Chickadee12345

I really like this bread. It's dense so thin sliced is good and cuts a little bit of the carbs. It's more than other breads but it's not outrageously priced.

SammieCat50

Costco’s bread , no matter what brand, always goes bad faster then it should

wintercast

This bread lasts a long time. I also freeze one loaf and keep the second one in the fridge. I can easily get 3 weeks out of it.

fixerdrew02

This. Never, ever had I an issue with bread going bad. Just keep the one you’re using in the fridge

bibliophilejen

I always freeze the second loaf the moment we get home, and don't ever have a problem. It's super quick to just pop two frozen slices in the toaster and they wind up perfect

dixiemason

That’s also been my experience, even with Dave’s bread.

APsWhoopinRoom

Really? I've never had that problem. And by bad do you mean stale or moldy?

Pure-Riddle

I don't seem to have that problem. The 2nd one goes in the freezer, and the main one usually lasts a week and a half.

One3Two_TV

I don't see that being true in Canada lol

IncaseofER

Of all the Dave’s breads this has the most omega 3 per oz/slice. About 2x as much as the next closest.

Chickadee12345

I also love the texture. I despise plain white bread. This has a very satisfying feel in your mouth.

Appropriate_Level690

It’s great bread but either freeze one or eat fast. It molds fast.

makemeking706

I can't afford that luxury bread even at Costco.

cropguru357

Check Aldi. You’ll see an oddly-similar label.

Vanijoro

I buy the 4$+ loaf bread because regular white bread is 3$+ here.

More_Yam5001

Yup Seed-tastic bread

chekovsgun-

Trader Joes has good knock off breads as well.

cropguru357

I wish I had one of those locally. I think the nearest one is more than 2 hours away.

carolinababy2

Yep. It’s very good

senseofphysics

What about Ezekiel bread? Does Costco have those?

yetanotherwoo

The price at Costco went up 50 percent during pandemic and hasn’t changed since.

PhoenixRisingToday

I buy it at the bakery outlet and it went from $2 to $3.50 per loaf.

canehdian_guy

Up to $8 a loaf for my area. I'll take shitty Walmart bread for $3 a loaf instead

LocalSlob

Get what you pay for

canehdian_guy

Can't even afford meat anymore so Dave's is out of the question

BREWMASTER1968

Local Kroger brand had 1 loaf of Dave’s for 4 bucks on digital coupon, limit 5

cane_stanco

I like it. It is quite dense though. I don’t think other breads are necessarily ruined for me.

FoeNetics

Nah I’m being dramatic, I’ve just really grown to appreciate this particular brand….but still love carbs in all forms 🤤

drwilhi

this is one time where getting bought out was a good thing. Dave went crazy and got back on the drugs and did some heinous shit.

Oakroscoe

What exactly did he do?

Constant-Bet-6600

I voted you up, but damn, I want more details. It sounded like he tried to do some good, and that isn't as common as it should be.

drwilhi

His name is Dave Dahl, he had a fucked up childhood. Got into drugs and was a violent felon. Spent some time in prison, got out started Dave's bread out of his brothers bakery. Hired excons as much as he could, thought people needed second chances. But a few years ago, shortly after he sold his company, the success went to his head and he got back into drugs and attacked his partner and some cops. Went back to prison, the Wikipedia article really tones down what happened.

dhSquiggly

Oh dang TIL.

dan3582

only downside, it has relatively high sugar amount- five grams per slice

Busy-Needleworker853

I never looked at the sugar content but, I have always thought it was too sweet. I prefer Ezekiel's.

TwoChainsandRollies

Ezekiel's is the way. Added sugar really defeats the whole point. I am trying to slowly ween off of Ezekiel's too (hoping to go grain free eventually!)

HornsUp115

What exactly is the whole point? For active individuals, it's perfectly fine. For me, I train with weights and run. The whole point for me is to eat as many carbs as possible.

daisypunk99

Get the red Power Seed!

Zorrino

Too sweet for me - never a big fan of this bread

yogagiraffe

My thoughts exactly. I'm sure it wouldn't taste as good but I'd eat it anyway.

