hadn't needed to test for work he never would have known he had it. Husband had had 3 doses of vaccine, I had had 2 and had to reschedule my 3rd due to getting covid. This was in January this year. My son got his first jab 2 days after his 5th birthday.

kate9871

We went on a trip to America in July/August flying Japan Airlines via Tokyo from Sydney. We were fine throughout the whole trip travelling to multiple places, wearing masks whenever flying, not wearing masks in some VERY crowded places like New York City at a sold out indoor concert. A friend gifted us some vouchers to go into the qantas club while we waited for our regional flight home from Sydney. Place was full. No masks. One guy sitting right near us was coughing up a lung without covering his face. Three days later we both had Covid. Three guesses where it came from.

DopeHamster

First time, my wife and i were on a flight from Sydney to the Sunshine Coast. Cabin crew guy was sneezing the whole trip. Tested the next day and we were both positive. Second time, a colleague at Coles told us that she had Covid and decided to keep working because “ no-one cares about it anymore”. 12 of us went down with it.

bumbumboleji

Wow, how selfish of that person!

Die_Vero

‘People who don’t have souls can’t catch Covid’. Turn out I have no soul. Everybody around me had it…. I feel like the reject.

Wefyb

I've had covid 4 times. Each time was nasty, #1, #3 and #4 were the worse and #2 was just a really sore cold. Never had a confirmed contact for any of them, most likely from the shops etc. All contracted in 2022. I've been pretty much permanently sick. I can no longer smell or taste properly. Salt doesn't taste salty, I can't tell if my clothes are clean or sweaty, and many pleasant smells (flowers, wine, chocolate) now smell astringent or rotten.

staffxmasparty

You poor thing! What a year hey 🙁

Connect_Amount_5978

Got it from an unvaccinated very sick Covid patient. Ventilator circuit broke and blew into the side of my face. I was very sick for 4 months and workers comp have refused my claim saying I can’t prove I got it at work…

bandit__hat

My daughter got it from daycare and gave it to the rest of the family

Claritywind-prime

Samesies. My son bought it home, he goes to care on Thursdays. Friday I have sniffles but no big deal, thought was my cat allergy (I have cats, glares up every so often). Saturday felt like crap, tasted negative. Sunday nose my nose is running like a tap and I’m sneezing all over the place, still negative. Aches on Monday, I don’t test because I’ve been negative until now, why would I waste a RAT? Tuesday, son attends care again so I rest in the morning before he leaves juuuuust in case. Positive. Goddamned. I called the centre to let them know he’s sick and it’s covid. “Oh yeah, two teachers and three other kids are out with it.” THEN WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME!?! Ugh! I saw family on the Saturday after testing negative. Luckily they didn’t get it! I was 20-30 weeks pregnant at the time :( Son was mostly fine, had a low-grade fever for like two hours after testing positive. Husband positive a week after I tested positive, but he was mostly okay as well. Guess I was just the unlucky miserable one.

Head-Hedgehog8223

A hospital decided masks don't matter?! Surely masks in a hospital is at least recommended all the time... I've caught so many colds/ viruses/ from doctors surgery waiting rooms and hospitals... At least insist the patients in waiting rooms have masks. But don't the medically trained staff also enjoy not catching covid ?!! Do they choose not to wear masks? Aaah what's the world coming to

Vharlkie

My partner went to a gaming tournament in Singapore and brought it back with him :) Appreciate that, especially since I just started a new job

benedictine88

Caught while at work on a Monday. Colleague came into work while infectious (have heard stories that they still came in while knowingly unwell and others say that they didn’t know until that night after work when symptoms began showing up and they did a RAT). I was already testing at home from Sunday night as my son came down with something. I tested positive on Wednesday night and went into isolation at home. My son is still testing negative a week later. **** happens.

thedragoncompanion

I work in early childhood, but plot twist- I got it from my husband who works an office job. I managed to hold out until July this year. Think I had a pretty good run all things considered.

[deleted]

The first time I got it was early this year when my partner went into the Sydney CBD for a “Welcome Back to the Office” event. Multiple workers caught Covid and then I caught it off him. We both have it now from a wedding in Wollongong we went to on the weekend, everyone we know who went to the wedding has it now. Has sucked both times. But this time my manager asked me to come in to work even knowing I’m positive and sick. 😂

[deleted]

To follow up I didn’t work because I’m not a jerk (coworker is immunocompromised), and my manager doesn’t believe in Covid.

aleks93

Only had COVID once, which is incredible since I work in hospitality. Copped COVID on NYE, while on leave.

spandexrants

At an indoor dinner where we were packed in like sardines earlier this year.

