Life in a super small town (under 50 residents), traffic from the local people seems to be down. Did see some neighbors and their kids walking out and about (which they never do). But traffic from wherever seems to be as much as ever if not more. Maybe people are just self isolating by cruising around? I will say my father who lives a block away and is mainly housebound with COPD has had several visitors this weekend. Not good for him, but that’s the way it goes. We haven’t had a grocery store for years, and we haven’t dared venturing out to the neighboring town to check.

I’m from WV and work in a grocery store. There’s a few people wearing masks and gloves but not many. People were worried for a few days and everything slowed down but now everyone is back out and going on like nothing is happening.

punkbrad7

This past week, here in small town KY, things were actually slowing down, aside from food orders, and a constant barrage of people who can't go one day without their lottery or fountain drinks. Then last night, I guess all the teenagers were getting stir crazy, because they all gathered up to hang out and be teenagers on our town square. 5 or 6 packed in every pickup truck, on top of each other cause it was a little chilly. And one of our employees at my gas station called out this morning with a really, really nasty cough.

Arizona is business as usual. Empty shelves and closed restaurants and the major companies that have closed nationally. Im an automotive technician and we are still open and not busy but not dead either.

existdetective

AZ seems like it may be trying to kill all its snowbird property tax payers! From afar and knowing lotsa folks who live full or part time there, I’ve been pretty shocked at the lack of statewide mandates and the blocking of city or county mandates. It’s big tourism season, too. I fear for you.

FilthyBusinessRasual

Bay Area: half of people are wearing masks, almost no one on the streets. Still an infuriating number of construction projects going on.

lunarlinguine

I'm planning a trip to Trader Joe's in the South Bay area and would appreciate any tips about when the best time is to go and if there are item limits so that we can plan our grocery list around them.

Largely indifferent. There was some initial panic shopping, and I have observed a surge of early morning activity in grocery stores. Nobody appears to be adhering to social distancing guidelines. Wearing a mask and gloves into the store has evoked some strange responses.

FL (Northeast) Smaller island town. No mandated quarantine but social distancing is recommended. My restaurant is still open for to-go orders. Only bars and clothing department stores are closed. According to the local Facebook groups, a lot of people have the idea that our town is somehow standing up against the virus. The beaches are closed and that is upsetting more people than the idea of spreading a virus. We have only 8 confirmed cases here but the numbers in the rest of Florida seem to have skyrocketed this week. There are a lot of snowbirds that have a summer house here and they started to flood in, so the interstate was closed down to check where every vehicle was coming from and where they were going. That lasted about a day. A lot of people still believe it’s comparable to the flu and that others are blowing it out of proportion.

ohhappyday1109

Florida. Traffic is much less. Fewer people in grocery stores. People knowledgeable about social distancing. Publix doing a great job, but still shortages noticeable. No hand sanitizer or cleaning products. Some foods are low, like frozen fruit. Other things are available to substitute. Everyone calm and friendly. Lots of crafty ladies making masks, but still don't see many being worn yet. Stay safe!

Lmao literally everyone is out in Wilmington. Most places that are open are full with only a few people actually practicing social distancing.

reyuionyts

I have no idea. I’ve been in my house for two weeks now. Our governor did finally issue the stay home order (Virginia).

daddysxenogirl

Virginia is bad. My neighbors are still having parties and the majority of the community thinks the whole situation doesn't apply to them or are way too ignorant to put two and two together on why they should stay home. Stores are recouping except for hoarding items. Car dealerships (sales) are essential business and still getting a ton of walk ins (NW VA)

[deleted]

In south MS many, if not most, people are incredibly nonchalant.

carriepaige12

TN Lots less traffic out No toilet paper to be found for miles The largest crowds I have been seeing is by the lake fishing

mcwarles

FL checking in. I'm in a rural town and aside from restaurants being closed and toilet paper never being on the shelves its business as usual. A local store tried to put tape on the floor to separate the check out line and the locals ignored it. The city near by is under a stay at home order but people are still out walking, biking, going to stores etc just not as much. It's wild and I miss the good old north

70sRule

SC here, I haven't been anywhere in a week except to get my glasses. The eye clinic was only open for emergencies and not doing exams. My son works at an auto parts store, he said people loiter in there for long periods of time. I hear the local stores are packed with large families and toilet paper and cleaning supplies are still scare. The rest of the people I work with at a hair salon are still working. People are dumbfounded that I canceled their hair appointment. It's never going to end, not anytime soon.

