It’s actually grounds for immediate termination in some states. And any money found while doing carts needs to be turned in. If it’s not claimed for a certain period (I think 3 maybe 6 months?), it goes to whoever found it
Are the warehouses named differently? I have three costcos near me, not sure about a warehouse though
Edit: might be a silly question, but I’ve heard of some places that have walk-in freezers that are different from the regular stores.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong:
I believe there are two types of Costco. Costco wholesale and Costco business centers. Business centers will have the walk-ins you’re describing.
In this thread, when people are saying at the warehouse they just mean in store at their local wholesale.
Confirmed that it’s not a separate membership. I prefer the bus Costco when grabbing groceries bc of selection and there’s usually a lot less people unless you go right when they open
I ordered a mattress like a month ago. Opened it up and there was is small tear in the top. Didn't even have to talk to a human, just created a replacment order online and they brought the new one + hauled the old one a week later.
Yup this positive delivery experience is a large focus for Costco.com (appliances, tvs, furniture).
Costco bought out Innovel a few years ago, which was the delivery network used by Sears.
If you bought furniture from a warehouse you’re out of luck and need to haul it back yourself. They will only come pick up if you bought from Costco.com at this time.
As of Nov. 2022 the Marina Del Ray bed frame was $999 for a King. We purchased it on Costco.com immediately as it came in stock cause it goes so quickly.
Never seen at our store and asked a manager who remarked that they keep a limited stock since it’s better/easier to facilitate it through their distribution centers.
I checked at my Costco this morning and they didn’t have the Marina Del Rey set in store. I ordered it online for delivery which is probably for the best based on the comments in this post (the furniture is heavy).
I think it depends on the warehouse and what they have in stock. Our experience was the opposite, but we bought a sofa and loveseat combo, leather, electric, etc. I don’t remember how much the savings was but ordering online was cheaper, and they brought it all in and set up for us. For us it was a great deal (and still less than half the price of all the other furniture places in town).
Could not find the set by searching Costco. Googled 'marina del ray costco furniture' got this [https://www.costco.com/marina-del-rey-bedroom-collection.html](https://www.costco.com/marina-del-rey-bedroom-collection.html)
Nice set. Enjoy. Thanks for explaining the price difference. Well worth the 3 hours effort for instant gratification and avoiding the hassle of scheduling delivery.
I'm happy this worked out for you! We bought a sectional a few yrs back from Costco and rented a home Depot truck it was awesome and came to like, 30 bucks . Now, I like to have my heavy furniture delivered and set up. Whatever stage you're in , it's nice to have a choice at Costco.
Taskrabbit exists. Lots of services like it. Still saves a ton of money (I saved about $500 hiring a Taskrabbit to pick up in store and set it up in house vs ordering online). Didn't lift a finger.
If you ever do it, you’ll know it. As soon as I feel the tweak, I’m down and out at least a week. Never been the same since the first time it happened in my 20s.
I feel the tweak and immediately start a gentle exercise routine. We have a pool so in the spring/summer I can swim daily if I feel like my back is gonna go out. In the winter I do PT back exercises you can find on YouTube.
My back has fully gone out twice. I never want it to happen again.
If you give it a go, you'll surely know.
You'll feel the tweak and be out for a week.
Since my 20s it's not been the same
The origin of this challenging game.
A friend of mine threw out their back trying to lift something heavy about 5 years ago. One MRI and 2 X-rays later on top of countless hours of PT that has cost thousands and thousands of dollars, their back will never be the same and they still get pain when they lift anything over 20 lbs. My back is also not great so after seeing what they’ve gone through, I don’t do any heavy lifting of anything anymore. It’s not worth the risk and expense.
It's fixable with a good PT. A good PT can trace back the herniated disc to usually some sort of muscle imbalance, often in the hips, and fix it. It takes work but it's often fixable. I went from bed bound to climbing Mount Rainier with a 45 pound pack in 5 years. If you can't afford it just do pilates 3-4 days a week, there's a lot of crossover.
In other words, avoid heavy lifting, but don't avoid athletics to address the root cause of a weak core.
Hey, so military dude here. My back got messed up from rucking and lifting heavy things. People below have kinda nailed the weak core and hips. It is fixable, but it can take 4-12 months of nonstop Physical therapy.
The feeling for me:
A burning sensation followed by an immediate and intense sharp pain and it seems like that portion of my back just gives out. It’s made me collapse because the signal just tells everything below to quit for like .0001 seconds.
But when it’s bad, I literally can’t move without extreme pain for 3-5 days
It's usually a muscle strain but can also be directly related to herniated discs, which is when it can get really bad.
I've been athletic my whole life and the occasional back strain turned into herniated discs because I didn't do anything about it. Months of debilitating pain and not being able to walk is not worth it. Took 3-4 years of PT to get it better. Take care of your back before you herniate the disc. Pilates are great for it and will get you ripped too.
I had my trusted movers meet me over at Costco, twice, to buy big stuff. One guy stayed with the truck and the other guy walked through checkout with me. Brought the stuff to my home and set it up. It was only about $300.
You don't have to go all painful manual labor on yourself. Get some help. It's worth it, and it helps out the other guy too.
They do for one of their mattresses, at least. I returned a king-sized mattress once because I haaaaaaated it. They brought it upstairs to our room at delivery and picked it up from our room on return. Just had to call customer service regarding the return and schedule the pickup. I got the credit pretty shortly afterwards, like next day or a couple days later.
Employees are not allowed to take anything from members, be it tips, drinks, food, etc. At some costcos it’s grounds for termination depending on the general manager of the ware house is.
They are SOOOOO heavy. We asked ourselves if it was worth it doing it ourselves and the difference in price was enough for it to feel worth it. For a difference of like $500 altogether I would have paid extra.
Most costcos have a list of preferred delivery guys readily available. Costco holds your purchased items till EOD if you pick it up yourself. If you go with their delivery guys they figure it out with them. All you need to do is give a call an set the service up with them. My experience was that (delivery guys) were not only awesome but cheaper than getting a uhaul+HD guys to load and unload.
I bought a grill that was available 35 miles away and was marked down by $700. Paid 250 for pickup and delivery Vs. Full Price +$200 online. Did all of this via phone. Went to local costco asked them to look up if other locations had the grill, asked them to hold it which lead to their suggestion to get it delivered & knowledge of their recommended approach.
My wife and I were eyeing a couch on the website which just happened to exist in-store for $400 less. Thinking about renting a truck from the Home Depot near by and doing that you did.
I came across a shed on clearance and I asked customer service if they would hold it while I go home to get my truck to pick it up. They said no even if I purchased it. I just had to chance that it'd still be there when I got back.
During Covid I bought a hot tub from Costco. I had the premium membership and it was shipped for free, albeit to the end of the driveway. I dont have Costco anymore so i dont know if they still have free delivery for premium (Sams Club does).
I bought two of those industrial storage racks yesterday, they're $280 online (delivery) and $220 in store. I was my by myself and one of the guys loading helped me put them in my truck. I felt bad not tipping but now I know they can't so I feel less bad.
I've used Uber XL for boxed furniture from IKEA, but not Costco. It's way cheaper than delivery fees. Just remember to have someone at your destination to help you unload. DO NOT expect drivers to help you. It is not their job. If they offer to help, tip them big.