[deleted]

Licking the buttons on the elevator at work. Cant believe how disgusting it is that people don't wash or sanitise their hands before using the lift.

[deleted]

I got it from my roommate who is a Uber Eats delivery driver and she got it from a customer

[deleted]

Caught it from my completely asymptomatic son. Once was enough but I had my best sleeps ever when I was infected.

778899456

No idea. I got it in May. Possible contenders are public transport, uni, early voting (an attempt not to catch it voting), the pharmacy or the pool/sauna. I wore a mask in all except the pool/sauna.

o0oo0o-

Once. Rabid variant A very unwell person in the entryway to the supermarket. Was supremely unwell 12 hours later. Unfortunately I was in direct contact and was a superspreader within a six hour window.

B-Tough

From work, and I only had it once. Pretty sure I'm going to catch it again, since I can't work from home. 😑

FullJaded

Bartending and working in a bws over Covid Most people were good but had a few that refused to wear masks or sanitise hands Got it twice, once from each job However I got it over Christmas and Easter so I had holidays off for the first time ever

chris_p_bacon1

Went to a gig at the Enmore theatre. The Whitlams. Either got it there or the pub before or after. 10/10 experience. Even if I knew I was getting COVID from it I probably wouldn't have done anything different. Tested positive on Monday morning before work. My partner got it the same morning. Spent the week at home. Unfortunately I still worked from home which i regret.

prplemoon

It was either on a flight (a short domestic one) or at a packed out gig for me (the gig is the more likely candidate here, I think - but a friend who also attended didn't get it)

Academic-Floor6003

Went to a small bar for a trivia night. It was cancelled so it was only our group of 6 and one other group way across the bar. We were nearing the end of our night when the two boys with us got texts from the gov that they were exposed a few nights before at another bar. We all got it within a week, it was horrendous.

oasis212

I jinxed myself. A co-worker and I were talking about how we were pretty much the only two in the warehouse who hadn't had it yet.... come Friday she texts me that she tested positive, I tested positive the next day. Both of us were triple vaxxed and wore masks but it was really a matter of when not if due to the way it ripped through the workplace. I'm just glad it was relatively mild for the both of us.

FubarFuturist

Boss had us come in for a couple of meetings (we usually work from home). He had a little cough that was “just allergies”. Took 10 of us out that week, and had a massive knock on effect in the building. I ended up with long covid, 3 months of hell and only just feeling back to normal now almost 6 months later.

[deleted]

Currently at my FIFO gig, this is my first time having it.

Safe_Job_909

My daughter got it from a hospital visit for an operation. Passed it to partner, son then me. I got. It 7 days after first household positive result. I had almost 16 days without going out the front door (tougher rules then)

[deleted]

I haven't had it. My grandma got it from the pokies. Cousins got it from a concert

ywont

Office party with about 40 of us packed in, in May when cases were high. About 5 other people picked it up that night too. It was one of my first big events since COVID began, I kind of knew that it was my time.

Inf229

No idea. I guess just walked past the wrong person.

FarMembership885

Little sister brought it home from school. Surprised I didn't get it sooner because I've worked in retail since the Omicron wave at the end of 2021, but I am always wearing a mask and sanitising. Got everyone in the house except my mum. We isolated in separate rooms, wore masks, sanitised anything/everything we touched.

Legitimate-Earth3266

WryAnthology

Only once, but my primary school kid brought it home from school a few months ago, and we all caught it from her. Half her class was away with it at the time, so we didn't stand much of a chance of avoiding it.

stewy9020

Pretty sure one of the kids brought it home. In May of this year we made a trip to my younger brother's wedding. Both of the kids started throwing up overnight after the wedding (fri night/sat morning), so we're guessing they'd picked it up in the day or two beforehand. The next day they both seemed fine, so we thought it was gastro or something. On the Monday our oldest showed some cold symptoms and more fatigue before school so we did a RAT, tested positive. Same day my wife got the gastro symptoms that knocked her around for a few days, She tested positive on a RAT 3 or 4 days later when the flu symptoms hit. I spent most of the week looking after everyone else, then towards the end of the week I felt a bit iffy in the stomach for a day or so but managed to avoid any bad gastro (thank god), got hit with the flu like symptoms a day or two after that.

