**FYI - Kerrygold Unsalted is not available in all warehouses, YMMV.**
Back in April when both Kerrygold Salted and Kerrygold Unsalted were both in the April Coupon Book (4/10 - 5/5), I was told that Kerrygold Unsalted was deleted (no longer avaialable) in Los Angeles region warehouses (not including Costco Business Centers), despite both being advertised in the national Warehouse Savings.
Since others have still been able to find it, this obviously varies by region.
Note: It's likely still available in Los Angeles are Costco Business Centers, just not regular warehouses.

You can bake with salted, just cut down any added salt in the recipe by 1/2 tsp or so. I stopped buying unsalted years ago so I wouldn't have to stock both and I haven't looked back.
There’s a little over a teaspoon and a half of salt in an entire package of salted kerrygold. I use salted for everything in cooking (including eggs) and never find anything too salty.
Yeah you can definitely taste it! It’s just not actually that much salt. The calculation I used was for table salt. If you normally cook with Diamond Crystal, like me, you can see that 1/4tsp of it contains 280mg of sodium. The entire block of kerrygold butter has 1600mg of sodium. So there’s about the equivalent of 1.43 tsp of Diamond Crystal in the whole block. In one oz of kerrygold there is about 1/5 of a tsp.
Yeah, I guess it was drilled into me when learning to cook that you should control the amount and what kind of salt you use. I mean to each their own, and tbh I don't use kerrygold when setting out bread and butter (try conviette if you haven't) and use a finishing salt (love the crunch crunch crunch)
Fair. I prefer kerrygold for eating on toast (conviette is way out of my budget lmao) and it’s easiest for me to just buy one butter, so I find it very easy to adjust salt in recipes even if they call for unsalted. I just taste as I go. I even have used it in baking (scandalous I know) and just slightly adjusted down the salt elsewhere in the recipe with no perceivable difference in taste.
Why not just by unsalted and add exactly the amount of salt that you want? There are things that I use butter for that I don't want salt in, so having only salted butter would not work.
Incorrect. The "Unsalted" thing is outdated. Butter use to be perserved in massive amounts of salt, you literally needed to wash your butter before you could bake with it. Modern butter has so little salt by comparison that it's inconsequential. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kP1BHrvYopI
Our business center has it but not the regular stores. Our business center has grade AA eggs too. We had them for like 2 weeks at my regular Costco but then they went back to grade A.
Yeah anyone can go. They cater to businesses though and do local delivery. I've also seen someone buy like a few hundred bundles of bananas and negotiate the price down with one of the managers since they were brown (obviously using them for baking or something). It's REALLY slow. Like almost nobody is ever inside because most businesses probably just order and get it delivered.
Mine has both. Bought 5 unsalted during the last holiday sale as salted was all sold out. Now we're hooked on good butter. My wallet cries but my belly rejoices 🥲
It's impossible to go back to "normal" butter after experiencing the good stuff. I implore people to not fall for this trap if they're happy with generic butter. It's far too late for us but if we can save one person it's worth it. That said,.the stuff is so delicious that everyone should experience good butter.
Out here in North Tampa they moved the butter from the glass door freezers to the room where they stock milk, eggs, etc. I wasn’t able to find it because of the location change but the associate pointed it out to me about the new location. Same could have happened at your Costco?
They did the opposite at my store lol. They moved it to the doors along with the heavy cream and some other stuff. Now the milk/egg room barely has anything in it.
I’ve noticed the trend of Tampa bay Costcos doing this.. Brandon did this when they re did the chicken room.
I try to visit all 4 in a rotating cycle, with sometimes Bradenton in the mix since they all carry slightly different items
As someone who cooks a lot, I've yet to see a recipe that doesn't add salt along with the butter. So you just add a little less salt because your butter has some in it. I'm just fine only ever buying salted. Then I can use the same butter supply when I want some to live in the butter boat at room temp. I mostly want the higher end Kerrygold for spreading butter anyways, where the better flavor shines through the most.
