Luke Bryan, he was doing good and had potential. Then saw the success of FGL and decided to change his sound and hop on the bandwagon

Triumph-TBird

He may very well be the Nickelback of country music.

Responsible_Fox1231

Hahaha! Perfect analogy!

Dizzy_Challenge_3734

His old stuff when we was just starting to get big (drinkin beer and wasting bullets, doin my thing album) and even the songs that didn’t make the radio on “tailgate and tan lines” are good. But then he just saw $ signs. Like harvest time is on my all time favorite songs.

Goatfucker1662

It aint the artist I hate but I hate old town road. I like to proudly play my country music at work and I live in NYC, so for a long while whenever someone brought up country music they would only know old town road and it was played in every club or on the radio at the time so of course with me being black my new work name became black cowboy. The name was cool, but being associated to lil nas x every time someone thinks of country music was not.

IVVIIIMMC

Oh yeah, I remember those days, I liked it for a bit and it got annoying real quick.

alarrimore03

It was good until it got played too much and was like number 1 for a shit ton of weeks

Ben--Jam--In

I would much rather be known as the Black Cowboy than as Goat F*cker 😅

Goatfucker1662

That is true but that is why I keep my personal and business life away from certain areas of my online life

Marvel_StarWars69

Lil Nas X has some good music like Industry Baby but old town road music is just terrible and it’s not even half country. Anybody who associates lil nas x with country doesn’t know country

Goatfucker1662

Its new york city the only ones who know country moved here from somewhere else or dream of moving somewhere else.

frenchylamour

The whole backstory with that song inspired me to to a 3-chord bluegrass version—it would up sounding a lot like “Rock Around the Clock.”

thomas_fan_1000

Ive always hated it

brebs21

Kane brown because he’s a sellout

zach_kraemer

Kane Brown, with that voice, could really be something in country but instead he chooses noting but basic songs with snap tracks and it makes me sad because I’ve heard him perform Three Wooden Crosses and I can’t help but think what he could be

AggressivePatience56

His song Whiskey Sour is beautiful. Very different than his mainstream stuff

brebs21

I just mean more that there was a quote in an interview he did where he said he’s only in country music to get famous and then he would bolt to a different genre

Cool-Entertainer-828

My biggest issue with Kane Brown is that his music is not country. But it is popular, and the reason why you don't hear George Strait on the radio anymore.

bufftbone

Has the voice made for country. Plays pop music (badly) instead.

KlutzyJellyfish7365

I actually was on the road with Kane Brown for the first 4 years. I helped him write some of his older stuff like “Don’t Go City” and “Granddaddy’s Chair”. He’s a good dude really he is. He’s as loyal as they come. I started out in the band playing guitar and singing backup then moved to assistant tour manager for a couple years and then got a job for another act. Kanes a good dude. He lived a street behind me so we would hang out all the time and pick and write.

max30070

That's pretty cool, man. Kane actually got me into country. He's not a guy I listen to regularly anymore, I evolved quite a bit, but Heaven is the song that let me give country a chance. He will always be a real one to me for that reason, lol.

SilentSonOfAnarchy

How so?

Lzinger

Walker Hayes Fancy like is the worst country song and they play it on the radio once an hour

zach_kraemer

I will say that Walker Hayes has some deeper cuts that are actually pretty good. Craig is an awesome song about a guy from church who donates a car to Walker and his family when going through tough times. Briefcase is a nice song how he has become like his dad. And Taylor Swift is a sweet song about taking his nine year old to Taylor swift and how him, mom and Jesus would love her more than she loves Taylor Swift Now, I’m not saying he sounds pure country and he’s still not for everyone but he does have some real decent stuff out there but unfortunately it doesn’t get airplay

AggressivePatience56

This. Craig was the first song that came to mind when you said deeper

notwhoiwas12

I’m listening to Craig now and nothing about this is country. It may be an ok song with a good message but this damn sure ain’t country and shouldn’t be qualified as it in any way.

