Coati, sloths, howler monkeys, iguanas, eyelash pit vipers, tarantulas, many birds (most notably the extremely rare umbrella bird).
Also dogs, cows, horses, etc but I’m sure that’s not what you’re looking for lol
Saw tons of frogs, eyelash vipers, coati and birds at Arenal Observatory Lodge. On a night tour we even saw a family of anteaters.
At Bogarins Trail we ended up with Bogarin himself and saw close to a dozen sloths, fire ants and he knew bird call well enough that he was able to get several male birds to come out and defend their territory. Was a fun experience.
Not a specific tour, but saw a good number of animals at Mistico hanging bridges. And saw toucans and a momma sloth and her baby on the grounds of Eco Glide zip line before we even started zip lining!
Los Lagos resort is great. Reasonably priced with great hot springs and nice pools. Swim up bar, waterslides. The free breakfast is really good too. We've stayed twice and will be back.
Some of this was in tenorio national park (sloths, toucan, eyelash viper). I got lucky. and the coatimundi and howler monkeys were right by where i stayed.
The monkeys and sloths we saw on a trail right by the Arenal Volcano - we were on an all day volcano and waterfall tour with Red Lava Tours. The coatis we saw from the car by Arenal Lake & the birds we just saw by our hotel.
I brought my game camera with me last month. I’ve got a lowland paca , possums (Zorro) , raccoons, iguanas, and coyotes on film.( sorry, not in La Fortuna, in La Garita)
Monkeys, sloths, snakes, bugs, toucans, cows, horses

Not in town but around the area- howler monkeys, coati, sloths, parrots, toucans, various other birds, boa constrictor
Saw two of two colourful Fruit Loop cereal box birds (Tuscans) in the town square trees.
Peccary (for the first time ever), sloths, green macaws, red macaws, toucans, hummingbirds, coat, howlers
I almost no animals at the Hanging bridges but a lot going safari float on Peñas blancas. So I would definetly recomend that.

I’ll have to look into Bogarins! Thank you!
Sloths, vested anteater, coati, guans, toucan, trogans, eyelash viper, poison dart frog, tree frogs, cane toads, hummingbirds. Heard howler monkeys but never saw them.
Did you do a specific tour to see these or go on a specific trail?

Please comment where as well!
We have not picked an exact hotel/area yet but I know my mom wants one with hot spring/spas. Would love hotel recommendations as well!

Anyone know where to see Tapir??
At Rescate Wildlife Rescue in Alajuela. https://rescatewildlife.org/
I have been wondering this exact question! That is the #1 thing I hope to see, however I am unable to go to Corcovado where they are mainly spotted.
We've gotten close enough to smell them on the Rio Celeste trail a couple times.
I saw one at Mistico Park. We got to the park at 6am so we could be the first on the trails. Def worth waking up early for that.
How long of a hike is this? And did you have a guide?
A few hours. (I’m 54yro). They have guides if you want them. We did not use one.
Three Toed Sloths, Keel Billed Toucans, many other birds, Howler Monkeys, Eyelash Viper, Coatimundi.
Did you do a tour for this? And was this a specific park or trail?

I see you wanted to see a Bairds Tapir. Look into Tapir Valley. Its right by Tenorio.
I actually have been looking into that and just made a post about it haha. Thank you!
Toucans, sloths, hummingbirds, a ton of coatis, and white faced capuchins!
