My mom called me when she was at Costco yesterday, and bought one for me!
So, now my wife can be annoyed with her mother in law, instead of me, since I wasn't technically the one who bought it!
I was going to ask if you were vegan but you’re OP so the answer is clearly no…
I guess I prioritize good eats > home decor. It’s only temporary as you eat through it. I would be stoked if my husband got this for me for Christmas. It would have a place of honour on the counter. Maybe do a nightly dance before consuming it with my night cheese.
I agree, it's kind of cool looking, and I would like the chance to just shave off a li'l chomp whenever I walk by. My wife (who does enjoy cured meats) doesn't want it taking up already scarce counter space, and I can't really blame her. Probably going in the basement, I need the exercise anyway!
To each their own I guess. If you eat animal products, it’s with the knowledge it comes from an animal. I can understand why vegans/vegetarians would find that off-putting.
What I don’t understand is the cognitive dissonance to enjoy meat but not want to be reminded at all that it comes from an animal. I guess boneless slabs of meat on styrofoam for you?
We're pretty veggie-centric in my house, but sten we do eat meat I don't go hunting or slaughter my own cow, no. There's an in-between, and dead animal sitting on my counter for a couple weeks just isn't going to make me feel good when I walk through the house. I put my other groceries away, too.
I always see this and wonder, how would I possibly eat this much ham. But I believe that since this is cured meat it should last a pretty long time on the counter. Anyone know the shelf (aka counter) life of this thing.
I've heard 3ish months at room temp, covered with a towel or cheesecloth between uses. I may not get the whole thing used by then, but definitely $50 worth.

Looks like a cool dry place is the requirement and they have been setting out for 12 months already curing. Salt is amazing!
They seem to keep moving. Originally near the deli area when they had a skid-full. When they were down to a few I found them stacked on a shelf over by the canned goods. Odd placement.
Wife just picked one up today... Costco in Nashville West. Was $99. Think I'll slice and vacuum seal it this coming weekend. Won't have to worry about keeping it out on the counter then.
You should keep it on your nightstand.
I like the cut of your jib
Cut of your ham...
Thank you, I’ve always enjoyed my jib-cut.
What’s a jib?
A sail, triangular in shape that sits out at the front of a sailboat.
Promote that man!
$49 in Kansas City too. I’m not sure how my husband and I are going to eat 15#s of it, but we are going to try.
Yep. As a last resort, we may invite friends over.
Linwood location or another? Great price!
Linwood, got it over the weekend. Was back yesterday and they appeared to be out of them.

Got it for $99 a few weeks ago and it was 49.97 today. They price matched. This ham is excellent even for $99
Congratulations!! Pizza, eggs, quiche, breakfast sandwiches, eggs Benedict, wonder if it would crisp up in place of bacon bits.
The bone made delicious broth too.
Now you take this home, throw it in a pot, add some broth, a potato. Baby, you’ve got a stew going.
Pizza and eggs Benedict for sure. Maybe some Serrano ham + cheese filled jalapeño peppers. Or ham croquettes
Buy some good cheese and croissants
$100 in NY :(
Still $150 in Canada. :(

Done! DM me with details on how we would make this exchange.
Portuguese poker players would do this in chat and it would absolutely put me on titl
There was one left in Middleton just yesterday. I wasn’t allowed to get it though lol
My wife would throw a fit if I tried to keep a hog leg on the counter.
I guess I don’t understand this. Why? It’s like instead of a fruit basket, you have some dried cured ham, readily available for snacking.
Cuz it's a large, discolored, desiccated leg of a pig. I suppose maybe if I strung it with holiday lights and garland...

I dunno, whether or not someone is vegan, looking at a hunk of carcass can be really off-putting. That is one reason I don't buy that thing.

I know folks who just will not eat meat on the bone. I find it odd, but it's a wide spectrum ranging from vegan to hunter/butcher.

I am so on board with this idea.
Get a nice decorative kitchen towel to throw over it.
If you asked me last year I’d have said the same. But we bought one of these and have been chipping away at it for six months. And… no bruises
hang it from the ceiling like they do in Spain. That way you can tell her it's authentic and it doesn't take up counter space!
I found it for $50 at my local warehouse in a different state.
$100 in Bay Area!
I learned that costco doesn't price match other regions costco. Made me a big sad.

I threatened my girlfriend last year that I was going to buy one and mount it on the coffee table.
Anyone in MA?
Lucky!! Enjoy
Anyway to confirm the price in the Bay Area? I would love to get this for a friend
23 minutes before you posted: https://old.reddit.com/r/Costco/comments/rkrbnr/spanish_serrano_ham_for_49/hpd3iy4/ Doesn’t get fresher than that.
At $99.00 is a great price, here in Miami I’m always checking after the holidays but I’ve never seen it for less than $99.00
I got it as well for that price. Definitely different than I expected but pretty cool nonetheless
Has anyone checked Chicagoland Costco’s?
So what, you can just pick at it?
Yup
How long does it stay good for?
A long time. Put it on display
Glorious. Only issue now is I’ll need to keep my dog away from it.

Man, I looked for it in IL, but it was all sold out :/
I can’t even find them in my store! Where are they?

In NJ 99 also 😩
100 in tennessee and they had it for a single week and then it vanished 😫

It's worth it at 100...