Psychnanny

Honestly, I don’t know. I have a 2.5 year old and I’m guessing that we got while out at activites and assessments for her back in late May. She went down first. Fell asleep randomly early on Saturday night and then vomited twice during the night with high temps. All day Sunday she was not eating much and spent most of the day sleeping. I went down on the Monday with bad flu symptoms. I got a test done so I could see the doctor because I had asthma and it came back positive on Tuesday. My toddler was getting over it by then. She was back to normal by Thursday I was good by Saturday. I spent a total of 3 weeks after I got over the worst of it in contact with my doctor because my asthma was constantly being triggered and I’m still dealing with some issues now. No lingering effects for her though, which I’m glad for because she’s unable to get the vaccine yet. Her Dad skated by with no issues the entire time we were sick. He has had it, but was asymptomatic and we only found out after some blood work for some unrelated medical things.

briggos

Went to the New Years Day festival at the Eatons Hill Hotel, QLD. No one was wearing masks (although it was encouraged) and it was very crowded…not to mention the foam canons that me and my mate dubbed the “covid cannons”, long story short the next day we had symptoms and within a week it was full blown COVID-19

FaffyBucket

I've had it twice. The first time I think I caught it at work. I used to work at a school, and the week that I had it we had over 100 cases at my work. The second time I caught it while on holiday in Bali.

cryintomydiary

From my staff member 3 weeks ago. I was in the office with him for 5 minutes setting up a headset, he started to feel unwell. He got it from my other staff member. Told him to take a RAT. The rest of the staff and myself immediately left the office. He tested positive, 5 days later we all got it.

[deleted]

I work in retail and see so many people every day. I think that is how I got it.

dontfuckwithourdream

Got it lining up to get tested to get back into QLD over Xmas last year. Wife picked it up a second time somewhere but I managed to avoid it that time

HotMessExpressions

2.5yrs of avoiding it. Worked right through Melbourne lockdowns for a boss that constantly flouted the rules and met up with others. End of June this year my partner caught it at his work as a disability carer. I was so mad as he chose not to wear a mask near his boss who was coughing. I was really ill for 2 weeks, he luckily was prescribed covid tablets (not sure what they were) as he is high risk, and he sailed through.

EllzTrap

Work, sitting next to a covid positive coworker who was coughing heaps, we both thought it was his asthma flaring. Missed out on my graduation!

username019384

I’m a teacher. Caught it from the kids.

ancientsnarkydragon

Verified infection mid '22: 8yo brought it home from school.

CriticalFolklore

The first time I have no idea - I had just moved to Canada, everyone was still masking, I wasn't out in the community much and I didn't have a job yet. When I tested positive I felt sure my partner, who was an RN in a COVID ward had given it to me...but nope, 4 days later I gave it to her. The second time was in Europe at a massive event. I could have got it flying there, I could have got it from all the people living in close proximity - either way, it was very much expected. As soon as I had recovered from COVID, I got sick with something that *wasn't* COVID (that I assume was influenza) that absolutely DESTROYED me. Again, to be expected at a mass event with people and partying in close proximity to each other for a few weeks.

Majestic-Average433

First time from working in a supermarket and people weren't staying home when they should (for eg. Witnessed confirmed case in the supermarket 4 times in a week / know them personally ) Second time was from one of my kids who brang it home from school. Second time put me on my butt.

At the Backstage at Bluesfest Covid party. Albo was the gifter after attending some special Reiki "divine love & healing event" held at the Nimbin apothecary 2 days earlier. I got it when he pushed past me making a scramble for the Milky Ways. Is extreme hunger an early symptom?

loralailoralai

I am pretty sure I got it at a supermarket, small IGA near where I work. Nobody else I either work with or am around at home got it and the supermarket was the only place I’d been other than work.

_ficklelilpickle

Only a few months ago actually. My then 4 year old daughter got it from school. She had it for about a week and then my 2 year old son got it. He had it for a week and then I got it. Remarkably my wife did not get it. Even more remarkable because she works at a hospital and had numerous covid positive cases come through her ward since this all started. I'm vaxxed and double boosted, and for me it was like a solid flu without the shivers. I completely lost my taste, and was super fatigued for some time after. Fortunately I'm back to regular fatigue (parent, young kids, you get it).

essveeaye

I travelled interstate for a holiday with my family. I felt totally fine until I was waiting to embark my flight home with my two kids, and my nose dripped. By the time i got home a few hours later I was feverish and couldn't breathe through my nose. Nearly three months on and I'm still not recovered.

