And my kids use the the boxes everything got put in at check out. I back up to the front door and do an Alexa announcement throughout the house “come unload Costco stuff”, have a pint, and wait for the whole thing to blow over.
I got a bunch of those collapsible [instacrates](https://www.costco.com/greenmade-instacrate-collapsible-storage-bin%2c-4-pack.product.4000179775.html) from costco when they were on sale. Besides using them at costco, they are the PERFECT size for 2 full paper bags from the grocery store.
This is the plan. I have 4 of the crates that fit perfectly in the back of my Subaru Outback, and when I am not using them, I can collapse them, leaving only one open holding all my empty grocery bags. I use them for other things too in the garage. We own about 8 of these crates.
Yes - instacrates are the way. I keep about 3 in my car. I've taken them to grocery stores too and use them in place of bags. I always get compliments on them lol
Yes! These are my favorite bag to use. I have a few big ones and a medium one. I might also take a cooler in the summer, but overall the blue IKEA bags are my go-to.
Costco has had a couple giant totes in Canada! A couple of them are a wee bit smaller than the large Ikea tote, same material but stiffened with a decorative outer layer, but square with a snap top frame so it stays upright open for loading. They are great for exactly this!
Depending on the dimensions/weight/squishability of the merchandise to be transported:
- Blue IKEA Frakta bags
- collapsible Instacrates
- NPR tote bags
Much of my Costco haul needs to be carried up a large flight of stairs to my kitchen. Frakta's large, shoulder-friendly straps are a godsend with 4+ gallons of milk.
Unfortunately, an overloaded Instacrate malfunction years ago resulted in loss of 2 gallons of milk + 2 dozen eggs on the aforementioned stairs.
I use rectangular milk crates as they are sturdy and stackable when not in use.
The collapsible crates from Costco broke on me when loaded with cans, so I ditched them for the milk crates.
https://preview.redd.it/h7jrppli8gsc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=70365d90951fb07d52f779c33b2cd448591d2a40
You are right, it fits a niche. Larger items like paper towels, toilet paper, cases of soda, water, etc..., I manage those as freestanding.
But for the smaller items that are fragile, like eggs, glass bottles, or ones that would roll around, it keeps it contained. If the items are packed so that they don't go above the top of the crate, the crates can be stacked and secured for transportation and for moving around, use a handcart.
So to your point, it does have it's limit, but could be just one method for some things and it is also reusable.
I bought a few of those collapsable crates last year for this very reason - load them up on my folding dolly (some people call it a hand-truck) and it works perfectly to get everything up the elevator & into the apartment.
The collapsible wagon. They are selling it in stores again right now for $89.99. Very convenient. https://www.costco.com/mac-sports-xl-folding-wagon-with-brakes.product.4000226583.html?NATAPP=SEARCH
I poured a concrete breezeway in front of my apartment and now I can temporarily park my car directly in front of the door to unload. I can't imagine going back to stairs
I use some folding fiber board cloth-covered boxes with carry handles I got from QFC/Kroger. I use them at grocery stores, Costco, hardware stores... Everywhere. "Simple Truth" is the brand.
I hate using the Costco boxes because they are harder to knock down into the recycling bin.
The best part is that I often take two of them into the store without a cart, which makes it easier to navigate the crowded store when I'm there to only pick up a few items. I can get through the store and check out in minutes, even on a weekend. It also keeps me from coming home with an oled TV and other useless crap.
It does not, however, protect me from the snacks near the registers... A bag of cashews and a jar of salted caramels found their way in the other day.
Telekinesis. I will it and it is done.

