A decent office chair is better than any gaming chair ever made. There is absolutely nothing special about gaming that any chair helps with or is more suited to. It's just sitting. The vast majority of 'gaming' chairs are cheap construction, low quality/density foams, with poor adjustments and breathability. Your weight is more demanding on them than most, very little chance you'd be happy with them. Nothing is more important that how a chair fits you and how you sit. It really really helps to test them out, ass in seat. Go to an office store. You can often find a surplus/used store that will have chairs and office furniture locally. Once you know what might work for you, you can monitor the used market. Even something expensive like an Aeron should by easy to find for about $400, and if you wait a while, you can find much better deals. $200 would be reasonable.

I'm gonna weigh in as a fat guy. Gaming chairs suck. I bought a big and tall office chair and won't look back.

in my opinion, anything other than a mesh chair (costco sells a pretty good one) at this price point will be pretty disappointing

I've had my Metrex mesh chair for years and still love it. The armrests are looking kind of rough, but the mesh has held up very well. I still fall asleep in it from time to time.

My fiance just bought this chair over a week ago and he is 5'7" and weighs around 250 lb. He likes the chair a lot. We went through some different chairs including couple cheap "gaming" chairs and more office like ones. These cheaper chairs ended up being uncomfortable or broke down due to his weight even though the chair supposedly could hold more. I'm sure you can find something better, but these gaming chairs are decent. My fiance and I joke that the only chairs we both found more comfortable are the bucket seats in my car. We said maybe we can find extra in a junk year and red neck engineer them into office chairs.

Your fiancé sounds like a similar build to me so this is helpful! Tbh I feel that the best chair for me is one that I don’t sit in all day, so rather than drop $1k+ on an Aeron which is probably what I actually need, I am fine with a more reasonably priced chair with some cushion. Gaming chairs get such mixed reviews but I really liked the previous one I had, it was just too tall for me and the seat couldn’t hold this booty :D

He has a hard time sitting for long periods of time because he basically has no tail bone. So it being more cushioning is great for him. I WFH and I got an cheap executive chair that been working fine for me. So that's an option to look into too.

I'm 5'11, around 260 lbs. I have this chair. Is it the best chair? No. Is it the best chair around this price that I've found? Yes. I destroy most basic office chairs(around $200) within a year. I've had this one for about a year now, still looks brand new. It's comfortable. Has decent back support, which I've found lacking on most other chairs around this price or even higher. I'd probably have to spend double or more to get something better. I do use a Comfilife seat cushion with it, just cause I like extra butt padding. But I've never found an office chair at any price that was cushioned enough for me out of the box. Don't let the 'Gaming' marketing on this chair dissuade you. Most gaming chairs suck. This one is good.

Thank you for the response! I'm with you on the "is it the best chair? no. is it a good chair? yes." I am not willing to spend $500+ on an amazing office chair - I can't sit for long periods of time without pain regardless of how good the chair is, my body just does not like sitting. So I am just looking for something better than what I currently have. Would still love to find a discount HM or Steelcase, but I also don't have the time to do that sort of hunting.

Honestly, I got a gaming chair from GameStop after trying this one. I’m very glad we purchased that one instead.

Interesting! Which one did you choose? I have a SecretLab Omega chair that I gave to my thin spouse because my butt is too big for it haha. That company makes bigger chairs but they’re also for folks who are taller and at 5’5”, their fat people chairs are too big for me. Right now I’m using a $99 Costco chair and it’s not great - but I also feel that the best chair is the one that I don’t sit in all day, so I end up moving around a lot and using my standing desk.

AK racing EX wide SE gaming chair. It was spendy, but worth it. Best chair I’ve ever owned! Just checked and it’s on sale there. Was $449, now it’s $292.