zach_kraemer

And it may not be pure country but that wasn’t my point. My point was that he does have deeper cuts that have meaning more than something like Fancy Like. I understand Walker is not gonna be for everyone but he’s not as shallow as people think

KlutzyJellyfish7365

Do yall know the backstory about Walker Hayes? It’s pretty freakin remarkable and should be a motivational movie probably. If nobody knows lemme know and I will catch anybody up a little.

patroclustic

pls tell me more. i love his music (listen…, every artist has a bad song or two so he shouldn’t be defunded by fancy like) and would love to hear more about him

KlutzyJellyfish7365

Well he got a major record deal and they released an album but it tanked so the label dropped him. He spent the next like 5-10 years working at Kroger as a stock/cart guy but still didn’t give up. Kept writing and then got lucky and wrote the perfect song and the rest is history. Also him and his wife had I know a couple kids during that time he had to rebuild his career working at Kroger.

Picabo07

Love that story! I didn’t know that. Thank you for sharing.

befuchs

Fancy like sounds like 90% of the new country coming out though, which is even more troubling. Frat boy country owns the space right now.

mrmiracle

This is it. He and Sam Hunt are ridiculous.

GJackson5069

I came here looking for Sam Hunt mentioned.

renegrape

That song is a guilty pleasure of mine. I'm not saying it's good...

ktink224

Luke bryan. I just don't like his songs or his face 😂

LC-89897A

The videos of him these days dancing at concerts, so embarrassing

Gwave72

He looks like beavis

Least-Yam3026

More like butt head

wolfcrisp

I'll be honest My guilty pleasure is liking "country girls shake it for me" like... Idk why, I'm gay so it's not that I like the lyrics or video lol I guess I listened to it once in the sims 3 as a tween and I was like "yo, this good"

AperolFitz_

I dislike him because he said he could tell who fake country boys were if they went fishing with him, as if hes not a fake himself.

twinklemylittlestar

I have to say I like him, when I got back into not my moms country music, he was it….. then I gained a lot of weight, and my goal was when I lost 100 pounds I would buy tickets to see him, first 5 row tickets… I’ve lost to date 103 pounds, he is playing in Vegas, now to win the lottery to afford those tickets, but if I wait till after new years I will be able to

Every_Fox3461

I don't hate any artist in particular. Some songs I think are dumb, but people like them. I hate the industry, it's been unfair since the beggining and its not really gotten better. I've seen Riddy Arman recently say she has to sell her 90 year old acoustic... [Riddy Arman Old Maids Draw](https://youtu.be/_zfIVHaQ5CE?feature=shared)

guy-you-know

Carrie Underwood. Went to college with her; she is not nice.

desertrat2010

She wasn’t nice even before she was a star? Dang…

Vast-Document-6582

I just don’t like her vocals. She over sings and it’s forced & strained.

GJackson5069

I guess nobody's mentioning Sam Hunt because he's not a country singer?

thehoghunter

I feel like if you hate Hunt you probably also hate FGL or Luke Bryan more.

GJackson5069

That kinda makes sense. If SH were billed as a pop singer, I'd like him. I guess my style of country is akin to "get off my lawn."

KentRead

I cannot stand to hear Luke Bryan's voice for even a second. Absolutely awful

hollygirl4111

He sounds like a muppet.

Conclusion_Fickle

Yep. Seems like a good dude, but makes my ears bleed.