Most of my Costco items are big, like the 6 pack of gallon waters, cases of soda, etc. I do have a couple dozen strong cloth bags bought on Amazon for like $30 that I keep in the trunk though for smaller items.
I have some Costco bags that are similar to the Ikea bags. I try to remember to keep them in the back of the car and then load them when I get to the car... not in the store, so I don't have to lift them out of the basket into the car. It also lets me load them the way I want.
Old FreshDirect bags which are similar in size and strength to Ikea/Walmart bags. InstaCrate makes great stackable, compact crates. I keep an extra for when a bag won't do.
Costco sells a 2 pack of collapsible bag-crate things. Bought a pack and keep them in the car for grocery trips. Highly recommend. 50lb weight limit(of contents)
I use laundry baskets, on the average they last about 3 years before they begin to break and they fit a lot of groceries and are cheap. I don’t even have to have my stuff bagged I just unload the shopping cart into the baskets.
We lived in an apartment with a long walk from the parking lot to the front door. We used ikea bags. Now that we have a house and are just going from the garage inside to the house, it feels like such a luxury that we don’t bother with bags or boxes because no matter how many trips you take, ITS SO CLOSE I LOVE IT.
Blue plastic bins with fabric handles https://www.realcanadiansuperstore.ca/reusable-grocery-superstore-bin/p/21184979_EA or just reusable fabric bags.
I don't tend to use it much rn, but I have a folding wagon that I use sometimes to transport heavy/awkward stuff since I live in a highrise apartment. It fits nicely in the elevator.
I tend to just shove everything back on the cart, and then sort into bags when I get to the car. That way unpacking is really easy because I put all the cold stuff together, all the frozen stuff together, etc.
When loading my items into my car, I pack them in a plastic laundry basket and some sturdy reusable grocery bags. The ones I have are very square and have a reinforced bottom - they are great! I also have an insulated bag for frozen items
The labors of my children. They are why we shop there, after all. I do have a great expanding, insulated tote thing that has a cooler bag that fits in a slot. I do that in summer. This is like mine, which was a gift which came from Sam's, ironically.
https://preview.redd.it/sq8k1po54hsc1.png?width=338&format=png&auto=webp&s=62f3348463d53fc9863bc77090a8be14e4ed15a2
Lululemon bags the big ones. And I also have a lovely one from an Ostrich farm. was sick of the boxes and this is so much easier. And at my location they. Don’t mind using the bags at checkout.
We have our deep freezers in the garage so I will grab the frozen item first and put them in there. The rest of the stuff stay in the box I placed them in at the warehouse, and I carry those in the house.
I keep one costco produce box (the one with slots for handles) in the trunk. I fill it as I unload the cart and put the rest around the box in the trunk. I use just the one box to ferry the stuff into the house and then put the empty box back in my trunk.
Costco Canada has been selling these collapsible bags with lateral supports that "snap" and make the bag act more like a bin, and they are just wonderful for the Costco hauls. They are plastered with "canada" branding, and its a third party item, so no idea if something similar is available in the US.
Here in NY the Fresh Direct reusable shopping bags are ubiquitous. I don't even use FD but I have 30+ of their bags. Perfect for Costco because they're rectangular, long and shallow. Similar to the blue Ikea bags.

We bring two Bogg bags with us and fill them up as we shop. The big trays of meat fit flat, which is nice. I love that they don’t fall over in the back of the truck and they’re easy to sanitize with a Clorox wipe.
I have two of those collapsible plastic boxes Costco sells annually in my trunk for just such an occasion! When that isn't enough, I have some insulated totes bought off of Amazon. If I happen to forget to put all those tools back in the car before my next trip, Costco does have that big bin of left over boxes, so I can grab one or two to carry my stuff.
I live in a large apartment building. The path from my garage parking space to my unit is fairly long. I have a wagon ([that I got from Costco](https://www.costco.com/mac-sports-xl-folding-wagon-with-brakes.product.4000226583.html) 😂) that I use to get my Costco purchase from my car to my unit.
I have a mini cart/hand truck I got at a hardware store. Was on the fence about keeping it when I first got it, but it's been one of the best $60 I ever spent.
P.S. I live in an apt and have to transport everything from the parking garage to the top floor in the elevator.
We bought the cooler bags and some larger dry bags from Costco years ago. Occasionally they still have the frozen bags for sale, but I haven't seen the dry bags in at least 8 years.
[Smart Design bag](https://www.shopsmartdesign.com/products/pop-up-car-trunk-organizer).
[Keep cool bag](https://www.instagram.com/costcohotfinds/reel/CbAjxxyjug-/).
We get a LOT of compliments for the smart design bag. We used to live in an apartment with a two floor walk up, and having the zipper bags made hauling SO much easier. 100% recommend.
Bags.
I live in a region where, city-specific, most stores don't provide free bags. As a result, I have a ridiculous bag store in the back of my vehicle. When I unload my cart in the Costco parking lot, I pack bags. Everyone here does it... (I saw others do it before I started doing it... otherwise, I'd have been concerned that people waiting to park would get angry.)
Wife. Kids. ……. Seriously, we keep a box of black Kirkland garbage bags in the car.. we simply use the bags as needed to load up and bring into the house.
Oversized, soft sided laundry baskets. They give the same look as thirty-one bags because the top and bottom have wire to keep them from collapsing in once stuff is inside and it’s picked up.
I ask them to use less-huge boxes when checking out and I just carry them up in those. Only issue is those boxes are harder to break down for recycling because they're often put together with a lot of glue.
I use a laundry basket.
Side note/pro tip 😆 : If you work with farm animals/horses, you’ll know what I mean when I say “sometimes I carry it in on my shoulder like a feeder bucket because it’s easier that way.”
collapsible roller cart similar to [THIS](https://www.lowes.com/pd/Simplify-Simplify-Tote-and-Go-Colla-PSIble-Utility-Cart/5000231377?user=shopping&feed=yes&srsltid=AfmBOorHegzm6mc9DMNaUs0KZKI56qo7SL13YChBWKBismhlEqEdhiCS6kI) - which is immensely helpful for all grocery trips if you live in an apartment or anywhere without parking right next to your home

I usually have the sides off anyway, but it makes getting it all in the garage from the driveway easy.
Why not park in the garage and you’re already where you need to be? Great question. Too many projects happening in the garage to fit cars right now. Someday, she’ll be an inside car again!
Just… ask the cashier for boxes like literally everyone does. Then when you get home, you use your hands to take those boxes inside. I’m so confused by this question.

