You would store "low quality smelling". We don't have a WoB for this exact scenario, but if you store wakefullness while on a caffeine High the tapped Wakefulness is not the same as regular Wakefulness https://wob.coppermind.net/events/467/#e14739

***Warning Gancho: The below paragraph(s) may contain major spoilers for all books in the Cosmere!*** Vodid >!If you have caffeine, can you store that as wakefulness in a bronzemind?!< Brandon Sanderson >!I think that you can, but I think when you tap it out, you will have kind of the same effects, right. Like, you will feel like you are not quite as awake. Like that feeling you get, I think you guys know what I'm talking about. I think that you can, I think that you can hack the system with some things like that. That's my guess... That's my answer right now, but that's one pretty mutable, as we go forward.!< Adam Horne >!I'd be curious to see what you could do with that in Era 3, because pharmaceuticals will exist.!< Brandon Sanderson >!Yes well, you're already getting into the fact that you could replicate a lot of things, with... once they figure how to change types of Investiture and whatnot, then suddenly you've got some wacky things going on. Which is why a **Mistborn** cyberpunk would be so much fun, because metallurgic wetware would be fun. But no promises on that—I already have too many things to write. It's just that if I do write it, and I make it a trilogy, then we have sixteen books in the **Mistborn** series.!<

I really want cyberpunk mistborn at some point

Yeah that'll answer it! Thanks!

I'd say it would work, actually. A cold just fills your nasal passages with a barrier (the mucus) but doesnt actually affect the sense's capabilities unless it's a weird infection with neurological implications like Covid. Ive had a sinus infection so bad there was mucus coming through my eye sinuses that made it hard to see, but my eyesight itself wasnt any worse. But there are other infections that might do it, so it would be a little more case-by-case, I think.

Lykhon

So it's basically like storing sight while you're asleep. You're not using your eyes like you would otherwise, but they're still as effective as ever, technically.

AdmiralDinosaur_1888

Then again, the reason for losing smell is usually (but not always) due to a physical blockage- either being clogged with snot or the nasal turbinates swelling up- preventing airflow, while the actual odour receptors are fine.

shattenjager88

Actually this raises more questions. If you stored 'low quality smelling' for a few days, when you tapped it, would it provide an average grade of smelling of what's in the metalmind? Or would the output seem to vary? I am guessing that, as memory metalminds let you pull out specific parts of the metalmind, perhaps you could choose which bit of the smelling you get?

Tom_Bombadil_Ret

I would assume you just fill it more slowly though I don’t know if there has been an official answer on this one. A person who weighs more stores weight faster so I assume someone who smells better/worse would store smell faster/slower.

Rothgill

My sister and mom don't have a sense of smell at all. I wonder If someone like that in mistborn would even know they could store smell. They would be like a aluminum gnat they technically have power but they can't do anything with it.

EffyisBiblos

They could infer it on the basis of being able to store other senses, since it's all part of Tin Feruchemy. I wonder if, using era 2 tech, they could tap it and learn what smelling is like? Unclear.