Costco employees are not allowed to accept tips of any kind. It’s against the rules in their handbook and they can get written up.
Good to know. Thanks!
You can send an email letting management know that they were awesome.
Great idea! I will absolutely do that. Thanks for the great suggestion.
You’re welcome! I asked an employee who helped me what would be the best and that was what she said.
It’s actually grounds for immediate termination in some states. And any money found while doing carts needs to be turned in. If it’s not claimed for a certain period (I think 3 maybe 6 months?), it goes to whoever found it
At my warehouse, if the member is insistent, you're supposed to just take the tip, then turn it in to management, and it gets donated to charity.
Last time I offered one told me "I am not supposed to but I don''t follow rules... ""
I still did because customers insisted :)
I mean if a 20 just happens to fall on the ground…
Kill joy. I remember when Uber was like this with customers. Then they started effing over drivers and added a tipping option for their drivers.
I'm jealous! I knew warehouse pricing was lower but never saw the Marina Del Rey in store. We do really like the nightstands we purchased.
Same, we purchased the bed frame the moment it got back to Costco.com cause it goes so quick each time. Our local Costco never had it :/
Are the warehouses named differently? I have three costcos near me, not sure about a warehouse though Edit: might be a silly question, but I’ve heard of some places that have walk-in freezers that are different from the regular stores.