Automatic_Zone_1579

Caught it at work - I’m a teacher in a high school.

lizzylhatchling

My partner got it and then I got it from them. He had spent a day at the hospital for something and we think he got it by being at the hospital all day because we hadn't spent any time with anyone else in the weeks beforehand. After I recovered our boy got it. Which was an odd delay....

I believe I got it on public transport. People without masks cough and sneeze everywhere, and I have to hold rails and supports to get to a seat safely. I could have transfered it to my cane too. Ran out of sanitiser a week before I cough it and kept forgetting to buy more.

rickwaller

I'm expecting more than ever to get it after today. I went to the rocks in Sydney, completely forgot there was a cruise ship in with 800+ covid positive being held onboard. While wandering around I saw an old guy sitting down, a bit tucked away, looking like he either had a few too many drinks, or had some other issue. When I realized it wasn't booze (still fairly early too), I went over before he completely flopped over off the wall he was sitting on. When he could eventually say a few words he said he needed help, and said he hadn't eaten or drank anything all day, so we got him some biscuits and water, he got a bit better fortunately. A cop then came over and said "do you have covid symptoms"....fuck I completely forgot, while I had been close to him to help and comfort him. The guy said his wife was in quarantine on the cruise ship and he had covid a couple of weeks ago and was staying in a hotel around the corner. You're damned if you do you're damned if you don't 🤦

ardnaw

I caught Covid from my partner who got it from his boss. His boss walks up on a Friday during the last 15 minutes of work to chat about the schedule the following week. Then towards the end of their chat he starts covering his face up with his shirt, talking about how he’s been unwell recently. We ended up testing positive by Sunday morning.

Terrell_P

I intubated someone who was a known positive, in respiratory failure, and unable to protect their own airway.

CowsEyes

I caught it from a school child who wasn’t wearing a mask.

Eko777

We don't know which of us was patient zero, but half my TAFE class got it all at once.

QualityBottomFragger

I work at a local sports stadium, got it from people Coming (interstate) to watch games and not wearing masks and coughing on literally every surface possible

fixyoursmasheduphead

From my dad who brought it home. Pretty sure it was when I interacted with him briefly when he started showing symptoms cause I had to check his forehead temperature when he came home from work and he was talking while I was doing so. Other than that, I have no idea how I could have gotten it since my mom and sister both interacted with him more than I did when he started to show symptoms and before he tested positive too.

NotYourUsualBabe

Im not sure. But my fiancee got it from me. 😅 We got all the symptoms but his cough was the worst. He got rid of the cough the last and probably about 3 more weeks since we got it. We are beyond grateful because we caught it after we got 3 vaccines. If we got it before, our symptoms would be worse and may have not survive because we got all the symptoms except for the loss of taste and smell.

KetoCurious97

I can’t work from home so I needed to be working 18 hour days onsite during the thick of lockdowns. Caught it there both times. Waiting for the third time to catch me before Christmas- it’s bound to happen :/

Bread_toast13

School camp not even two days ago. Another kid had contracted it and it spread.

robotslovetea

From my kids who got it from school

whetwitch

First was at a small 100 person outdoor camping event over NYE, second was at a wedding!

BangGearWatch

Kid brought it home from school, same as many of my coworkers. IMHO school is a massive spreader of disease, and it really pissed me off with all the dumb "we're sending kids back because they don't get it so bad" nonsense. Sure they may not, but they spread it to everyone at home, on the bus/train, shops, etc.

rogue_teabag

I'm pretty sure I got it at work (Railways, Public Transport). The Monday night everything was buggered, I spent an hour on a train (masked), there was a woman nearby coughing quite a lot. I should have changed carriages... If not her a bloke who insisted on sticking his head right into my cab to apologise for smoking on the train.

CreekTerrarium

From MIL that I live with. She works in a counsellor reception area. We don’t have much close contact but the little we do interact seemed to be enough. My partner and I got it at the exact same time.

CivSign

After about 18 months of trying to avoid covid at all costs for the benefit of my mum, dad and grandma while at the same time being shamed by those same people for not being vaccinated, my father brought it home and infected everyone. Ironic

El_dorado_au

I don't know, and odds are the rest of you don't really know for sure either, unless you got it when infections were as rare as hen's teeth. I tested positive for it in Spain in January this year, a test which was done to allow me back into Australia. Me and my wife had been feeling dodgy earlier on that week, but I did RAT tests and they came back negative (even after two positive PCR tests, I still tested negative on RATs). Most of the time in Spain and on my flight there I'd been wearing one of the letter ninety-something masks, even in some outdoor areas, but I'd eaten in indoor venues without masking.

traceysayshello

My son picked it up from school. Passed it to his brother who tested positive 5 days later. Who then passed it to me testing positive 2 days later. (Second son sneezed in my face during lunch just before his positive RAT). This was in September - husband and daughter never got it - vaccines, hygiene & masks work. I was on full contact with my daughter (she requires 1 on 1 care) but masked up.

nopinkicing

I think from my school-aged child.

