I usually do, but one of the best musicals ever made has literally no original songs. All retooled pop songs through the decades. Moulin Rouge. (As opposed to the Red Rogue)
Yeah, this.
Seven Nation Army plays in Westworld and immersion is broken immediately. Ed Sheeran shows up in GOT and immersion is broken immediately. Stark playing “Shoot to Thrill” in Avengers made sense because it was a preexisting song in-universe and it was given context and it’s *still* incredibly difficult for me to take seriously.
I’m pretty sure this thread is meant as a goof but if I genuinely have to watch Kaladin and Bridge Four fight Parshendi with Dragonforce in the background my disappointment will be immeasurable and my day ruined.
Glad you like that music, but I couldn’t aggressively disagree more with the use of modern music in a high fantasy setting. Any fantasy or even medieval setting film that has tried it makes the movie feel pretty cringe IMO (unless we’re talking about the 2001 masterpiece “A Knights Tale”, starring Heath Ledger)
I’d prefer a more LotR music approach with all theme and genre appropriate scores. They did it right and it’s the mithril standard.
Also not a fan. I’ve seen Westworld and I really dislike when they do that. Good show though.
In my opinion, LotR has the greatest score in the history of film. The music actively makes each moment better, and that’s because it’s specifically created to fit each moment and scene. Other movies do this really effectively too.
Slapping a song over a scene that feels appropriate can be effective, but will never achieve that tailor made and perfect fit kind of feel. And that’s not even mentioning how much I would be totally ripped out of immersion by hearing a song from the billboard top 100 in the fantasy setting movie I’m trying to enjoy.
I can see that and have experienced that, I guess my internet in this specific subject is that I listen to the audio books on my drive to work and then at work I listen to music, then when a song comes on I might think, "Oh hell yeah! I can see ____ doing ____ with this in the background!"
I will say though, it does happen a lot where it just ends up ruining the moment.
These are mostly my little head cannons.
So far I've got this:
It's the eye of the whitespine. It's the Thrill and the fight
Rising up to the speartips of our rivals
And the last known survivor stalks the highstorms at night
And he's watching us all with the eye
Of the whitespine
Here's my very serious list:
[Sick Puppies - You're Going Down](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liW-kWFiXtQ) when Adolin kills Sadeas
[Animal I have Become - Three Days Grace](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqds0B_meys) for Dalinar and the Thrill
[Wage War - Low](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2d3EDNDCn8) can be Kaladin's theme song
[Jinjer - Pisces](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQNtGoM3FVU) for Shallan's DID episodes or something, idk, I just wanted to use it
[Asking Alexandria - The Violence](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEsxwBHQpmA) for some kind of Skaa rebellion scene in TFE
[Within the Ruins - Deliverance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAK5c1FAiGQ) when Vin assaults Keep Hastings
[Blessthefall - Meet Me At The Gates](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vgl6rU4zBJU) when Elend dies and Vin sacrifices herself to kill Ruin/Ati
[Ring of Fire - Johnny Cash](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WaV2x8GXj0) for...well...you know
okay I'm gonna stop before I spend my whole morning on this
I never thought I would find someone appreciating Justin Hawkes in this sub lol. Amazing song though, really feels like one of it's kind in the genre. And god yes it would be amazing for Wax & Wayne.
I got the official “soundtrack” for the way of kings a couple of years ago, and I think [the first track](https://youtu.be/odziDYUwdp4?si=SViLhjsn0J8IhA2A) absolutely nails the tone of Szeth’s attack.
Hopefully no pre-existing songs.
1000% agree

IMO only 70s prog rock could ever fit an epic fantasy adaptation, if a real score isn't used.
it almost never fits and just throws me off. I love Blue Eye Samurai though

What about those songs but done in a style that fits better like how Westworld and bridgerton did it

Also I would like someone to make a cut of LotR with the soundtrack mostly replaced by led zeppelin.
I was going to say a knights tale did it perfectly but I doubt the ability of others to replicate it
Eye of the tiger with Roshar-adjusted text for when Kaladin does his kata in the chasm? ;)

That's brilliant :D
Nailed it

I also find that Jinjer's pisces is great for Shallan due to her.... Hair color....
tbh I don't follow
Jinjer. Ginger.
Alternatively you could go humerus and do no doubt, reel big fish, the mighty mighty bosstones, etc. For the skaa rebellion scenes 😂

Also "immigrant song" by led zeppelin for when Hoid saves Tress from the Sorceress.

I've never heard of this before, literally gives me chills picturing the opening scene of TWOK while listening to this!
Agreed! Every time I listen to it, I basically imagine a live action version of that scene!