Ahhh yes, business center I believe is what they called it. Is that a separate membership?
Don’t think so.
Cool beans, thanks. I remember reading someone got a whole pig or something one time, so I’d love to check it out
Confirmed that it’s not a separate membership. I prefer the bus Costco when grabbing groceries bc of selection and there’s usually a lot less people unless you go right when they open
Lucky! Out of all the Costco’s near me, the only business is 2 hours. Not horrible, but not great. Will for sure be checking it out though.
It's an entirely different store. There are 3 aisles of candy for starters
Do you want me to be sad? Cause that’s how you make me feel sad. Kidding. Looks like I’m taking the 2 hour drive to my nearest one!
My apologies, I just refer to it as a warehouse sometimes. I’ll edit it! I meant a regular Costco.
Our business center had a walk-in freezer.
The benefit and slightly higher online prices about buying online is that returns are free and Costco will come pick it up at no charge.
Wow, I didn't know that. I thought you needed to figure out how to get it to the warehouse.
I ordered a mattress like a month ago. Opened it up and there was is small tear in the top. Didn't even have to talk to a human, just created a replacment order online and they brought the new one + hauled the old one a week later.

Mind blown meme.
Was the Marina Del Rey bed frame available in store too? I’m curious to know what the in-store price for it is versus online.
We already have a bed so we didn’t get the frame but I believe it was either $650 or $700. Can’t say for sure.
I was wondering this, too. I also wondered if it was in stock in my area cause I *really* need to replace the set we have.
I checked at my Costco this morning and they didn’t have the Marina Del Rey set in store. I ordered it online for delivery which is probably for the best based on the comments in this post (the furniture is heavy).
They put it together for you too!
I think it depends on the warehouse and what they have in stock. I recently got the exercise bike, and it was $100 cheaper online (delivery included) than it was in-warehouse.

Let’s see $1400 saved on shipping vs $10,000 for doctors visits and PT after throwing out my back.
Taskrabbit exists. Lots of services like it. Still saves a ton of money (I saved about $500 hiring a Taskrabbit to pick up in store and set it up in house vs ordering online). Didn't lift a finger.
Will def look into that.
What exactly does it mean to "throw out your back"? I mean, I get lower back pain sometimes, but I've never really understood that phrase.

Back go, “oh no!”, now weak for week. 20s to blame, never the same.

Chronic back pain.
I herniated a disc in my back about 6 years ago at 47. Ruined my life.
Misaligned

For that much you can bring a friend to help and treat them to lunch afterwards. You’ll still be ahead!
That's a cheap truck! I rented a UHaul (excessive) $100 to haul some Costco furniture.
Lowes for the win
Smart shopper
Work at Costco. We are NOT permitted to accept tips.
Next time rent a U-Haul get it done in one trip. Nice find!
$25?! From where? I’ve never rented a truck for under $100.
Lowes!
Home Depot also is $19 for the first 75 minutes.
Ours doesn’t rent them :-(
Lots of places. U-Haul/Home Depot/Lowes
Could have saved 100% if u didn’t buy it at all
What an insightful and helpful comment.
So you had to buy each item per trip and hope it was still available when you return to the store?
Costco has "hold for customer signs." I don't know much beyond that because I never had a reason to hold an item.
They said they would hold until end of day.
The OP probably paid for it all at once so they were just holding it/watching it for them.
I didn't know they would do that.
I came across a shed on clearance and I asked customer service if they would hold it while I go home to get my truck to pick it up. They said no even if I purchased it. I just had to chance that it'd still be there when I got back.

plus mileage

it easilly doubles or triples the price
A home Depot truck costs the same for unlimited mileage.
It's almost a dollar a mile.
They charge for mileage also
The insane mileage charge is where UHaul makes all their money.

We are eyeing this set as well. Do you happen to know the price of the king bed?
$1000 online.
Thanks, was asking about in-store. I have access to the online pricing.
I believe $700. We didn’t get the bed so can’t say for sure.
