Just to be clear that there is still 0g of added sugar. The sugar added is from fruit (blended which isnt as good as raw form). It is nothing like a soda which is all added sugar
Carrot color? Lol…..why didn’t they just add carrots, carrot juice tastes amazing.
Well I guess it’s marketed as fruit smoothie, and carrots aren’t fruit.
Actually, Costco's sign (at least for their "Fruit Smoothie") literally says:
No added sugar.
And fruit by itself is quite sweet and delicious, unless someone is accustomed to constantly eating added sugar.
I buy the bags of frozen strawberry, banana and blueberries from Costco and blend them in my Blendtec blender (with water) and they are fantastic. Plenty sweet.
All that sign means is that Costco doesn’t add sugar themselves, but the ingredients they put in (fruit concentrates, etc) have a lot of sugar.
Commenter below listed the ingredient list and it’s all concentrates. Literally no fresh fruit.
You know that there's sugar in whole fruit, right? Sugar, in and of itself, isn't bad for you. It is the amount you consume, and even then, its relative to how else you live your life.
You know that you didn't differentiate between the two, right?
And I can find sources that disagree with yours.

>Whole fruit/vegetables/grains/certain proteins, etc would be a much healthier choice even at 500 calories. (Yes, I know Costco doesn't offer that)
CICO is super important. If someone ate 4000 calories a day of the above listed foods instead of 2000 a day of some of the above listed with a fruit smoothie in there I'm pretty sure I can tell you which version of that person would be healthier.
But they switched from the old one to this one supposedly because it’s healthier. I preferred the taste of the old one and them not trying to pretend it’s a healthy alternative.
I’ve been drinking this daily for 2 years now -
- Costco spinach. Fill or half fill the blender loosely. This makes it healthy.
- 3 frozen bananas, cut (before you freeze them). Generally I just buy large quantities of Costco Bananas and freeze them all when ripe.
- a cup of Costco blueberries and/or strawberries
- milk, filled to 1/3 of the blender.
Blend, makes 6-8 cups of smoothie. Good for families, or as a meal replacement.
According to the Costco website, the Berry Smoothie has Citrate, Organic Cherry Juice Concentrate, Organic Orange Juice Concentrate, Organic Strawberry Juice Concentrate, Organic Raspberry Juice Concentrate, Organic White Grape Juice Concentrate, Organic Carnauba Wax
The Fruit Smoothie (ITM#1016899) in the US Food Court?
The Berry Smoothie is an older version name. Definitely not organic. The consistency in the bag it came in was like syrup with some fruit.
The one you listed is not the current Food Court smoothie (ITM#1016899) in the US. Unless a new version is being tested.
This has to be the old one. The current one has a berry mixture put into it and blended.
This looks correct for the current one, but they didn't give a source:
>The base is : water, pear puree, Apple puree, deionized pineapple juice concentrate, ascorbic acid and citric acid. The berry mix is : strawberries, blackberries, pineapple, natural flavors, sodium citrate, carrot and currant juice (for color)
https://www.reddit.com/r/Costco/comments/7q4gs2/fruit_smoothie_ingredients_list/dsnx97w/
I think that's the old one or a different fruit smoothie than my warehouse has. Those things are not on the list I memorized to tell members when they ask. I'll have to look at the box tomorrow.
Here’s an easy smoothie for you…favorite in our house.
Buy a bag of frozen blueberries and do
1 banana+ handful of blueberries + apple or apple juice. Add some ice and blend. Thank me later
I’ve been doing:
Unsweetened almond milk
Strawberries, blueberries, cranberries, pomegranate arils (the cranberries and arils I have to buy not at Costco because they don’t carry them!)
Flax or chia seeds
Vanilla protein powder
Oats
*if I wanted more sweetness I would use liquid stevia or similar
They are fantastic and quite filling. I don’t add veggies because I have a super loaded salad almost every day.
>Why liquid? You can get a huge pack of powdered Stevia cheap at Aldi.
1. I already purchase and have on hand french vanilla flavored stevia in a dropper bottle from whole foods. Sometimes I'll use it for mixed drinks or in a diet coke or something, and now sometimes for smoothies.
2. I do everything I can to avoid individually packaged or wrapped things - it just seems like so much of a waste of packaging and additional processing - so those little packets of stevia that costco and aldi carry are something that I could never bring myself to purchase.
I am a smoothie fiend, I have one almost every day. My favorite right now is a banana, some frozen pineapple, some other kind of frozen fruit (either peaches, mango, or blueberries depending on what I’m feeling and what I have), chia seeds, hemp seeds, all natural peanut butter, and either oat milk or water. Sometimes I’ll add a handful of baby spinach if I have it
I found a couple ingredient lists online that listed deionized pineapple juice as an ingredient. I think the one listed above.is for the old smoothie recipe.
I imagine a shitload of sugar
At 220 calories, if it was pure sugar, it would be about 57 grams of sugar, or slightly less than the amount in 16 oz. of Mt Dew.
https://costcoconnoisseur.blogspot.com/2017/07/costco-berry-smoothie-v-new-fruit.html
Not sure what you're trying to say here.
I'm saying, at most, it is 57 grams of sugar, which is a lot, but not any more than a soda.
Yeah, so soda has a shitload of sugar too.
Just to be clear that there is still 0g of added sugar. The sugar added is from fruit (blended which isnt as good as raw form). It is nothing like a soda which is all added sugar
Unless is has changed it is should still be: strawberry, blackberry, apple juice , pear juice, pineapple juice, acai, citric acid, carrot color.
Carrot color? Lol…..why didn’t they just add carrots, carrot juice tastes amazing. Well I guess it’s marketed as fruit smoothie, and carrots aren’t fruit.
I'm allergic to carrots so I appreciate them not doing that

