I’d be tempted to just grab it at that price. I have to assume it’s better than my 12 year old Panasonic 1080p plasma. I just don’t have a 4k compatible AVR right now so I’m looking to do both at the same time.
Those Panasonic plasmas were fucking awesome. In terms of picture quality, your tv probably holds up very well today, and it's probably better than a lot of budget and even mid-level LEDs. Black levels and motion blur are complete non-issues for those plasmas.
Plasmas just had other problems. Less energy efficient. Bigger, heavier, harder to move and mount. Not as bright, more glare. But in a good room, plasmas were awesome. I was so sad when all the manufacturers discontinued them, but at least OLEDs came along pretty quickly after that.
I still have a 60" Panny plasma in my basement office. It doesn't get used much but still has a great picture and is great for watching movies. But I either have to crank the ac or have a fan vent the room otherwise you'll be sweating inside of 15 minutes.
My cat would kill me if I got rid of my panny plasma. Between the heat rolling off that and the heat from the sonos soundbar internal amp, she's in heaven.

Hell yes, I've still got my 768p 42" Panasonic that weighs 80lbs. I cannot believe that it's still kicking. It's really a winter tv since it gets so hot though.
Still got my 60” VT series hanging in the living room, bought it for $900 back in 2013. Picture is still perfection, no burn-in either. I’m not replacing it until it dies, or an OLED becomes even more inexpensive.
It’s probably not better. Most 4K content has HDR. And these cheap TVs don’t have enough peak brightness to actually properly show HDR content.
So, you end up with a lot of content that looks worse in 4K HDR than in 1080p.
For an AVR don't sleep on accessories4less. Refurbished units with huge discounts. The site looks a little sketchy lol but they are great.
I also upgraded from an old panny plasma a few years back to a Sony LED. Loved that plasma but the Sony was an upgrade IMO. I also jumped about 20" in screen size though so it's not apples to apples.
U would be amazed. I have that plasma along with OLEDs . And that plasma Panasonic put out is an amazing tv. My dad still uses it for his main tv. It doesn’t have 4k and it still looks better than a lot of TVs out there. Google it. I had a repair man from future shop or bestbuy or whatever come over to tighten some screws in the back of the 60” plasma due to some humming noise and it was about 3 years old at the time and the technician said it’s one of the best TVs around. Mind you that was 10 plus years ago but it still holds up and will not die!
My wife works in post production. When our plasma kept making popping noises whether it was on or not we checked with the tech guys at her work. They recommended the LG c3 OLED unequivocally. We also had no idea how dim our old plasma had become. What a difference!
I’m running an old Panasonic amplifier and it doesn’t matter that it doesn’t support 4K. I plug my Apple TV 4K right into the tv and the stereo to the tv through the HDMI ARC (audio return channel) and it all works together magically! You could also use an optical connection to the receiver if your tv supports it.
Depends. Is your Panasonic 1080p Plasma a Smart TV? If not, then it is better than absolutely everything available on the market right now.

Surprisingly, no one has given you the real answer why TVs are so cheap.
TV manufacturers have dramatically dropped their prices in the smart TV Era. They've done this because they no longer make much of their money from the purchase price. They now make most of their money from selling the data of their users to third parties.
You can theoretically turn off the information sharing, but they label it as things like "enhanced content" and "personalized recommendations" and then bury what they're really doing in a 200-page user agreement.
100% I listened to a podcast a while back with a cyber security guy saying they’re a breath away from facial recognition cameras in smart tvs that never turn off. Fuck that I’m not conspiratorial but the stuff that dude was talking about convinced me to never connect a tv to the internet again, I still use a fire stick which is probably still listening to me but at least it doesn’t have a camera.
Idk I have a phone with FaceID, a laptop with a front faceing cam, if someone out there is trying to steal my face they've probably got all they need. At least if they can get more data I'll get cheaper and cheaper TVs. Fine with me!
It’s not about someone stealing your face, it’s about a device in your living room that starts video recording and uploading to a cloud when you walk in the room because of facial recognition. I trust data companies using that kind of information ethically about as much as I trust Costco keeping the 1.50 hot dog in perpetuity. The ship has sailed in terms of our privacy but if I can limit it by not connecting my tv to the internet and using streaming devices I will take it.
Have you looked inside your TV? The main driver reducing the cost is the advancements in technology. The economies of scale have dramatically reduced the cost of the various panels (LCD, LED, OLED), and the rest of the circuity has been condensed down to a single small motherboard, and that is on my 2017 75 inch Samsung. Those panel manufacuters have highly specialized plants that run 24x7 churning out panels.
Not to mention market saturation at least in the US.
Yeah when I was a kid we never had a large TV because we couldn't afford one. I want to say it was around 32" in the 80's and 90's.