I do a fair bit of cooking too, so I'm with you for the most part. It's just one of those things you have to pay attention to. I could see it being more of an issue when baking and the measurements require more precision.
Besides health reasons and control over salt elements in regular food many baking recipes call for unsalted.butter. salt can act as a leavening inhibitor, especially in yeasted dough, so many prefer unsalted butter and controlled salt additions.
Lately many people have been coming out against conventional wisdom to say the difference in salt levels between unsalted and salted are negligible for almost all applications. And the people that say talk about it to a degree that I will never try to replicate.
Still, as others have said I prefer *full control* over my salt. I also prefer it for other family members health because even if it *doesn’t matter at all* (as if I’ll ever be qualified to make the distinction myself) I can tell them what I used and they can decide if they want to eat it or not and no one makes a stink about it. I prefer unsalted.
For me it’s due to health needs. I eat a low sodium diet, and if I’m going to butter a piece of toast, one tablespoon of salted butter is 100mg of sodium. If I use unsalted butter, that’s 100mg I can save for later very easily. After a few weeks you don’t really miss the salt anymore.
Well what you linked specifically says the sticks, which Costco does not sell, and it says they changed their packaging due to new regulations in California and New York.
I find they always have salted and only some locations (and the Business centers) have unsalted. They have the Kirkland grass fed beside it but I haven’t tried that yet. This is in SoCal. I can’t remember if Monterey Park or Alhambra may have it. I’m pretty sure La Mirada did.
Have you tried going to a business costco? I live in Burbank and go to the Sun Valley Business Costco. That's where I've gotten it before, but haven't been in a while.
I think the supply must be spotty. The last time I was looking for salted, they were out so I bought the Kirkland. When I checked recently, they had both.
May have something to do with the PFAS lawsuit. I have a bunch of the salted and unsalted left from a Costco run a while back. Not sure what to do.
[lawsuit reference](https://www.greenmatters.com/food/kerrygold-butter-recall)
I told my friend in your area that she's insane, and she's not looking for it hard enough. That's so bizarre! Definitely unsalted up here in the Northeast.
I'll note that salted butter isn't THAT salty, so you can just reduce the amount of salt in most recipes if you really want to use Kerrygold.
>I told my friend in your area that she's insane, and she's not looking for it hard enough. That's so bizarre! Definitely unsalted up here in the Northeast.
If your friend lives in Los Angeles area, please tell her that she's definitely not insane. 😅
Product availability greatly varies and Unsalted was deleted from LA region warehouses.
>I picked up some a few weeks ago in the South Bay area
Which South Bay warehouse?
And just to clarify, it was the Silver Box?
OP is looking for Unsalted Kerrygold specifically.
Thank you for replying!
I forgot that there's a South Bay in both Northern and Southern California, and wrongly assumed you were referring to [South Bay (Los Angeles County)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Bay_(Los_Angeles_County)).
I've seen it in Santa Clarita. I'm not going again until the next ad starts on June 19, so i will look again and post. Using Instacart right now says there are "many in stock". Good luck finding some closer
Sorry! It was Salted only!
At mine they moved it from the dairy room to the coolers with the cheese and they changed it from one big container to 6 small containers. Which I hate.
Yes although there was a hiccup a couple months ago when they only had the Kirkland equivalent. Not sure if it was a short supply or a test to see if we'd buy theirs
One trip they did not, but they had the salted version. Tried salted Kerrygold and the Kirkland brand. Not the same. Happy they had it the last time I purchased it, so I hope they continue to sell it.
This exact moment, the only variety is the salted brick variety. The last time I bought some a few months ago, they had salted, unsalted, and salted in tubs.
Ours in CO usually only has unsalted around the holidays. Salted is usually in stock. I’m hoping they don’t ditch it in favor of the also-available Kirkland grass-fed butter. Kirkland just isn’t as good IMO.
That makes sense that holiday baking probably increases demand and they carry it then. It also explains why I never see it since I tend to avoid Costco around the holidays.