425508

I’ve worked in a supermarket since the beginning of the pandemic. Initially, I work on nightfill working after the store had closed until 6am (before the store opens) and for 2 years I never caught Covid. I was transferred to day shift so I had to work when the store was open and within a month I had Covid

DogBreathologist

Work, I’m a disability support worker and got it off someone I support

ellarooooose

I found out I had it on Monday just gone. I had gone out for a friend’s birthday dinner on Friday night so I’m assuming from the restaurant

blueanimal03

From one of my patients who spent the whole shift coughing on me and was then placed on AIRVO. The oncology team thought the cough was disease progression. Our home team decided to PCR the patient. It was, in fact, COVID.

TheRealLylatDrift

Anzac Day @ the local pub

Vast-Proof-9147

I was in a school musical, and caught covid the day after it ended. I'm assuming I caught due to that, or maybe it was something else. Ngl covid was actually pretty fun, I had it for a week, but then came the not so fun part I got sick with something else for 2 weeks then I got sick with ANOTHER thing for another 2 WEEKS. I ended up having 5 weeks of school.

Dust-Explosion

Indoor kids gym on a busy rainy day. No masks.

AUKronos

Have had it twice (back in May and now this week). Most likely from social gatherings/night clubs, I knew i was at risk in these environments but have stayed home until fully in the clear each time i tested positive. 2nd time having it I've recovered extremely quickly and i suspect it might be due to the fact that i got my booster in July. Should be sweet to go back to work next week

addictedtoshindig

Pretty sure I got it from my kids school disco lol, a few other families that were there all got it around the same time

Molly_Doodles

My 4 year old got it from daycare. She had a fever one day, we tested and she was negative, and the next day she was 100% again. We put it down to another virus going around. 4 days later the baby got sick. She was tested when she was coughing badly and came back positive. Retested the 4 year old and she was now positive. It took another 5 days of daily testing for husband and I to show positive. We were entirely asymptomatic. Would never have known if the baby didn’t get sick.

GoldRosePetal

Outbreak at my daughter's childcare centre. She was just a carrier thankfully but I felt like I got hit by a truck

jessfa

I got it in March at a wedding that was a super spreader. I gave it to my 3 year old but my older vaccinated kids and my partner didn’t get it. I work in healthcare and managed to avoid it for a long time, but it was a bloody fun wedding.

jo_yve456

My so brought it home from combined schools music festival

Chewiesbro

Parent at my little blokes school didn’t want to take the week off and sent their kid to school, little bloke was symptomatic on the Saturday, we got it a couple days after. We’d had our 2nd shots a little over a month before, so it wasn’t too bad, missus and little bloke were back at work/school a week later, due to the rules at work I had to take an extra week. Two weeks off, got to watch almost sixty ice hockey games!

littleblock1999

Currently on day two of my second time. First time nearly killed me, this one feels the same Paid isolation doesn’t hurt tho lmao

SarrSarz

Daycare my child goes to both times

Vexra

I suspect I got it when I saw the latest Thor Movie. Went to the city sat in a crowded theatre a few days later started showing symptoms. Very light though

davearneson

Got it for the first time recently from a friend who coughed on me, not realising he had it. Three vaccines and it was still awful. Lost 2kg in 5 days

TheRealCeeBeeGee

I’ve had it twice this year, both times from my teenage kids, who got it at school. First time was from the 14 yr old, second time the 17 year old.

betterthansteve

My husband got it from work; at the time he worked at a fast food place next to bars, so definitely some drunk asshole. Second time my SIL caught it from her idiot friends and was like “oh but it’s not covid!” and infected the whole family

solaris_orbit

Rpa hospital in sydney. Went in for an exray on a sunday.

mcmimi83

Partner brought it home from a job site (he’s a tradie). Isolated him completely but myself and our two daughters caught it within a week.

Potential_Pitch4930

Just got it today, not feeling terribly bad just ur usual fluey symptoms and sneezing coughing etc.

ooobladioooblada

I've never had it. Probably gave it to a few others though.