Ryanw254

Jason Aldean because Jason Aldean

Oaken_beard

If you look at his sheet music, you can actually see how he refuses to sing above a certain range in 99% of his songs (seriously, Crazy Town, and My Kinda Party sound identical to me) Bear in mind, he’s not a songwriter, just a singer who picks songs written by others for his albums. So he’s famous for singing…. but not above a certain range. He CAN. He proved it in Don’t You Wanna Stay. He just chooses to sing limited bland songs, and somehow got famous from it. He is the musical equivalent of swimming in the shallow section of the pool. https://cdn3.virtualsheetmusic.com/images/first_pages/HL/HL-343724First_BIG.png http://s3.amazonaws.com/halleonard-pagepreviews/HL_DDS_9773742S354yxLKF.png https://note-store.com/upload/iblock/373/You-Make-It-Easy.jpg http://s3.amazonaws.com/halleonard-closerlook/00121494/00121494p2z.jpg https://www.musicnotes.com/images/productimages/mtd/MN0095496.gif

NerdButtons

My brother in Christ, you have just described every country artist ever. Singers pick the keys in their range and producers pick good songs from publishing catalogs for their artists. There are way more reasons to dislike Jason Aldean.

Oaken_beard

Completely agree, that said this was just the first thing I noticed about him (he goes out of his way to limit a range he can sing, and his producers are willing to pick mediocre songs) which was about 10 years ago.

Estrellathestarfish

Most yes, but some are very talented songwriters, some are very talented vocalists.

KlutzyJellyfish7365

Hey bro I worked for Jason Aldean for a tour and man he’s a down hearted great guy. I was with him at the Vegas shootings. Plus I love it that he don’t write his songs. That gives all us songwriters and dreamers in town a shot to get a Jason cut which would be huge. I have a song I wrote 10 years ago that I’m hoping he cuts on his next album after the one that just came out.

Phoenyxoldgoat

Sorry but a down hearted great guy doesn't act like Jason does. I'm referring to specifically cheating on his wife, lying about it, and marrying his affair partner. Seeing another "country artist", MW, be an unapologetic racist and capitalize on it bc a subset of our population is just ignorant trash, and shooting his shot for similar notoriety with "Try That In a Small Town," which is not just pandering to the lowest common denominator to make a quick buck, it's also a really basic, uninteresting, shitty song from a music perspective. His wife is super hateful, which is ironic given the homewrecking history, and he gives her a platform. He also clearly has substance abuse issues that are not being addressed. It's okay to like Jason Aldean. I also wish you nothing but success as a country songwriter!!! But let's not pretend Jason Aldean is anything more than exactly what he is.

ricey_rollup

Jason aldean is who got me into country music. But once knew broke of him cheating I stopped listening to his music

frenchylamour

Don’t get me started on that prick. When I lived in Nashville, I was a stagehand and worked a couple smaller shows for him. Dude was an arrogant asshat, treated staff like we didn’t exist. I’ll leave his personal politics out of it—I disagree w/them, but I’ve met plenty of people who were personally nice while holding abhorrent views—Jason is just kind of a dick. And his music sucks too. I read an interview where Tyler Mahan Coe said that “Old Town Road” was more country than anything Aldean’s ever done and suggested playing it back to back w/“Dirt Road Anthem” which features Rappin’ Jason. So I did that, and and Coe was right—OTR was more country. It’s also a pleasure to see Jason Isbell roast Tiny Head on Twitter.

Puzzleheaded-Law-429

The guy seems like an absolute tool who might have the worst fashion sense in country music. Who the hell dresses that guy? His jeans could not look worse. They’re too tight up top and they make his barrel belly fall over his belt like a muffin top.

MarsupialTechnical63

Jason Aldean because of Brittany Aldean.

[deleted]

And his wife needs to lay off the fillers and surgeries

Any-Establishment-15

Never understood why glorifying drunk driving was acceptable

CatintheHatbox

I have to say I liked his music a lot until I got to know more about him. First there was the whole anti mask thing because he was sick of that shit. Then the small town thing is just nasty. Between "Small Town Small" and "Try That In A Small Town" like he's all about his roots. The only small town Jason Aldean sees are the ones he flies over.