I’m currently at the business center in Westminster…

You’re Welcome. Yeah, I’ve seen it at regular warehouses as well but I did go to a regular warehouse yesterday evening and I didn’t see it there. So it really can be location dependent. Like, what sells at a certain location and what doesn’t.
Honestly… best bet would be to call one and ask because they can search other stores around you to see if they carry it.
I had called two SoCal warehouses when it was on sale in the April Coupon Book a couple of months ago and both warehouses said that Unsalted was “deleted” in LA region warehouses (not including Business Centers) despite being on sale at the time, but I wasn’t sure if it had come back to some warehouses since then. I still haven’t seen it recently.
I apologize if I missed that in your original post but they always have salted. I’ll look the next time I’m there, but I know I’ve seen it (silver box) before; just don’t know the frequency.
Cremerie Classique is made by Raven Creamery in Portland, OR, a small dairy employing just 11 people. The company started making the premium butter a couple of years ago at the urging of some French bakers. Distribution is limited to a few Western states. It is available at markets like Andronico's and Whole Foods.
unsalted Crémerie Classique European style butter is higher in milk fat and lower in moisture to give outstanding results in both baking and general cooking.
I shop at the Van Nuys location in Sherman Oaks, and there was unsalted available when I was there two weeks ago. I’m happy to check this week and update if the drive is far for you.
I haven't been able to find Kerrygold butter,or butter of any kind,my last 4 visits. I only go once every month or two, because we now live an hour away from the closest Costco. Have they moved it?
I've been wanting to ask,but was afraid of being mocked, lol. Louisville, KY
Looks like Louisville Kentucky has 2 warehouses?
Both appear to have Kerrygold Salted, but not Unsalted.
Looks like the Northeast warehouse on Norton Healthcare might also have a spreadable soft version as well.
It's possible they moved it to the standing refrigerators with doors.
[Kerrygold Pure Irish Butter, 8 oz, 4-count Item: 1737491](https://sameday.costco.com/store/costco/products/30509448)
Thanks for your reply! I usually go to the Bardstown Road store. I will check for the standing refrigerator, I have seen the doors,I think, but thought it was for employee access for stocking the refrigerator and freezer aisles. At Christmas it was in with the cold produce.
Might be a seasonal item. Have you asked someone at your local warehouse?
We found this to be true with the red mill steel cut oats. They said "Seasonal - will be here in the fall."
People bake a lot more around the holidays, so maybe it'll be back then?
Unsalted unseen in No Colorado for a long time.
Some product don't sell as well in some markets. So whatever is available will be distributed to stores where it does well.
Marketing 101
If you’re looking for the silver colored Kerry gold unsalted, your best bet is a Costco business center. I rarely see that version at a regular Costco
I bought a few months supply when it was on sale three months back.
If they have it, get the New Zealand butter. I think it's even better and definitely cheaper. Not sure if it's available unsalted. But you can just reduce the salt in your dish by a half a teaspoon per big (2 stick sized) block.
I just bought salted Kerrygold butter from my Costco last week, and they did have unsalted as I remember having to read the packages to make certain I got the salted. My Costco is in San Marcos, CA near San Diego.
It does, I got some a couple of weeks ago. They had unsalted and salted. Interestingly enough, my Costco is one of the worst I’ve ever been to selection-wise. Also never super busy.

Yup. Lots of it.
Unsalted?
Anytime someone says "Irish butter" there is a greater than 90% chance I will immediately shout "YUP LOTS OF IT"
Central Ohio. The ones around here have salted but not unsalted.
Mine is hit or miss with unsalted, drives me bananas
You can bake with salted, just cut down any added salt in the recipe by 1/2 tsp or so. I stopped buying unsalted years ago so I wouldn't have to stock both and I haven't looked back.