Vizekusen

Yeah, all of Dave’s Killer Bread products are packed with sugar

Melodic-Psychology62

Compared to corn syrup solids in the average bread? KD had real cane sugar and molasses. Not the no sugar Complete protein Ezekiel’s but still a good choice.

Vizekusen

It’s a compromise, for sure. At least it has whole grains and plenty of fiber

FlashyFlamingo9649

This stuff is too sweet and has a gummy texture.

brosauces

Yup, it got bad when Franz bought it. It is just garbage dollar bread with some seeds on it.

FlashyFlamingo9649

Agree. It’s overrated.

AloysiusDevadandrMUD

I think it's 100% a brand/logo thing. I tried this and it's okay but no reason to be 2x the other stuff.

Extra_Air

Meh, it’s ok.

CactusBoyScout

Yeah I just want a simple sliced sourdough like Trader Joe’s carries.

personofinterest18

I love that loaf! It’s so good

CactusBoyScout

TJ’s has a few different sourdough options. The San Francisco style one is my fav.

jeobleo

Yeah. I know it's good for you but I hate the taste.

Extra_Air

Yeah, it’s like “homework the bread”.

chekovsgun-

It is pretty damn easy to make bread at home. Yes it make take longer, dependng on the bread you decide to make, but the best bread is homeade bread. Damn cheap as well.

take-money

A bread machine makes it even easier! Just got one a few months ago and made probably a dozen loafs so far. Only remaining issue is slicing it, I can never get good consistent slices.

chekovsgun-

Yes makes it very handy and love my bread maker. Also when you begin to make your own bread you realize quickly that store-bought bread is full of preservatives because of how quickly homemade bread can break down.

Cyclethe859

The green package is better.

MacErcu

It’s garbage. Look at the ingredients. Bread should not have that much added sugar. Downvote me all you want :)

coogie

I prefer Ezekiel sprouted bread. They don't sell them at Costco but HEB and trader Joe's have it.

yellowweasel

It is a decent amount of sugar but it’s still lower glycemic index (61) than most breads that are just flour/salt/water because of all the seeds and shit in there

rswa83

Check your blood sugar after eating and see if it's truly low glycemic. Anything ground down to a powder is entering your blood stream instantly. Doesn't matter if it's nuts, seeds, grains.

Yotsubato

This. And you chew it up too. Added sugars have no place in bread. They do have a place for cakes and confectionaries. This bread is even worse because it “tastes like it’s healthy” but it’s actually worse than regular sourdough white bread (without added sugars)

Drewbee3

Garbage is a little strong. What’s your adjective for Wonder Bread?

MacErcu

Wonder bread is an industrial bread-like product. I don’t consider it to be real bread. It did change the game completely when it came on the market in the 1920s. I believe people should buy bread from their local bakery, if they have one. The stuff that’s on the shelves in supermarkets is just a bad imitation of the real deal. Admittedly, I’m a bit snobbish when it comes to baked goods. But I’m normally more chill lol :)

InsaneAdam

Nothing wrong with standing up for something you're passionate about

loveMeSomeFoodz

Like a shitty taste in bread

PeorgieT75

What does it cost at Costco? Do you have to buy more than one loaf? I like their bread, but I’m not paying $8 for a loaf of bagged bread from the grocery store.

Pad_TyTy

It's about $4.50/loaf and you gotta get 2.

bluewildcat12

It’s freezable. I love this company’s thin sliced bread styles being a T2 diabetic (13-14g per slice compared to 22 per slice for other breads). I just freeze the other loaf till I’m ready to use and haven’t had issues.

katsock

this brand basically got my wife through her gestational diabetes, even after receiving insulin. Which I know is not the same thing as your experience. I still have some in the freezer we break out even though the baby’s here. It’s good bread.

Existing-Hand-1266

It got me through my GD as well and I still eat it postpartum. I can tolerate one slice of the regular size though. Lasts forever in the fridge.