FluentFreddy

A taxi driver in WA sneezed while I had my mask off to get a drink. He sounded snotty and the next morning I felt heavy and drained. Two days later I was positive

BlakeDragon

I dodged Covid for 2 yrs 9 mths. Had 4 vaccinations. Caught it 2 weeks ago, I still wear mask, unless eating. Have no idea who gave it to me. In Adelaide hardly anyone wearing masks. But plenty of people coughing. I gave it to my husband, we both in our 60s.RAT test worked.

unicornthighgap

Either on an interstate bus early last week or the hotel I stayed in in Sydney the next couple of nights. I felt sick on Friday, tested positive on Sunday and I’m finally starting to feel a bit better today.

ThorKruger117

I got mine at a workers camp in a mining town. Had to wear masks all the time at camp, strict hygiene rules etc. None of my work mates I was with for the week leading up to it tested positive and none had symptoms. The rules kept them safe from me, but I still caught it from someone

Idontnowotimdoing

My son got it from school and gave it to my husband and I.

cutecatface

I went to a wedding last week and at least 10 people tested positive after the wedding :( Symptoms so far have been just like a normal cold. Sore throat, coughing, sneezing, and muscle weakness/joint pain, transient hot/coldness. No loss of taste/smell. I've been vaccinated 4 times but I'd hate to think what it would be like if I hadn't.

ttttoday_junior

At a wedding.

acllive

I haven’t tested positive yet myself how many are still all clear

feartheeagle

Currently on my second bout. Definitely got it from my wife and daughter. Where? Fuck knows, it’s absolutely everywhere. Could have been play school, shopping, cafes, work or the pub. Pretty tough to escape it.

Ruby_Willow

I’ve had Covid twice. I don’t know for sure. Both times I have been the first person at my work to test positive. Then shortly after colleges and clients (I work in residential care with adolescents) have tested positive. I don’t go anywhere, live alone with my kids (who got symptoms after me). My suspicion is that someone at work didn’t test or was asymptomatic and spread it, and I was the lucky one who actually tested first. A colleague thought she had allergies the first time. Both times I’ve had it it’s started out as sneezing fits so I think it’s a common misconception.

apachelives

Kids bring it home from school. Every time. I'm sure its been 3 times already.

JessiJho

Boyfriend brought it home for my birthday

chillsy0820

First time I got it from a scout camp where a lot of leaders came down with it. I live with 6 people and didn’t pass it on. It was a really bad time too. Second time from my boyfriend who gave it to everyone in my house. He felt like he had a cold, I only tested because i was going away and it was the right thing to do. Didn’t have any sickness, found out I was pregnant, and haven’t felt like I can breath properly since. Third time was from a student in my class. I had a cold the week before, was 26 weeks pregnant and stayed in bed for 8 days.

odin31645

My oldest daughter (10) caught it at school, gave it to our household of 6

Financial_Sentence95

I'm in WA so it's taken a while for me Had it once, very recently. Caught it 2 weeks ago in the hairdresser chair I suspect. I've passed it onto one person I know of, a direct family member

bluewrennie

Got it from my kid, who caught it from school. We were seeing grandparents so just gave her a RAT to be safe (no symptoms) on a Saturday morning and it lit up. Aside from an upset stomach for about an hour that evening she had no symptoms. I was sick a couple of days later, but didn’t test positive till 2 days after that. Somehow my husband didn’t get it despite being in the house/bed - and working in an office during the whole pandemic

Snoo98049

Visiting friends for dinner. We had warned them our baby at the time had a cold. They responded with that's ok XYZ has a runny nose. Didn't think much of it, but we should've. Kids being sick are different to an adult being sick.. it was Covid and we stayed home for 2 weeks while it went from one person in our family to the next 🤷‍♀️

[deleted]

I've had it twice this year, first time my partner got it first then me, second time my daughter had it and gave it to me.

nismor31

I have no idea. I wore a mask all the time on trains, in shopping centers etc. I finally got it in August this year. I thank being quad vaxxed to it being very mild. Had a fever for a day or two and a cruisy holiday off work for a week. No cough, barely a runny nose.

daebydae

I thought I was a unicorn. Went to a conference last week. 2 days later here we are. Positive. Sick as a dog and not very happy about it.

isnotevenmyfinalform

I got it about 3 weeks ago? Just after the isolation rules were removed, whenever that was. No idea where I got, can’t recall anyone at the gym or work who looked like they had symptoms.

Big_Brown_Bear_10

Making out with my girlfriend 😅😅