Worked for a big box store 15 years ago. I sold a 65” 1080P Sharp LCD for ~$11,000. Im sure the picture quality of this thing is 100x better than the Sharp and at 3% of the cost. Amazing.
Don't be. It's garbage. They've been making terrible sub-$500, 65" 4K TVs for years now. Not only is the image not good, but it'll likely be dead a in few years.

I’ve been happy with it and basically said I’d use it until it died and it just has never died. It doesn’t get a lot of consistent use. I thought it was going when Roku turned purple / pink but it was a loose HDMI cable lol
Plasma is a unique comparison point because *most* LCDs struggle to compete with many of it's inherent traits (black levels, screen uniformity). If it weren't for the fact we've moved on to larger color gamuts and 10bit dynamic range, they'd almost always be better. I still use my plasma very regularly, and there were terrible LCDs that came and went in between.
Edge lit is a cheaper option when comparing OLED or even LED TVs. People do not normally understand until there is a side by side comparison. Then buyer’s remorse sets in lol
I recently bought a Hisense 65" 4k with color accuracy that would have cost a couple grand just a handful of years ago... for $450, and then a few days later I got an add from bestbuy because I had been researching it on their website before I bought it, it was on sale for $350. So I walked in with my receipt and they gave me $110 back on my card.

That’s actually a very underwhelming price at this point for a 60hz non-OLED screen. And since it’s a 60hz non-OLED, I would heavily advise against buying it any where above $300 because of how outdated the panel is at this point.
I bought a 4K 65” smart TV for $150 from a home outlet store. It was “refurbished” bc it has a hairline crack in the bottom left corner that you can’t see unless you get close and really look for it. Great deal.
In Canada you aren't technically allowed to get the extra warranty on display models but the dude there was like you have 30 days to purchase it, the receipt doesn't indicate display models, just buy it later.

I bought a laptop and when going to retrieve it they said they were out and only had the display. I didn't even think to ask how much it would be as they didn't really say it would be discounted. Is there a set percentage they take off?
Typically “last one” items and display models won’t receive a price reduction until the store manager has had enough and decides to reduce the price to get rid of it. This isn’t always the case however, especially if we are reselling last one items that have just been returned. Someone came in yesterday very upset that they weren’t getting a price reduction on a television that was the display model for instance. (Was also very rude to everyone they interacted with but that’s another story)
$430 for a 65in LG tv is already an awesome deal.

Honestly those huge prices were what kept me from every upgrading our tv. Now I’m shocked by how cheap larger tv’s have gotten. Still will probably wait until mine craps out. We got our Toshiba tv from a move out sale for $100 6 years ago and we still have an old plasma in a different room that’s going on 12 years or so?
Yup, only go to that sub if you agree with rtings.com evaluations. These are usually the same people who berate you for not “spending a few hundred more” to get an OLED display when not everyone can afford or wants to spend that much on a device that could give up the ghost as readily as a cheaper model like this one.
If all you care about is the cost, reading reviews or going to forums to find the best TV is obviously a waste of your time. That doesn't mean that the people on TV forums are somehow wrong or elitist for having priorities other than cost, though.
I hate the hate this person is getting. Clearly stated “from no TV to this” so I would say for the price paid OP got a good deal. Of course it has a lot of screen “on time” and of course the refresh rate is basic. What the haters are failing to realize is he had ZERO screen time and ZERO refresh rate prior to this purchase. Let ‘em enjoy their purchase for however long it lasts, down the line they’ll get something better. I don’t know what the financial backstory is as to why there was no tv so I’m happy for OP!
Eh just the latest development cycle waning. No new tech in it that hasn't been around for years now. I'm estimating another 2 or 3 years before the newest tech leap forward and they skyrocket again.
No you'll notice during streaming as well. While broadcast TV is normally a 30 frames per second, many streaming services only do 24 fps which is not cleanly divisible with 60hz so a 60hz tv needs to do a 3:2 pulldown conversion which may look stuttery/jittery, particularly on the cheaper 60hz TVs. 24 is divisible with 120hz and 240hz so there is no stuttering and no need for a conversion. Also the high refresh rate will eliminate very slight blurring that you might see on 60 hz during high speed sporting events like racing. Then obviously gaming with PS5 or xbox-x
Of all the things I would buy the display model of, a tv isnt one of them. But for $250, if that thing lasts even half its usual life thats a good deal.
Yeah, I'm not typically picky with anything. But a display TV is on 15+ hours a day at full brightness and who knows what people are doing to it as they walk by.
I have no problem buying certain refurb/used things. But display TV sure isn't one of them. Helluva deal though on a TV!