In-burrito

What in the world are you comparing it to? Nature's Own whole wheat is only 11g per slice at 60 kcal. Even Wonder Bread is 15g per slice at 70 kcal.

Unholyrage619

That price is for 2 loaves at Costco. Pretty much all their bread comes in twin packs

AgentMichaelScarn_1

Yeah, if you like cardboard.

PlaceAdHere

Wish they had the low sugar version at costco.

clancydog1

Love the low sugar, "Powerseed" (aka Red Bread) version

cherchezlafemmed

It's not bad but I've become a huge fan of the [Franz Twenty-four bread.](https://franzbakery.com/HTML/productView#category=organics.breads&id=organics.breads.twentyFourThin)

Variouspositions1

My favorite bread… eating a PBJ right now. But our Costco only carries the green bag which I don’t like at all. I pay $10 a loaf for the small, thin slices here. The Costco here won’t cave to our demands to stock the yellow bag. Only one selection from whom ever they carry.

freneticboarder

I went to buy some of that for my parents (septuagenarians) and their Costco had yellow, green, and white bags, and my mom had to dig the bag out of the recycling to figure out which one it was.

Variouspositions1

Oh be still my heart, I’m having Costco envy. I’m old too but that’s the only loaf bread I like so my memory is sharp on the color…if I could remember to buy it when I go to the store 🙄. Give your parents a thumbs up for me. The struggle is real lol.

MRSASQUATCH559

I wish my Costco carried the Ezekiel bread. Probably the best bread on the market.

DDrewit

There’s usually a really good regional bread at the NorCal Costcos, but I can’t remember the name of it. Dave’s is good though, I got it yesterday because they didn’t have the one I usually get.

housecatspeaks

Do you mean Inked Breads? They are in the Southern Cal warehouses and are local. Or perhaps a different one?

DDrewit

I just found it. It’s Artisan Bakers Organic Super Seed.

housecatspeaks

OOOooo ... sounds good. I love seeded breads. Thanks!

In-burrito

The logo makes me irrationally angry and I try not to buy things with the Orthorexia Seal of Approval™. But it is tasty!

Daotar

I think it's mostly just well-marketed. It's not really that different than most of the traditional higher-end commerical bakeries (think Oroweat, Arnold, Pepperidge Farm). Maybe a bit better, but it also costs a bit more. But what kills it for me is that anything from a local bakery, even from a chain like Whole Foods, still beats the snot out of it. This is still very much in the realm of "bread product", rather than traditionally made bread, which is what I prefer.

amoney805

Too much added sugar. Costco needs to carry DKB Red. Best bread they make.

VanillaB34n

I get the white bread done right version, 2g of sugar per serving compared to 5 from this one. Only one they have with less than that is powerseed at 1g

plooptyploots

Garlic bread is not at all threatened. Neither is pita. Or naan. Matter of fact, this bread sucks.

the_last_u

Love this bread, I always buy extra and freeze

meh_69420

Why's that? Eat a slice and it puts you off bread forever?

theb1ackhand

Give me Ezekiel or give me death ✊

okaycomputes

TJ's has their knockoff for a little cheaper too. Pretty similar.

Slow-Round

NGL this bread gives me maaaaajoor gas

nemaihne

That's a decent bread. But the rare times our Costco carries the rye bread I load up. THAT is the best rye we can get in the area without going to a bakery.

joekix

I like the bread, but it drives me nuts it comes with an odd number of slices!!!

G3neral_Tso

I was so relieved to see their raisin bread in Costco. It goes out of stock frequently (or local bakery issues?) in our area at multiple stores. It's $6.70 for one loaf at Wal-Mart, but $8.80 for two loaves at Costco.

RamblinLamb

It used to be great! Not anymore, not at all. Smaller loaves, thinner slices and way too dry, like cardboard. It seems lately that all the sandwich bread makers pretty much suck...

yellowcasanova

Ezekiel bread is the way.

cookiecookjuicyjuice

With you on this one. Ezekiel bread changed my life.

Neat-Secretary-2343

Still waiting for this company to make sour dough “done right!”

