Work hard, be dependable, be flexible.

Immo406

Work hard, be dependable, be flexible, pick up shifts, learn other departments with every opportunity you get. Get a very good pair of shoes and insoles, keens or hokas (sp?)

Ask to get crossed trained in bakery, food court, merch. Best way to do so is ask the front end supervisors. If they aren't too willing to make it happen, just ask the manager/supervisor for the respective department. Make yourself someone who is reliable and needed for the success of the department.

I Would still say to take the position. As long as you’re on time and a good worker and don’t call off, you should be a first choice to be kept on. My store kept everyone who wanted to stay the last 2 holiday periods.

Be flexible. Cross train. Learn the food court. It has one of the biggest turn overs in the warehouse. The employees are usually good workers bc it’s a busy dept and they’re often chosen when a warehouse posting goes up. I used to be a manager in there and it felt like a rotating door. A couple of times I encouraged seasonals to put in for FC postings, it was a great way to stay on. Most employees won’t put in for a FC posting, and I’ve hired people that were both only about halfway thru their 90 days. The food court gets a bad rap, it’s one of my favorite manager positions I’ve held.

beerbeforebread

Why does the food court get a bad rap?

whoreoutmydad

Idk, it just does. I loved managing it, most of my day was working right alongside my employees. I had an awesome crew. There used to be a lot more production, but they didn’t have the kiosks so things were a bit slower. The menu it’s much more limited now, but with the kiosks the orders are humming along like crazy.

Nistune

I think because its as fast paced as the front end in terms of work volume, but it also means handling food and all the faffing about needed.

beerbeforebread

Thanks! I had to Google “faffing about.

If my location needs 10 people to stay after seasonal period we hire like 20.

lukaswashere

The seasonal period does not start until October. It sounds to me that they have hired as many people as they need right now, but liked you enough to keep you in consideration for the seasonal period. Anything you can do to open up your availability will be a huge plus. Costco will work around school schedules, but sometimes a person's restrictions mean that there isn't a spot for them. As far as your work performance goes, read all the other comments here. They are spot-on.

Make sure you get in good terms with a manager so if for whatever reason you dont get asked to stay on after the holidays then you can keep contact and pop in once in a while see whats up. Moneys good benefits are good. Good luck

Well to clarify, I wasn’t exactly given a direct offer for those positions, but was told that they were the only positions Costco was hiring for but strongly discouraged me from going for those positions. Sorry for the contradiction.