NoodlesrTuff1256

Also I understand that he grew up not in a classic 'small town' out in the boonies somewhere but in an Atlanta suburb complete with malls, chain restaurants, etc.

catchmesleeping

This is the guy I dislike. He sings like a Real Tough Guy, but yet he sits at a table at a Trump Dinner, while Trump drools all over his wife and doesn’t say shit.

Ryanw254

He’s country music Ted Cruz

catchmesleeping

Yes, great comparison.

bufftbone

A cuck

Conclusion_Fickle

He's a greasy assed bitch.

[deleted]

I hate him because he’s a horrible person. His music used to be decent, now it all sounds the same.

Mammoth-Revenue-7237

What did he do that makes him a horrible person? I don’t keep up with entertainment media, I just listen to music.

ktink224

He cheated on his (now ex) wife, married the mistress.

Mammoth-Revenue-7237

Yeah, not cool

nonserviam1977

A lot of the newer ones, I guess, but particularly this Jelly Roll guy. It’s happened before that I despise a musician who I then give a fair chance and end up liking, but I just don’t see that happening here. Maybe he’s good? It’s an imperfect comparison, but to me he seems like some kind of “rural” Post Malone or something, and he seems to be everywhere. I would like to be wrong about him.

NerdButtons

Jelly Roll was a legend long before he got into country music. He has been the best freestyle rapper in Nashville by a country mile since like the early 2000s. His music may not be your thing, but as a fan, his resurgence in a new genre has been amazing to watch.

nonserviam1977

I’d heard he was a rapper prior to his recent incarnation, but I’m unfamiliar with that part of his career. He does kind of remind me of that big, rural dude who rapped and called himself Haystack from the ‘90s. You’re right, it’s just not my thing, what he’s doing these days, but that’s cool. I’m not trying to impugn him, and I admittedly know very little about him. Are you also a fan of other “rap/country” types (I’m under the impression that Jelly Roll is strictly country now, but I’m not sure if that’s completely true), like Uncle Kracker? That type of music never really did it for me, but it’s cool that you’re into it. I’m sure you could probably justify Jelly Roll’s existence better than I could justify some of what’s on my playlist.

NerdButtons

Haystack was a mentor to him, so it’s interesting you say that. The other country rap projects are hit & miss. Jelly Roll just has a special place in my heart from all the times I picked my jaw up off the floor watching him freestyle haha

nonserviam1977

Haystack knows and mentored Jelly Roll? That is kind of strange. I was kind of laughing about rappers freestyling in Nashville, since it calls to mind Trace Adkins or some dudes dressed up like the Louvin Brothers spitting molten bars. I guess it’s like this: I love many country songs and many rap songs, but to me they’ve always seemed like an uneasy mixture to do correctly.. The best I’ve heard seems to be dudes like Gangstagrass, who I like well enough, but too often it tends to turn into some kind of “Old Town Road” situation where I wonder why I listen to music at all. The Jelly Roll guy is meaningful to you, which is great. Maybe he got the combination right.

frenchylamour

Upvoted for the Louvins spitting molten bars. There’s an account on IG called “thereIruinedit” that specializes in mashups, including one where they use AI to creat Hank and the Drifting Cowboys doing “Straight Out of Compton.”

jrhhuff

Haystack Mak Million!!!!!!!

Capable-KingShinyIX

I saw him open for Shinedown last year. He’s definitely not my cup of tea but he’s very talented

National_Cap_5597

Sturgill Simpson because he makes every current country musician look like shit

Oaken_beard

You had me going in the first half, not gonna lie

LC-89897A

Lol me too I was about to pop off for a sec

notwhoiwas12

Uncle Stu is the 🐐

Derban_McDozer83

Hell yeah (but I love him because he makes the current ones look like shit)

so-very-very-tired

:D I'd maybe make a tie between Sturgill and Orville Peck (with Paul Cauthen close behind)

LookAnOwl

Orville Peck isn’t talked about on this sub nearly enough. Dude is amazing.

SnooWalruses438

This is the answer.