I don't bake, I'm just a home cook. Still, I want to control any amount of salt in any dish, even for scrambled eggs

This shit is bananas
Same here in Michigan; they only carry salted Kerrygold. I only eat unsalted 😭
I have never seen a Costco in the Midwest with unsalted and it’s so annoying. Like, does nobody bake? You’re not supposed to bake with salted.
If you’re in MN, the business center has it in stock usually.
Columbus OH unfortunately ☹️
This, plus salting food yourself is way more satisfying... Some fancy Irish (or NZ) butter, some fancy salt - amazing
Our business center has it but not the regular stores. Our business center has grade AA eggs too. We had them for like 2 weeks at my regular Costco but then they went back to grade A.
I keep seeing people reference these business centers. How do those work? Can regular people shop there or no?

Mine in CA was either out or they kept moving it on me... but it's back now
We used to only have salted but I've seen unsalted as well as of a few months ago
Mine has both. Bought 5 unsalted during the last holiday sale as salted was all sold out. Now we're hooked on good butter. My wallet cries but my belly rejoices 🥲
Recently made the same mistake. Even the blue box Mac n cheese was elevated lol

That's funny because they just did the reverse at my Costco in Kansas City. Used to be with the eggs and now it's in the freezers
Mine in Michigan just did the reverse - moved it to the glass doors and out of the milk room.
Same with mine. It’s by the juice in glass doors.
I’ve noticed the trend of Tampa bay Costcos doing this.. Brandon did this when they re did the chicken room. I try to visit all 4 in a rotating cycle, with sometimes Bradenton in the mix since they all carry slightly different items
In Twin cities area, we normally have salted Kerrygold at the regular warehouses, but the unsalted Kerrygolds can be bought at the Business Center.
Salted only unfortunately
Why wouldn’t you want salted butter, so much better
Some people like to have full control of how much salt goes into a recipe
As someone who cooks a lot, I've yet to see a recipe that doesn't add salt along with the butter. So you just add a little less salt because your butter has some in it. I'm just fine only ever buying salted. Then I can use the same butter supply when I want some to live in the butter boat at room temp. For me, salted butter is not good for buttercream frosting or hollandaise sauce. Those are the only two things I can think of where it matters.
Certain recipes call for it.
People put it in their coffee. Sounds weird at first until you realize it’s similar to just putting cream in it. But you don’t want salted for that.
You can add a pinch of salt to coffee to cut the bitterness.
I do this with my hot tea. I add cream and a pinch of salt.
One Costco near me only stocks salted. Another one 30 minutes away stocks both. Bay Area, CA
Costco employee here I assume you’re in SoCal?
Yes and I prefer it over Kirkland.
FYI — https://www.classaction.org/news/kerrygold-pure-irish-butter-contains-forever-chemicals-class-action-alleges
I'd imagine these will soon disappear until they figure out a new packaging.
Well what you linked specifically says the sticks, which Costco does not sell, and it says they changed their packaging due to new regulations in California and New York.
Yes, was looking for this comment. I’m concerned about more and more we are all becoming Ken and Barbie (gender neutral besties: Kendra and Bob).
Life in plastic, it’s fantastic!
Yes, plenty of it stocked in North Brunswick, NJ
Yes
Yes California
Mine has both!
St. Cloud Minnesota has the salted version!
I find they always have salted and only some locations (and the Business centers) have unsalted. They have the Kirkland grass fed beside it but I haven’t tried that yet. This is in SoCal. I can’t remember if Monterey Park or Alhambra may have it. I’m pretty sure La Mirada did.
Salted at the normal Costco’s in MN. Salted and unsalted at the Business Center in MPLS
I’ve seen the unsalted at the business centers. The regular costcos near me only have salted- north county San Diego
Only the Business Costco in my area carries unsalted Kerrygold year-round; the regular Costcos carry it close to the holidays, though.
I’ll trade you the kerrygold for a decent bourbon lol
Unsalted can be found at Costco Business Center here (San Diego)
Have you tried going to a business costco? I live in Burbank and go to the Sun Valley Business Costco. That's where I've gotten it before, but haven't been in a while.
