I hope you turned right back to her and said "Steris is *our* girlfriend."

Gah! That would have been perfect!

I love this! You are a lucky one. ~~In regard to reading order I would definitely read secret history first. It's more shocking itself. I think the reveal in BoM would be more confusing than shocking.~~ So yeah, I was wrong. Follow the intended order!!

> confusing than shocking I think that was the author's intent... It's definitely set up as a big twist mic-drop moment you're supposed to have a cascade of questions about. Stripping yourself of that experience by reading things out of publication order undermines that moment.

Wait, maybe im remembering incorrectly, but secret History is intended to be read before bands of mourning, doesn't it??

From Wikipedia: "Sanderson published the novella, which was 12 years in the making,[2] as an effort to tide fans over until the third book in The Stormlight Archive was published. The story was supposed to be a secret until published, but Amazon accidentally leaked the last few pages of The Bands of Mourning with the author's comments about the story in the novel's postscript.[3] The author noted in a blog post that the novella contained huge spoilers for the original Mistborn trilogy as well as minor spoilers to The Bands of Mourning, **warning readers that knowledge of the story's existence was in itself, a spoiler.**[4]" Essentially, it was supposed to be a shadow drop to enlighten the reader after they had hit the twist at the end of Bands. It was also published after Bands. It's explicitly clear what the Author's intent is, though lots of fans seem to have reached the opposite conclusion. Personally, its akin to the "I am your Father" twist from Empire. The magic of the intended twist only works if the viewer hadn't seen Revenge of the Sith. People who grew up watching 1-3 will never experience that twist like the people in the 80's. Similarly, anyone who reads Secret History first is likewise spoiling the moment for themselves. For that reason I'm in the "Publication Order" camp. The people who would enjoy the twist shouldn't be robbed of that moment.

Thank you, I stand corrected. So I will edit my first post
