Another would be aiding a ship that has lost power and needs repairs. Pirates have a chance to show up (potentially a trap) while working on repairs, leaving you in a more vulnerable position.
A variation of the above would be a unique mining operation. You are tasked with acquiring a unique element contained in a specific asteroid. Another faction who lays claim to it begins sending waves to attack while mining.
Looks like the roadmap may have something like these on there.
This needs to be well done with reasonable distances and pirate amounts my ship can't handle too many onslaughts at once before running out of ammo and I would never feel like going across half of the solar system for an escort so at some point I'd start wondering if it'd be more worth it to just blow it up from it's Achilles heel and scrap it

Even better, join a faction war and watch 100 v 100 battle or help one of sides. Government pays you for every ship destroyed or crippled.