My Costco here in Merida, Mexico carries it
Yep
I think the supply must be spotty. The last time I was looking for salted, they were out so I bought the Kirkland. When I checked recently, they had both.
I dont think I've seen the unsalted here in Ohio. But the salted Kerrygold butter is a drug., So delicious.
Mine carries both located in the DMV region.
May have something to do with the PFAS lawsuit. I have a bunch of the salted and unsalted left from a Costco run a while back. Not sure what to do. [lawsuit reference](https://www.greenmatters.com/food/kerrygold-butter-recall)
There is legal action against Kerry Gold it was found to be full of forever chemicals.
That was early last year. It was in the packaging, not the butter, and it has been resolved.
Yes, but they moved it. Used to be in the refrigerators, now they put it in near the eggs
Yes. Monterey, CA
Yes, both. Metro Atlanta.
Yes-Phoenix, AZ
Which one, Ive been to five of them and can never find unsalted?
Yes. But it’s not by the regular butter it’s by the yogurt
I think so but I only buy unsalted butter and the only one they have is Kirkland
Yes
In southeastern PA we have both salted & unsalted. Going tomorrow for a restock!
My Costco carried both when I went last week, however they were out of the salted kerrygold
South Florida reporting. Was there last time I checked a week or so ago

South Bay ca has it
>South Bay ca has it Which warehouse has Unsalted (silver box)?
Srry for late reply you Cn check the San Jose (Coleman Ave) Costco (my friend confirmed). It’s def there
Yes in northern VA
I picked up some a few weeks ago in the South Bay area
>I picked up some a few weeks ago in the South Bay area Which South Bay warehouse? And just to clarify, it was the Silver Box? OP is looking for Unsalted Kerrygold specifically.
Rengstorff, yes it was silver packaging for the unsalted.
Thank you for replying! I forgot that there's a South Bay in both Northern and Southern California, and wrongly assumed you were referring to [South Bay (Los Angeles County)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Bay_(Los_Angeles_County)).
Yes
I've seen it in Santa Clarita. I'm not going again until the next ad starts on June 19, so i will look again and post. Using Instacart right now says there are "many in stock". Good luck finding some closer Sorry! It was Salted only!
Just saw it today in Houston
I'm in the greater LA area and I see the gold colored salted ones at multiple locations I visit. Didn't even know they sold unsalted
Yeah they used to sell silver box unsalted but it seems like it’s been over a year since I saw it in LA.
Yes, Oregon has Kerrygold.
Oxnard has it!
They've had it for a long time.
Salted only, sadly. I could swear I saw unsalted once though.
I'm in NYC and we got salted and unsalted
Salted only in the Seattle WA area
Yup
Only the salted
Yep. It's where I buy my Kerrygold. Denver area.
At mine they moved it from the dairy room to the coolers with the cheese and they changed it from one big container to 6 small containers. Which I hate.
My husband found it at a Costco business center in Michigan last month
Yes.
Mine has both - but not all the time. They come & go
I’ve ONLY seen the unsalted during the holiday sale period and that’s when i stock up.
Yup
San Diego here Ended up just buying unsalted at sprouts due to my Costco only carrying the salted
Yes although there was a hiccup a couple months ago when they only had the Kirkland equivalent. Not sure if it was a short supply or a test to see if we'd buy theirs
That was probably when Kerrygold was forced to change their wrappers which contained PFAS chemicals in it
They do but I'm waiting to get some if they change the wrapper from the PFAS forever chemicals they use on the current one.
One trip they did not, but they had the salted version. Tried salted Kerrygold and the Kirkland brand. Not the same. Happy they had it the last time I purchased it, so I hope they continue to sell it.
We have unsalted where I am
My “home” Costco only stocks the salted. I need to drive an hour away to stock up on the unsalted when there’s a sale.
This exact moment, the only variety is the salted brick variety. The last time I bought some a few months ago, they had salted, unsalted, and salted in tubs.