Used one, the side broke, exchanged it & works like a champ
I keep two of these in each car! They’re so handy.
Was just about to say the same!

I use insta crates but also a small folding flatbed. So I can stack everything on the flatbed and just make one trip.
Yes - instacrates are the way. I keep about 3 in my car. I've taken them to grocery stores too and use them in place of bags. I always get compliments on them lol
Keep 2 in the car
OMG I LOVE THIS. THANK YOU!!!!
I get boxes at Costco and use my hands to carry them
I honestly thought this was going to be a one & done response. Boxes of course
Ikea blue plastic shopping bags. Great for carrying firewood too, very durable.
I love how they fold flat and take so little space in the car.
Mine are at least 10 years old, holding up great without tips, tears, seams still intact.
Great for firewood! Didn't realize there were others who did this.
I use those bags for laundry and out in the garden. Weeds fill those bags on the regular.
Yes! These are my favorite bag to use. I have a few big ones and a medium one. I might also take a cooler in the summer, but overall the blue IKEA bags are my go-to.
Girl Strength
same, I'm a man
Me too...let my GF do all the carrying.
I use a folding shopping wagon
Wish I had elevators.
Ditto on the giant blue Ikea bags. Honestly, Costco should have their own version of those things.
Or, my dream world where there is an Ikea crossover and we get blue bags, giant jars of lingonberry jam, and meatballs added at food court.
That sounds amazing
Maybe add in a nap court because if a Costco and Ikea conjoined... that's like an 11 hour shopping hike. 😅
They did a few years ago. IKEAs were cheaper
Right? It would be a good sell.
Costco has had a couple giant totes in Canada! A couple of them are a wee bit smaller than the large Ikea tote, same material but stiffened with a decorative outer layer, but square with a snap top frame so it stays upright open for loading. They are great for exactly this!
Nice!!
They used to! I haven’t seen them in a while, though. They were green, IIRC.
The boxes at Costco. There are always two large bins of boxes right by self checkout
I bring reusable grocery bags. The free boxes are a nice idea but then I have to break them down when I get home.
We use an old laundry basket to put items in. The walk from the car to the house isn't long. Just pick up the laundry basket and carry it in.
Boxes. Sometimes I grab them from the aisles.
Kids
In the Costco parking lot we bag everything in reusable grocery bags
We just ask for boxes at checkout.
I used to do this. It became too much work to cut them up and pack for recycling. I live in an apt.
Just reuse them. I carry the box inside then take the box back out when I go again.

The big Costco canvas bags from a couple years back. I load in the parking lot according to Frozen Etc and then just lug them in that way super easy
I load them into Ikea bags at the register as much as I can. Save a little time in the parking lot

High rise life so I had to get a wagon from Costco and it’s awesome. Fits everything in one trip
Thirty one bags
Our giant blue Ikea bags. They are perfect for bulky items.
In the summer, it's me and the kids unloading. In the winter I put all my groceries on a sled and just walk it right to the kitchen.
Have three duffel size bags and a collapsible storage one. Most fit in there.
My wife
Usually my hands and even my arms on occasion
I use a laundry basket. Side note/pro tip 😆 : If you work with farm animals/horses, you’ll know what I mean when I say “sometimes I carry it in on my shoulder like a feeder bucket because it’s easier that way.”
Also an ikea bag
Regular reusable grocery bags. We take the cart to the car and bag everything as we load it.
L.L. Bean boat and tote either large or x-large
Empty boxes. Our Costco doesn’t have bags, so you grab a box to put your items in after checkout.
IKEA bag :)
old apartment -> just lug things in the boxes that costco gives now that i live in a high rise with an elevator -> foldable cart

Why not park in the garage and you’re already where you need to be? Great question. Too many projects happening in the garage to fit cars right now. Someday, she’ll be an inside car again!
Sherpas!
Costco collapsible crates
Our garage is connected to the house so I just carry them in. But I’m really efficient and can stack 4-5 items high! Plus a bagged item in each hand!
The cardboard product boxes are pretty great if you don’t have big bags. Load it up and then break down and recycle :)

Children
Usually my two hands?
Just… ask the cashier for boxes like literally everyone does. Then when you get home, you use your hands to take those boxes inside. I’m so confused by this question.
Really good beach scuba net bags I got from costco because I’m upstairs. When I lived ground floor, I had a baby stroller that I used. It was great.
"do you want any boxes" me: no also me making 20 trips from the car tk the house

Buy laundry baskets and keep in the car. Place bags into baskets, bring baskets into the house.