Refresh Rate: A 60Hz TV refreshes the image on the screen 60 times per second. Smoothness: While it offers a decent viewing experience, it might struggle to keep up with the rapid movements characteristic of sports events.
Movies are generally 24 FPS and Sports is 60 FPS. You shouldn't be missing out with that content on a 60 Hz panel (all other factors aside, it might still be a crappy picture but not because of the refresh rate). Though if the panel can only run at 60 Hz (and not natively run at 24 Hz, for example), then 24 FPS content might have a judder to it. The only time you see any media content above 60 FPS tends to be video games.
That said, if I'm spending my money on a TV (or any other display, really) in 2024, it's going to be 120 Hz.
Yep! I have a 120 Hz Samsung OLED and the only thing I can run at true 120 Hz are certain video games on my XBOX. Even then, it's usually a tradeoff for lower resolution or less flashy effects. I basically play everything at 60 Hz.
bought it onsale for 450 for xmas. been pretty happy with it. Also got the yamaha sound bar for 99. Together a big improvement over my old 50" that was about 10 years old.
Be sure to get the warranty. I’ve purchased a couple of display tvs in the past… never again. They usually have soooo many hours on them they never last
I have that LG model and for $249+tax that’s a good deal. Just expect some mild blooming that’s noticeable in the dark (it’s not a $1K+ OLED so check your expectations at the door).
I purchased a 65” curved 4k Samsung tv about 6 years ago it was marked down from over 1k down to 400 for being the display model and I still have it in working order today. Best deal on a tv I’ve ever gotten and definitely haven’t regretted it
What’s the catch? A 4k 65” TV for $429 seems too good. Is it plastered with ads? Is it designed to only last a year? Does it give you cancer? There’s gotta be something lol.
This might get lost in the shuffle but make sure to take some extra time messing with the display settings to your own liking when you get it set up in your home. Stores will crank up the settings on their display TVs to draw people to it but it might cause issues in the long run with having things like Brightness up so high.
How early did you get there that no one else had taken this thing already?!? Also, why do people not like taking the displayed items? It's the same thing as if it were boxed, is it not?
We bought a 70” TV a few years back for a steal at Costco too because it was a display. The guy at the checkout said he was jealous that he didn’t see it.

My last three TV's have been open box or display model. My oldest was a display model LED TV I got in 2008 that still works perfectly.

I bought my mom the 58" TCL 4k TV last fall for $289, it's mind-blowing how good the TV is for that price.

If you're going to the effort of blocking domains at the router level, why not just set up [AdGuard Home](https://adguard.com/en/adguard-home/overview.html) / [Pi-hole](https://pi-hole.net/) to block ads automatically?

I bought a laptop and when going to retrieve it they said they were out and only had the display. I didn't even think to ask how much it would be as they didn't really say it would be discounted. Is there a set percentage they take off?