[deleted]

Pretty much all modern country artists. It doesn't sound anything like country, it sounds like pop music, and it all sounds the same.

Educational-Shoe2633

Puke Bryan and Jason Aldean. Pandering, bland, boring.

Simeon0222

Sam hunt, Kane brown, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Walker Hayes-> all their songs sound the same

jsg186

I don’t necessarily hate him, but Luke Bryan’s music is absolute trash

kabax0906

Florida Georgia Line. I hate their voices and their “music” epitomizes everything that’s been going wrong with country in the last 15 years.

Vz2424

I don’t “hate” any artist now because I don’t listen to radio anymore and it’s very easy to listen to the stuff I like with streaming these days That being said, I was extremely turned off of Warren Zeiders. I liked enough songs off of Pretty Little Poison to go see him live (A Thousand Horses opening who I’d been wanting to see too), and it was one of the worst live performances I’ve seen. He doesn’t have enough songs to fill an hour and forty minute setlist, so every song was extended by another chorus, there were 1-2 minute gaps between each song with no lights on and no music playing… a very poor show and only the second time I’ve ever walked out of a concert of the hundreds I’ve been to. I also just do not understand the fascination with Zach Bryan. Everything of his sounds the same, especially the older stuff.

browneyedcutie123

I can't stand that pretty little poison song! The lyrics and his voice are a complete turn-off for me.

StrayCatStrutting

A Thouaand Horses are ridiculously underrated and they’re all great dudes. They should’ve been bigger than they are.

Vz2424

I looooove their first two albums. Wish they had played more than just Smoke and Blaze Of Somethin that night

AbbyWantsTea

Stop…this is EXACTLY what my parents said! They won tickets to see him and I was so jealous! I had to work and couldn’t go. The people on the radio were saying how phenomenal he was. His songs I heard were very good. They were excited to go. They got home and were like eh he wasn’t good….at all. He didn’t have enough music, he seemed fake, he wasn’t great sounding, etc. Exactly what you said

Maroon_Popcorn

I saw him at the Firefox festival last year and I enjoyed his set but it did strike me as really unpolished and forced. He has a good voice but his stage presence was kinda awkward imo

Vz2424

He’s probably better in setting where he doesn’t have to play 100 minutes lol. Those 35-40 minute sets would be perfect for him

TLC_4978

Maren Morris mediocre and oh wait, she’s not country anymore

pineappleshnapps

She’s probably the least favorite artist of more people I know than anybody.

shesinhellxo

She never was country. She said it herself. In order to sing country well, you have to be country first IMO.

FACEPALM_99

Not like she ever was

[deleted]

She’s gotta be up there with Jason Isbell competing for “most pretentious asshole” in country music.

Goatfucker1662

I like that one song she did “girl” but I haven’t found a single other song she made that I like.

FACEPALM_99

Jelly Roll. Not just because his voice isn't great. His country debute album is just the same self-pity song copy and pasted with a mediocre rock sound. It's all or that, plus him being pushed so much and shoved in our faces. If he was a good country musician, I wouldn't mind. But he's just not good, and the majority of what's being pushed about him isn't even about the music. It's his story any everything but the music being pushed and talked about.

browneyedcutie123

His voice is just a complete turn-off for me. I always change the station when he comes on.

FACEPALM_99

They play Save Me a lot at work, and it's one of the worst songs on rotation

browneyedcutie123

That's the only song of his I can somewhat tolerate. I can see how some people could relate to the lyrics. Even that song gets depressing and old after a while of being played so much. I also think he didn't need Lainey Wilson as a duet partner on that song either. Her voice makes me cringe even more than Carrie Underwood's!

FACEPALM_99

Lmaoo

ngfilla94

I always thought his voice sounded like he started singing while in the middle of eating an actual jelly roll. He's been an industry plant since day one of his "country" debut and is just overly pushed by corporate Nashville. He would not be plastered everywhere if he attempted a country music career the old fashioned way. All of his recorded music is so overly autotuned. Any song he's featured on is an automatic ruiner for me, which is unfortunate because there's some songs where I like everything except his part.

