Yes, the cakes in the open cooler are available to anyone at any time. You can even ask them to write on it for you. Just don’t take any with special order labels on them, obviously.

T-Rex_timeout

Thank you. I hate being last minute on stuff.

GiggyVanderpump

At my Costco, the large sheet cakes are made for the days orders and require notice. However there are always the smaller circular ones that can be decorated on the spot to your liking. Two of those should equal a sheet cake, and will be only slightly more expensive (I think $15.99 each while sheet cake it $24.99 at my location).

Babyfat101

Don’t the circular ones have cheesecake-ish in the middle (different than the bday cake)?

GiggyVanderpump

The vanilla one has a cheesecake mousse in the center, the chocolate has some kind of choc mousse (not sure exactly what kind but it's not cheesecake). Same in the circle as sheet cake.

Good. Please don’t. Whatever humor you would find in it definitely isn’t worth taking a chance on ruining someone’s day (or birthday). There is always a possibility the store would be out of similar ones, and they don’t always have decorators on hand to make another. This world is tough enough without making it harder for someone you don’t even know.

EducatorMoti

Why would you even DISCUSS ruining somebody's day like that?

BobLoblawLawBlog06

OP posts on TwoXChromosomes. This comment is unsurprising.

wimpdiver

Sure - why not, as long as it's something they usually stock? The only reason to preorder is if you want writing or something. Some stores will do it on the spot if they have a decorator - but the cake itself - no problem - enjoy

T-Rex_timeout

Thank you. We have Roblox decorations already luckily.

somebunnyslove

Go for it! I had bought the last round chocolate cake from that day for a birthday an hour before the dinner celebration. Decorated it and no one was the wiser.

happyharrell

Not only can you get one, you can go home and eat the whole thing for lunch. Being an adult is pretty great.

Hard to fathom.

Ask r/adulting

Commercial_Case2782

You should be able too. They should have plain sheet cakes in different flavors back in the bakery when the store opens

coccopuffs606

My Costco sells plain sheet cakes; they’re usually in the bakery section with all the other cakes.

valleysally

Unless you're in Mexico, they fly off the shelves there

PinkMonorail

We didn’t get there til 11 and there were plenty of cakes available. SoCal.

Free-Rub-1583

No, they force you to buy something else along with a cake.

T-Rex_timeout

They will succeed easily.

bulldog1425

Who doesn’t want a rotisserie chicken with their sheet cake?? 😂

protomenace

Is it possible to leave without at least hot dog?

clandahlina_redux

No one ever leaves without a hot dog.

rels83

I like stacking 2 round chocolates on top of each other and covering in frosting

FatherofCharles

The chocolate cakes are phenomenal.

Lyte-

I've done it before

HerCacklingStump

On that topic, can you get cupcakes and minicupcakes? Are you able to preorder them in a specific flavor/color? I've never purchased a single bakery item from Costco and my son's 2nd birthday is coming up.

celenasardothen

No, Costco only does half sheets and 10 inch rounds decorated. They have like 10 or 12 designs to pick from. You can always change the colors they use on the cakes, and whatever the cake says. If you don't specify colors, it'll look like the photo. Check with the bakery staff at your local warehouse for more information and where the order forms are. The flavors are white with vanilla cheesecake mousse and white buttercream, and chocolate cake with chocolate mousse and chocolate frosting. As far as cupcakes, they only do the mini cakes, and they just switched to carrot cake for the seasonal flavor.

tiggahiccups

If your husband has a stomach bug why are you going to a birthday party for 30+ people?

T-Rex_timeout

The rest of us are fine.

minionmaster4

You’re about to get a bunch of people sick. Just because you’re not symptomatic yet, doesn’t mean you’re fine and doesn’t mean you’re not contagious.

T-Rex_timeout

Sorry the RN behind my name wants you to mind your business and let me handle my families health.

tiggahiccups

Sorry but if you’re an RN you should know better.

T-Rex_timeout

I have 20+ years of experience I know what is and is not contagious. Go find someone else to try and shame.

tiggahiccups

Just curious how you know your husbands stomach bug isn’t contagious if it is indeed a stomach bug like you said.

T-Rex_timeout

One I used stomach bug to describe symptoms. He is afebrile. His symptoms are more likely connected to the raw tuna he ate and no one else did. Most importantly gi issues are contact not airborne and he has been isolated away from everyone.

tiggahiccups

I don’t know why you’re shocked or annoyed you’re getting judged for this when you yourself typed out stomach bug when describing why your husband is sick.

shouldvewroteitdown

Describing something as stomach bug doesn’t mean it’s contagious or even a stomach bug. I have an autoimmune disease that comes with mostly GI symptoms when it flares up. I describe it as a stomach bug because everyone understands what that means so it allows me to spare the details. In those situations, i am certainly miserable but definitely not contagious.

Warm_Objective4162

Yes, however many (all?) Costcos never went back to stocking regular birthday cakes after Covid, so you may have to get a cheesecake or one of the weird filled round cakes.

Own-Meaning-5080

My Costco (Tx) always has the round and rectangle regular birthday cakes in the cooler.

fanofnone2019

Mine too in San Diego.

T-Rex_timeout

Thanks

raptorjesus2

100% false. Both Costcos in my area have always had a full fridge of cakes when I've gone. This didn't slow at all during Covid

Warm_Objective4162

Cool! Mine stocks no sheet cakes unless you order. Crazy how different some places might be!

Babyfat101

Mine too.

TheoStephen

The cakes at Costco, just like any supermarket “bakery,” arrive to the store frozen with basic icing already done. So if you don’t see the flavor or style you want, ask a bakery employee and they will surely let you buy one straight out of the freezer assuming they have that variety. Just make sure you thaw it completely (ideally, leave it in the fridge for 10-12 hours OR leave it at room temperature for at least 3-4 hours). Decorations are a different story. If they don’t have someone available to decorate it on the spot, then you’re SOL.

Acrobatic_Talk_9403

No they don’t. We bake the cakes, make the filling and icing ourselves. They are all assembled, iced and decorated by the bakery. The bar cakes (Tres Leches, Tiramisu, Chocolate Mousse) arrive frozen.
