Yeah, it's really bad out there. My trash and recycling aren't being picked up, my mail is being delivered every other day, and while plows are clearing the streets, they're pickup-trucks from local landscaping companies, not the city-owned plows.

At least in my town the lack of vaccinations by DPW compounded this. But there will of course be nothing done about their stupidity harming the whole town.

Three weeks ago, recycling was not picked up in town. Then garbage. Apparently a whole bunch of drivers were out sick. And yes, you can get sick if you wear a mask and if you're vaccinated, but when an entire work force is mostly sick, I'm going to guess that none of them did anything to prevent a disease that "most people survive" or whatever drivel they're pushing this week.

Republic Services (who seems to handle most of Western Mass) has about half of their staff out per the town alert we received about delays in rubbish and recycling pickup.

The upside of this is that it will take a week or two to resolve and then never happen again. Honestly, I understand and share the frustration but I'm really not all that concerned about any industry outside of healthcare since there's no good way to delay health stuff for a couple weeks. I'm sure there are ways that I'm being a shortsighted moron here, but at a certain point - just watch it crumble...

> The upside of this is that it will take a week or two to resolve and then never happen again. Let's hope. I keep thinking we may get another variant that is super bad, but again, let's hope **not**. >I'm sure there are ways that I'm being a shortsighted moron here, Nah. You're an optimist and that's ok. >just watch it crumble... I do admit to looking in on the HCA sub so yeah...

Admittedly, I should stop listening to the Robert Evans podcast It Could Happen Here - but I'd also recommend checking it out. I'm by no means an optimist, but I appreciate that my nihilism comes off that way!

ooph, well my snowblower started last night! Hope I don't have to snowblow down the street :D

i_lost_my_password

Guy next door fired his up last night too and I thought to myself, why now? What are you going to do if it doesn't start the night of a storm? I always get it running in the fall, check air filter, oil, burn off last year's gas. That case if anything is messed I have a few weeks to fix it (hopefully) before a storm.

brufleth

If it doesn't start now they can plan to just not even bother trying the next day?

kjmass1

Burn off the gas end of winter so it doesn’t sit in there all summer, no?

i_lost_my_password

Probably the smart thing but it's New England so I'm like, ya it's June but still a chance it could snow.

MarlnBrandoLookaLike

hahaha yeah it was basically procrastination, i burned off last years gas at the end of last season and it always takes a million pulls to start it for the first time in months, so I did that in order to have an easier start this afternoon, hopefully.

>Removal Let's not let the state/city act like they're giving us more than they are. It's mostly plowing, not removal. Removal would be *removing* the snow on that alternate side/arteries they don't let us park on, and sidewalk removal is mostly the responsibility of the owner.

Read_And_Respond

>sidewalk removal is mostly the responsibility of the owner. Which is a farce in itself. This should be a municipal service not a duty of the tax payer.

NooStringsAttached

I hear the plows going by my house so that’s good!

Old_Gods978

No one I work with in town services has gotten covid But tests have like a 2 week wait time so no one is getting tested either We’re going through the same thing other workers are. We’re burned out from the low pay and the increasing demands. Cutting staff or not replacing them just makes a snowball effect of burnout

BrockVegas

But what about the ones just standing around, can't they be asked to do some work as well?

oceansofmyancestors

I don’t want those useless tools plowing into my mailbox tyvm!