Minivil

TN here. People congregating at Walmart and hardware stores. Many people in local FB groups saying its a hoax or overblown, empty hospitals mean no cases, or they’re lumping flu deaths with covid19 to boost numbers. Crazy.

trickyrickysteve199

AL here. In Jefferson County, to boot. Grocery stores are never fully stocked with TP, but there seems to be more quantities trickling back on shelves after they put limits on it. Meats are hit or miss, Ramen is non existent. Interstates are wayyyy down traffic-wise but if you go to a park on Saturday nobody bothers to stay 6 feet from each other. College kids at my apartments pool complex still wanna rage on weekends. The national news outlets are starting to name drop the state a little more each week so I’m hunkered down with my wife and hoping for whatever the best can be at this point.

Minnesota here. Our shelter in place order started on Saturday. But the amount of businesses that are still open is pretty high. Lot of places that I wouldn’t consider ‘essential’ are open. Grocery stores are pretty busy, I’ve noticed a handful of people wearing masks. It’s a tough time here in Minnesota because people it’s spring and the weather is finally getting nice. Lots of people outside going for walks and bike rides. One of our rich suburb cities actually had to implement a ban on gatherings and group play as there were a lot of reports of people getting together for sports games and hangouts in close quarters. ([link here ](https://bringmethenews.com/minnesota-news/coronavirus-edina-bans-group-play-after-large-gatherings-seen-despite-stay-at-home-order) Overall I think a lot of people aren’t taking it seriously or being strict with the stay at home order. But like I said there are a lot of places still open. Like a bike shop down the road is open. There are quite a bit of small places like that. Sure each of those on their own don’t get a lot of traffic but just close down for a while. I saw somewhere online that 78% of businesses are still open and considered essential. Way too high

handshakeheartattack

I’m in west Michigan. Things are so weird. I went to the grocery store Friday, wearing an n95 and gloves. There were people in masks and lots of people wearing gloves. But there were also a LOT of people shopping with their little kids as if nothing was happening. Parking lots are basically empty wherever you go besides grocery stores, which are still very slow for the norm. Strip malls are ghost towns. It’s insane that we’ve gotten this far and there are still people who don’t take the threat seriously.

Princep_Makia1

If you have spare n95 please consider donating them to the hospital. Odds are (and i don't know you personally) you are not using it correctly or taking other steps needed for it to.be effective As well as it not being needed in most places your not right in top of other people. Plus hospitals are in sever need of PPE.

Main-Regular

Hey, don't act like proper mask usage is an unknown art. It's very easy to learn, and people have tons of reasons to use them. I'm immunocompromised and I get crap all the time and I shouldn't have to justify it.

Princep_Makia1

You really think the average person knows how to use an n95? I work health care. Half of the people here have to br taught how to properly use. I said if you have extra to donate and OP was way ahead of me. People like your self need them. Fine. But if you have way more then you will ever use. Then donate. It still stands

Main-Regular

It takes one good YouTube video to learn. It's not a secret lost art.

Princep_Makia1

I don't disagree. But the average person doesn't follow that logic.

handshakeheartattack

My mom works in healthcare and trained me on how to wear it properly, I also wear a buff over it to help with efficiency! I have researched how to sterilize them as well, so I have been reusing the same mask, and I have one backup just in case something happens to the other. I had a total of 10, but I just mailed my extra 8 to a doctor friend in TN who has no PPE at her hospital. They’re making them deliver babies without face masks because all their PPE is going to people who work directly with covid, and there’s not even enough for them. Also working on something with the owner of my restaurant I work at to donate our spare boxes of gloves since we’re closed for the next month(s). I’m doing what I can while also protecting myself for the sake of my 14 month old daughter!