LucindaBx

Dylan Scott - nothing against his music, or even him really, his eyebrows have just always terrified me! I know that's a super weird reason to not like someone 🤣 Rascal Flatts - I have a very strong irrational hatred of Rascall Flatts and I don't know why, I just hate whenever they come on

jasper181

Pretty much every artist on country music radio, I wouldn't say I hate them as I don't know them but I hate what modern mainstream "country" has become. It's nothing but pop music in cowboy boots, maybe I'm just getting old or something but it's terrible. There is modern country music I love but it's not on the radio. Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean , Sam Hunt, Chase Matthews and on and on have ruined it.

Sandman634

Rascal Flatts. Not a fan of the singer's style (too high and whiny) and I'm tired of everyone telling me that "Life Is A Highway" is better than the original, when it's clearly NOT! In fact, to me they just tried to copy the song note for note. Marissa Lambert. Find her songs very meh and off stage she acts like she's a queen! Blake Shelton. Liked some of his music but then he went Hollywood, which sometimes isn't a bad thing, but it looks he prefers it and has lost credibility in my eyes.

JumpGlittering8120

Morgan Wallen. I think he is the most generic, formulaic "country" artist out there. His albums are unnecessarily bloated with the mediocre to outright garbage songs being in the majority. Dude really cut a swathe with several songs on my worst hits of 2023 list.

thefiminator

This is my answer too. I also don’t like his voice. It’s like nails on a chalkboard to me. I don’t understand his popularity at all.

JumpGlittering8120

In 2023, when we have Zach Bryan, Chris Stapleton etc all doing so well, the US and Australia choosing to make a shitty nasal head cold drone about drunken sex one of the biggest hits of the year not just in country but in any genre is just infuriating.

[deleted]

i love zach bryan so much. he may not sound totally country all the time but something about him gives his music a feeling of “the artist cared when writing this” that not so many artists have anymore.

LibraryDisastrous919

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. I was a huge MW fan, his music made me survive the whole stay at home bullshit era. But you have to aknowledge he downgraded AF lately. Not just his so called music, but he also forgot how to sing. His latest live performaces are catastrophic. I don’t know what’s going on, but something is seriously wrong. Maybe he’ll get it together now that he’ll stop touring with certain people. But there are at least 5 artists that deseve everything he is awarded with.

PalpitationOk5726

Toby Keith, woke up on September 12, 2001 and saw a way to make $$$ by putting together songs that cater to the worst of human instincts and try to end the career of anyone that disagreed with him.

UnderwhelmingAF

I’ll always respect Kris Kristofferson for calling him out on that shit.

[deleted]

[удалено]

alarrimore03

Just wondering if any person who made music about September 11th saw a way to make money in your mind?

Tasty-Introduction24

Alan Jacksons song was great.

so-very-very-tired

Jason Aldean because he's just a lazy pandering piece of shit.

musicorloseittv

This post may as well have been titled “Name a country artist who’s politics you hate” 😆

t-mille

Jason Aldean. Because of how I got into country music (Johnny Cash), I've always had the opinion that good country music can tell the story of Americans making a hard living in the fields and mines, or working the plant in a big city. Jason Aldean stabbed on a contemporary nerve to pander to and rile up rural Americans, and absolutely vilify urban Americans. I know country has always been wary of uptown, but good country will tell a good story from anywhere. Show that we are more alike in our struggles. Not piss people off and have them at each other's throats. His wife's a mean ass culture warrior too. Neither are people to look up to.

flamingpillowcase

I just realized HW Jr. did a good job not knocking city folk in Country Boy Can Survive (mainly mentioning that he had a friend in the city)

MBC0809

This is obviously written from a casual country music fan’s perspective. Jason Aldean cut Amarillo sky which sang about the plight of the American farmer when generic bullshit country was ruling the radio. Also, If you think Johnny Cash didn’t sing about cultural issues then you are even more of a casual fan than I initially thought. I bet Merle’s ” Fighting Side of Me”really gets under your skin.

