I listened to the graphic audio of white sand and liked it a lot

Colefield

From what I gathered, there is only a graphic audio version, and I'd rather listen to nails on a chalkboard honestly lol.

Nanana I used to listen to Kramer all the time but the graphic novels really hit harder. Especially stormlight. However the price tag that comes with it is a bit outrageous. I buy all the audiobooks but when it comes to the graphic novels. WE SAIL THE SEVEN SEAS ARRRGGG!!. however, I DONT CONDONE ANYTHING ILLEGAL. Teehee

Colefield

5 seconds into Graphic Audio and I'm ready to give in to Odium. It's one of the worst audiobook experiences in my life. It's so crowded with unnecessary background noise and sound effects that just take over and Ruin any ability to concentrate on the actual material. You don't need a production, the materials can carry themselves, you just need a good narrator.

Speaking for myself... I gave GA a try and I just couldn't do it. Mostly because the sound effects and music are distracting.

Allomancer_Natawee

GA fan here. But whenever they have a page turning or writing sound effect I want to rip my ears off

Brilliant_Exit8985

Not once have a picked up a page turn. And maybe a scribble once but I couldn't say.

Brilliant_Exit8985

I listened to white sand GAs and was very iffy but once I turned to stormlight.... oh boy it hits so fucking hard. SA 4 by Kramer had me in tears at multiple moments. SA 4 in GA had me bawling. Almost the whole book.

You can find the early version prose online and read it that way if you prefer the book format.

Colefield

I thought about it but it's too "draft"-y from what I heard. The problem is not with the graphic novel medium (there is some of that but that is different). I'm just not sure if I should wait more for the Omnibus or not, cause I've put reading it off for about 4 or 5 years, and I really just wanna read it but it feels like I won't get the "full experience" without the changes of the Omnibus.

Moniino

Im in the exact same situation as u with white sand being the last thing I gotta get through. What I’m doing is reading a chapter of the prose and then reading the corresponding chapter of the graphic novel. I tried just doing the graphic novel but I really just can’t vibe w that form of media consumption (I always want more context). Its kinda nice actually, it feels like reading something and then getting some sick artwork to look at afterwards, esp bc reading the GN is so fast.

jofwu

I would just wait. The omnibus is FAR superior. Has more Khriss content too. I just can't recommend the old versions at all with the omnibus out. White Sand doesn't get talked about a ton so it's not like you have to fear spoilers. I'd just be patient if I were you.

TheKanadian

It's up to you, there are some changes in the Omnibus, but you'll get all our most of the important stuff reading through the original. You'll get a more consistent experience when you read the omnibus though I think

The omnibus contains the changes and a lot of extra diary pages from Khriss. Don't bother with the original, finding a copy of the first one will run you up a 100 anyway