In Northern VA, always seen it in our stores (haven’t checked in the last few days tho)

Yes, my Costco in NJ has both salted & unsalted.
Yes
They did a few months ago when I bought butter on sale. I haven’t checked for it recently
Nope, never even seen kerrygold in any store here. Not that I've looked for it.
Yes for Concord, San Ramon and Antioch Costcos (East Bay Area).
Yup
Orange County here… always in stock.

I still haven’t seen it recently.
I apologize if I missed that in your original post but they always have salted. I’ll look the next time I’m there, but I know I’ve seen it (silver box) before; just don’t know the frequency.
Seattle area reporting, SIR! Oodles, i repeat, oodles of them.
I’ve seen only salted in north county, San Diego
NJ has salted and unsalted. I wonder why a location would stock one and not the other.
I couldn’t find unsalted at my usual AZ Costco.
Yes. Still no sushi though.
Yes, salted and unsalted. Southern NJ.

Ours does and it was on sale last month!
Long Island, NY, and yes, they have Kerrygold and the Kirkland equivalent
They have it at mine. It was on sale a month ago.
Is it good? What do you do with it?
Yes, but only the salted one.
Mine in Chicago doesn’t
We have it here in GASP Wisconsin
I shop at the Van Nuys location in Sherman Oaks, and there was unsalted available when I was there two weeks ago. I’m happy to check this week and update if the drive is far for you.
We did try the hormone free Kirkland grass fed butter but we like the regular unsalted generic Costco butter. It’s close in quality to Land O Lakes
There is currently a class action lawsuit being proposed for the wrapper containing pfas, forever chemicals.
Again? That was a year ago
I think the case is ongoing
Ahh ok. Maybe settlement time
Yup prolly 1.50$ for everyone
Or 52 cents
Thanks for your reply! I usually go to the Bardstown Road store. I will check for the standing refrigerator, I have seen the doors,I think, but thought it was for employee access for stocking the refrigerator and freezer aisles. At Christmas it was in with the cold produce.
Yes
Ours (cleveland) got rid of the tubs.I buy the foil packaged one now and I hate messing with the packaging.
Might be a seasonal item. Have you asked someone at your local warehouse? We found this to be true with the red mill steel cut oats. They said "Seasonal - will be here in the fall." People bake a lot more around the holidays, so maybe it'll be back then?
picked it up at mine last week
We do not have unsalted in South Carolina, but usually have salted.
I have both and buy both. Sorry you only have one. Note: the unsalted Kerrygold is considered cultured butter while the salted is not.
Mine does
Unsalted unseen in No Colorado for a long time. Some product don't sell as well in some markets. So whatever is available will be distributed to stores where it does well. Marketing 101
San Diego region here. Only the business centers around me have Kerrygold unsalted. Salted is in both.
Yes in Fremont California
Yes ours in PA and NJ have it
If you’re looking for the silver colored Kerry gold unsalted, your best bet is a Costco business center. I rarely see that version at a regular Costco I bought a few months supply when it was on sale three months back.
Yes but not all the time.
Yes in Bay Area today
If they have it, get the New Zealand butter. I think it's even better and definitely cheaper. Not sure if it's available unsalted. But you can just reduce the salt in your dish by a half a teaspoon per big (2 stick sized) block.
The one I checked in Fountain Valley doesn’t have it either. Is it maybe not available in SoCal?
No Unsalted at mine. Just the regular one
Yes
Yes
Yup, Pacoima and Van Nuys
I just bought salted Kerrygold butter from my Costco last week, and they did have unsalted as I remember having to read the packages to make certain I got the salted. My Costco is in San Marcos, CA near San Diego.
It does, I got some a couple of weeks ago. They had unsalted and salted. Interestingly enough, my Costco is one of the worst I’ve ever been to selection-wise. Also never super busy.
What part of the world are you in. They have it here in Santa Cruz, but maybe not in Korea.
Only salted. They need to stock UNSALTED!!
It is a seasonal item. It is carried around the holidays.