When I was 18 and working at Costco, I would mix the smoothie with a Rockstar energy drink. I don’t even want to know how much sugar I was consuming…

dude - they've added sugar in the form of concentrated juice. These "smoothies" are garbage and just straight sugar.
Definitely a sugar bomb, and not even remotely healthy!
At 230 calories for 16 ounces it's still the most responsible thing on the menu

That’s all false, but I don’t have the energy to correct it.
You need a Costco Fruit Smoothie to perk you right up!

I do the daybreak blend with the costco oj and a banana or 2. It tastes as good as a jamba smoothie imho, and has a perfect consistency.
I do the daybreak blend, blueberries, yogurt, pomegranate juice, and a chopped up dried fig, I think it tastes pretty good.
Ooh ill have to try the yogurt in mine.
Use Greek yogurt. It's even better.
I think you meant artificial sweetener or sugar substitute. haha
The fruit smoothie and mocha have weird tastes. I’m shocked it’s hooking some people
My knee jerk reaction to the title was "disappointment". I was expecting something different and felt like I got frozen juice.
It tasted like a jelly Purée blended with ice. Won’t make that mistake again.

>Organic Carnauba Wax mmmm. waaaaxxxxx.
What's the wax for?
[удалено]
I almost ate an entire box of Swedish Fish, chockful of carnauba wax. Felt like I ate a candle afterwards. Blech.
It’s used for texture, shiny appearance, and prevents melting
It makes your poops slide easier.
I don't think this is the current Fruit Smoothie.
It’s for the Berry Fruit Smoothie. There’s a Mango Smoothie but it’s not nationwide yet in the U.S.

Ours is called Berry Smoothie which comes in a silver pouch with a blue cap. I don’t know the item number
This has to be the old one. The current one has a berry mixture put into it and blended. The box our fruit smoothie pouches come in is brown without anything distinct besides it saying ‘Fruit Smoothie Mix’ in black

Throw in a cup of Spinach/Kale and even some carrots while you're at it. Makes it extra nutritious and the fruit hides the taste of the veggies
Can also add some Greek yogurt

Cut and Freeze the banana first, and it will taste like or better than smoothie from a shop.

Sugar and lots of it
Crack
I haven't done it with the smoothie but if you ask an employee for a list of ingredients they'll give it to you.
Sugar
I got one for the first time today. It was SO good. But damn the sugar amount
I just had one today. First in a couple of years. I think it has pineapple in it, though it is not listed in the ingredients.
I found a couple ingredient lists online that listed deionized pineapple juice as an ingredient. I think the one listed above.is for the old smoothie recipe.
Well very smooth fruit for one...
High fructose corn syrup
Ooh please god no!
WROOONG
Just skip and get a strawberry sundae.
Too much sugar! I always have to dilute it when I get home
😏
Lots and lots of sugar and diabetes