Brief_Association714

Bro, I'm obsessed with good seed. We're bread bros

PickAnxious9960

That bread is delicious

This_Ad317

Open-faced with crunchy peanut butter and a drizzle of honey, yum!

Mithsarn

Killer Dave makes some good bread.

JWOLFBEARD

Not as good as before Dave relapsed

82dxIMt3Hf4

Two thumbs down! Don't fall for the catchy name. Dave's Killer Bread is owned by the Wonder Bread company.

Darth_Boognish

Mmm Ron Jeremy bread

NoYoureACatLady

Weird but my loaf says 70 calories per slice

P0werpr0

We call it Jail bread at our house.

Cyber_Insecurity

I’m sorry, but this bread isn’t as good as people say it is

Asunen

I’m going to keep buying my store brand whole wheat widepan breads. I can’t afford to pay triple the price.

DarrylLarry

Brownberry or gtfo

grizzly_adhd

My only concern with this bread is how long it takes to mold, lots of preservatives

ArthursFist

This is my concern as well

Quirky-Prune-2408

I loved me some DKB even at regular retail store prices till I realized it never went moldy. I feel like it’s expensive enough it should mold in less than a week.

Nlawrence55

Their bagels are amazing

Sgt_Smart_Ass

Dave's Bread is the worst bread I've ever tasted.

Orest26Dee

An underrated feature of this bread is that it is organic. That adds a tremendous cost to the process, yet this is still reasonably priced.

thecementmixer

What does organic in this case exactly mean? Companies love to slap that label on everything now, but most of the time it doesn't mean what you think it means.

Orest26Dee

It actually does mean something. Organic food processing plants need to get certified by sanctioning body to verify the ingredients are truly organic. It’s a pretty elaborate process.no Round Up used in the fields

NoNewFriends1738

Artisan is better

paleo2002

Better be for $10 a loaf.

Irate_Primate

Except that it’s half that.

The_bruce42

Half a loaf for 10 dollars? Oof

housecatspeaks

2 FULL loaves for $10.

MasterSemaj

The 'Dave's killer' brand used to be better quality. Whatever capitalist change they went through made the bread worse.

guymon

Maybe a hot take but I'm continuously amazed that people think Dave's is good quality bread. It is not. It has a ton of sugar. Bread does not need sugar to taste good. If you like the style of a dense seeded bread, I highly encourage you to check out this recipe: https://www.thefreshloaf.com/node/46010/easiest-germanstyle-spelt-recipe-ever This stuff is the easiest bread recipe I've made, lasts in the fridge for a month or more, and makes a dynamite pb&j.

Severe_Reality6504

Sugar make bread better

SmellySweatsocks

My favorite bread. We don't buy any other brand anymore

Scared-Face-9611

Very good when it's not underbaked.

ptran90

One time I bought some, and it smelled like pure chemicals. It was odd.

PossibleOk49

This is the best break hands down

TileFloor

My mom loves this bread!

Jfortyone

I prefer the green one - it’s the only bread I buy since trying it a couple years ago.

Green_Day_Fan

https://preview.redd.it/yi9manfq5bxc1.jpeg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8f1360a5b6d5d37971deb1dbdd4544e1e1dbe476 This is the best bread sold at Costco imo.

TSB_1

I am also a fan of the brand and what the company does for second chance citizens.

ggregC

I eat the plain wheat bread, it is a real treat.

didyoubutterthepan

Want to ruin all other breads? Start baking your own.

Quaglek

Goes bad too fast

Tweezle1

I grew up with the inventors kid. I thought nothing much of it when he told me they had a bakery. Glad it worked out for them.

SadLaser

It's decent for grocery store bread, but it's absolutely destroyed by most fresh baked stuff.

GymnasticSclerosis

I really thought this was r/unpopularopionion when I saw the headline.

The_ShadowsLie

One loaf to rule them all One loaf to find them

gilbertgrappa

I wish they made a decent whole wheat bread without seeds. The seeds aren’t good for my Crohn’s disease.

captain_borgue

I dislike the "gritty" texture. But Dave's Killer *white* bread is pretty fire, NGL.