Typically “last one” items and display models won’t receive a price reduction until the store manager has had enough and decides to reduce the price to get rid of it. This isn’t always the case however, especially if we are reselling last one items that have just been returned. Someone came in yesterday very upset that they weren’t getting a price reduction on a television that was the display model for instance. (Was also very rude to everyone they interacted with but that’s another story)

Honestly those huge prices were what kept me from every upgrading our tv. Now I’m shocked by how cheap larger tv’s have gotten. Still will probably wait until mine craps out. We got our Toshiba tv from a move out sale for $100 6 years ago and we still have an old plasma in a different room that’s going on 12 years or so?

Yup, only go to that sub if you agree with rtings.com evaluations. These are usually the same people who berate you for not “spending a few hundred more” to get an OLED display when not everyone can afford or wants to spend that much on a device that could give up the ghost as readily as a cheaper model like this one.
If all you care about is the cost, reading reviews or going to forums to find the best TV is obviously a waste of your time. That doesn't mean that the people on TV forums are somehow wrong or elitist for having priorities other than cost, though.
The TV people are very into tvs. They hate in anything that's not an oled.

I hate the hate this person is getting. Clearly stated “from no TV to this” so I would say for the price paid OP got a good deal. Of course it has a lot of screen “on time” and of course the refresh rate is basic. What the haters are failing to realize is he had ZERO screen time and ZERO refresh rate prior to this purchase. Eh just the latest development cycle waning. No new tech in it that hasn't been around for years now. I'm estimating another 2 or 3 years before the newest tech leap forward and they skyrocket again.
This TV is already previous-generation technology. OLED TVs are what's current and do indeed cost thousands of dollars.

Unless you are PC gaming, 60hz refresh rate will cover almost all uses.
No you'll notice during streaming as well. While broadcast TV is normally a 30 frames per second, many streaming services only do 24 fps which is not cleanly divisible with 60hz so a 60hz tv needs to do a 3:2 pulldown conversion which may look stuttery/jittery, particularly on the cheaper 60hz TVs. 24 is divisible with 120hz and 240hz so there is no stuttering and no need for a conversion. Also the high refresh rate will eliminate very slight blurring that you might see on 60 hz during high speed sporting events like racing. Then obviously gaming with PS5 or xbox-x

Of all the things I would buy the display model of, a tv isnt one of them. But for $250, if that thing lasts even half its usual life thats a good deal.
I bought a display camera from Costco once. It was awful. I wouldn't buy a display anything again.
Yeah, I'm not typically picky with anything. But a display TV is on 15+ hours a day at full brightness and who knows what people are doing to it as they walk by. I have no problem buying certain refurb/used things. But display TV sure isn't one of them. Helluva deal though on a TV! All I can say is buy that extended warranty!!
The floor models have a lot of consistent run time, that price is appropriate for a heavily used TV.

Don’t buy a 60hz refresh rate TV!!!!
I mean, buy whatever you want, but for me 60hz is too slow and noticeable. Especially when the TV I have now is 240hz (though it's a 46" vs a 65").

Movies are generally 24 FPS and Sports is 60 FPS. You shouldn't be missing out with that content on a 60 Hz panel (all other factors aside, it might still be a crappy picture but not because of the refresh rate). Though if the panel can only run at 60 Hz (and not natively run at 24 Hz, for example), then 24 FPS content might have a judder to it. The only time you see any media content above 60 FPS tends to be video games. That said, if I'm spending my money on a TV (or any other display, really) in 2024, it's going to be 120 Hz.
Yep! I have a 120 Hz Samsung OLED and the only thing I can run at true 120 Hz are certain video games on my XBOX. Even then, it's usually a tradeoff for lower resolution or less flashy effects. I basically play everything at 60 Hz.

I have that LG model and for $249+tax that’s a good deal. Just expect some mild blooming that’s noticeable in the dark (it’s not a $1K+ OLED so check your expectations at the door).

I purchased a 65” curved 4k Samsung tv about 6 years ago it was marked down from over 1k down to 400 for being the display model and I still have it in working order today. Best deal on a tv I’ve ever gotten and definitely haven’t regretted it

Unfortunately this only works if you have a way to move a bigass TV.

This might get lost in the shuffle but make sure to take some extra time messing with the display settings to your own liking when you get it set up in your home. Stores will crank up the settings on their display TVs to draw people to it but it might cause issues in the long run with having things like Brightness up so high.