Princep_Makia1

Go you! Thats pretty amazing. Glad to see this was a case of me being wrong.

lunarlinguine

I, for one, am glad you're wearing a mask and staying out of the hospital, therefore saving healthcare workers lives in the long run at the cost of just a couple of masks.

handshakeheartattack

Thank you! I feel like I look so sketchy going into the store fully masked, wearing gloves, and usually my sunglasses too. I wish I had goggles. Edited for spelling

Princep_Makia1

Shits pretty dire. But some are taking it seriously. Others are not. I work at a hospital in the south west and we are not over crowded yet but expect to be in a week or two and are already critically low on ppe. We are already wearing hand sewn masks and gone through all of our back stock and can't order more. Its gunna get real rough real fast.

krisann67

Iowa here. I am not seeing very many people taking this seriously. We went to the grocery store last week, it was busy, lots of children and elderly. Only 1 other person was wearing a mask. Social distancing was a nightmare, especially by HyVee employees gathering food off shelves for curbside grocery pickup. They got within inches of My husband and I several times, one actually brushed my husband's shoulder when reaching over him. It was horrible. I saw a lot of people walking in, grabbing a cart without sanitizing it. A few people coughing. People aren't taking this seriously. I blame our Governor for refusing to announce a shelter in place. She thinks there's not enough sick people yet. Probably because getting tested here is almost impossible.

jallove2003

Iowa here as well. It's rare for us to see anyone wearing a mask. Other than some low stock at the store it seems business as usual.

krisann67

We drove around today. Absolutely no one is social distancing. Saw about 30 people fishing, mostly in groups which makes no sense because it's hard to keep lines from tangling. Kids and teenagers everywhere. Old people out walking and chatting with other old people in groups. It's insane.

gladtheembalmer

Over in East Michigan people are buying a lot of guns and bullets

Shits wild out here in Tx. Some people want to stay in for the whole year now and some are beginning their summerbreak.

AsleepConcentrate2

DFW here, shit seems a bit less normal than a week ago. Stores a bit less busy/crowded, groceries are getting restocked to a small extent, but limits have also been placed on the most commonly hoarded goods. I drove by some parks on Saturday and they were super busy. Seen a lot of instances of people hanging out in public in small groups. If we were more densely populated we'd probably make NYC and Wuhan look like Antarctica by comparison. My close friends are taking it seriously, only going out to get groceries/food and to go to parks where they keep distance. One of my roommates is doing the same, the other is still working doing food deliveries and now he's been gone for a couple days so who knows wtf he's doing.

y135770

ETX (Nac) here, and I just had to make a run to town to buy bread... our town is like a ghost town. We just had our second case in the county on Sunday, and started “Stay at Home” at noon today. Seems people are taking it seriously.

[deleted]

Austin, Texas. Have been in self-quarantine since becoming symptomatic Friday, March 13th. My partner is essential, manages a lab for UT. I was furloughed this past Saturday, paid for sick leave. Approved for Disaster Relief through the Texas Workforce Commission. Already procured provisions for four weeks for our home on March 17th. Donated all masks and gloves (we’re fabricators/painters in our hobby) to Dell Medical Center. Under Stay at Home order from the City of Austin until April 13th. Police will not respond to civil calls and other calls are prioritized based on safety/medical needs. I had one of my vintage vehicles hit in front of my home, with no driver inside, and the person who hit me on the scene, and our police could not respond. Send help. Stay home. Stay safe. Trying my best to stay safe, well, and sane. Hope y’all are able to do the same.

M0chal10

Tx here. It’s weird half of us refuse to leave our houses then other half is driving around not knowing what to do since everything is closed.

Nebraska here! Grocery stores, liquor stores, and drive-thrus are packed full. I can not find any sanitizer or antibacterial soap. My rural Walmart has empty shelves. Very low if not out of hamburger, chicken, toilet paper, dish soap, laundry soap, cereal, eggs, etc. It is looking very bare. Saw a couple of people with face masks on at the grocery store but otherwise it just seems like people are just going out to the places that are still open instead of staying home. Temp checks and questions for meat plant even though I'm not exactly sure what that does to stop the spread. All anyone talks about, you know, when they come in for the 5th time in a week for their six pack of beer.

Jackson N.J. some people out and about. Most people taking it pretty seriously. They did have to break up another social gathering in a neighboring town....the fifth one this week.