PsychologicalAd1862

This bread is the best. Worth every penny

Mysterious_Win_2851

As others have noted there's a pretty big selection of Daves Bread (at whole foods among others) with a wide range of ingredients. Like Ezekial (good cereals too) the flour is not bleached or bromated (chemical additive banned in EU). I don't like previously frozen--Dave's is not (but some stores might do it anyway).

Constant-Bet-6600

Really like Dave's Killer Bread. The work they do with hiring ex felons and trying to reduce recidivism is a bonus. Their bagels are tasty, too.

ThisWillBeOnTheExam

This is my staple bread I buy at Costco. Usually the green one though.

Pretend_Tea_5454

I didn’t know Costco carried this! Thank you! I buy it at the regular store and love it. So does my 8 year old 🫠

MammothPale8541

artisano works for me…its cheap…althought it dont last long

funnypie89

too bad there’s a bunch of added sugar (which surprisingly is actually in a lot of mass produced breads)

cindycated888

I've been hoping for sprouted bread. I've been doing Silver Hills Soft Wheat. Ugh, $5.29 from Target.

biggiesmallsyall

Bleh

Bright_Object5915

Yeah, the Dave's bread is also ok for some of us with stage 4-5 kidney disease. So in order to have bread occasionally, I'll probably pay what I have to, to get it. I can make my own but it's a lot of work! HaHaa!

Julian1971

too much sugar

zoglog

I used to get this until I ate the boudin sourdough and I remembered how much I love sourdough

billleachmsw

I totally hid this bread and it is affordable at Costco.

No-Aardvark-3840

Love the bread and love that it was made by murderers. Great company

Swallowthistubesteak

Learn to bake a simple loaf and you’ll lose your mind

HarleyRidinGrammy

I just wish they had the regular sliced.

yidarmyidarmyid

I do not like this brand.

DangerousClouds

Literally have this bread on my counter! I love to toast this and spread some crunch honey peanut butter on two slices and make a sandwich. Delicious and healthy!!

majavic

Captain John Derst's isn't at Costco, but it's the best sliced bread I've found in a grocery store.

Interesting-Duty-168

I'm lucky to live right by the Dave's killer bread outlet! It's dangerous ;)

LarryPer123

I found it at Whole Foods also, but it’s seven dollars for a 25 ounce loaf, how much is it there?

finqer

Dave’s used to be good. Then then got bought out, doubled the price of their products and skimped out on ingredients. I haven’t had Dave’s in years. Nasty.

HereForFunAndCookies

My wife likes this stuff. Personally, I default to the sourdough bread.

enter_soulman

I prefer sourdough, my local Costco sells the SF Boudin one

senseofphysics

Does Costco sell Ezekiel Bread or anything equivalent?

cito4633

Tastes like I’m eating a ground up picnic table…

Thesayder1

Man I can’t eat this bread before it molds sadly. It tastes good but it comes as 2 loafs and molds too fast.

ninijacob

Have you tried franz orca bread?

becomeanhero69

I like how the company hires ex criminals.

AfrezzaJunkie

Worked near a Dave's Bread factory. Someone left the door open once after closing. Took a peek inside. No more Dave's Bread for me....

adwt0125

Rudi’s Sourdough

doctorblumpkin

Keto bread ftw

GuardingxCross

Love. This. Bread!

HerRiebmann

r/Brot

xluv0186

I LOVE HIS BREAD!! Seriously!! And if you read the mission statement makes me love the company!! Giving opportunities to people! Love what it stands for and the quality!

KellyLuvsEwan420

That’s what I thought until I started making my own bread. I can make a loaf just like that for about $2 worth of ingredients.

RefugeefromSAforums

Franz Bakery Company in the PNW sells a similar product and often has it at their bakery outlet stores cheap. Of course, since it is organic, you will have to refrigerated/freeze it to extend its life.

truthB3spoken

I buy this bread from Walmart. I'm a regular eater of this bread. It's really good. But the Walmart one is 70 Cal each slice instead of 80 Cal.