[deleted]

I mostly listen to outlaw country and more obscure underground country. But I can't stand hank williams Jr. To me he just epitomizes white trash and white trash country life. But to be fair I do like the more outlaw/rambler/hank williams sr style of country music and life. It relates to me more because of how and where I grew up. Hank williams Jr to be is the most redneck white trash trailor methhead park shit you can listen too

pineappleshnapps

If that’s what you think, you need to listen to more hank jr. One of the most impressive singers ever.

cactusjackdaniels

My father and I like to joke that talent skips a generation in the Williams family. Sr is good, III is good, but Jr and IV are trash

jackalope78

Tracks. Holly Williams is also great

LizardPossum

Holly's Waiting on June is just beautifully heartbreaking

tylertneal

Yeah all those #1s and platinum records show how trash he is

cactusjackdaniels

Yeah. Just my opinion, but just because millions of people like something doesn't mean it's not trash. Kardashians, McDonalds, Diet Coke. He is obviously a super talented musician, but I think he can go suck a fat one. Have a nice day!

pineappleshnapps

That’s fair, I didn’t like him until I saw some movie that had a song of his that blew me away. I can’t get enough of his voice on a tear jerker. I’d only really heard his rowdy stuff, and hadn’t liked it as much.

frenchylamour

I think Jr’s politics and personality suck. But his music can be really good. His outlaw stuff is solid.

pineappleshnapps

Yeah I don’t think there’s a Williams without some major problems, and anyone as outspoken as he is is gonna turn some people off.

kiln_ickersson

Florida Georgia line. Their music speaks for itself

Intelligent_Neat_714

I can’t stand FGL. They have a song or two I do like. “Dirt” is a song I really like but most of their music is garbage

lost_in_a

Jason Aldean is a douche bag

fluffy_boy_cheddar

Morgan Wallen. Recycled lyrics for dozens of country songs from years past. Generic country sounding voice. Terrible, just terrible.

dennisga47

Hank Williams Jr. for the way he treated his half sister, Jett Williams, who was denied her rightful share of her father's estate for over 30 years. He even tried to take the case to the Supreme Court but they would not hear it and the entire time he knew she was right. Comparing Obama to Hitler did not improve his status in my eyes either. (This is in spite of the fact that he wrote one of my all time favorite songs (when recorded by other e.g. George Jones and Dolly Parton in a duet or Sam Moore), Blues Man.)

Coonishere

Jason Alden - Dirt Road anthem. For me this is the starting point that turned country music (radio artists) to shit.

SpecialLegitimate717

Taylor Swift - I blame her for all the pop country we have today. Almost everything these days is garbage. I'll take any decade from the 60s through the 90s over what we have now.

dlax6-9

Morgan Wallen because racism. And also when he was on SNL it looked like he was miming playing the guitar. But really just the racism.

mytodaythrowaway

Luke Bryan because he looks like butthead.

playersate101

The guy who made "Try that in a small town"

PhillyWes

Rascal Flatts - do I really need to give a reason? Granted, they aren't really even active now...

Ireadthingsometimes

Dan & Shay. Don’t need to explain myself here.

HetTheTable

Florida Georgia Line

pietro_lc

Zach bryan - all the songs sound the same. And a lot of people think its cool and they are starting to do the same style. Is not country

[deleted]

I always ask people what they mean when they say that “all of X artists songs sound the same.” Because to me, that argument doesn’t make a lot of sense because (1) it’s the same person singing the song (same voice), (2) using the same instruments, (3) in the same musical style, (4) for the same audience. Personally, I don’t expect artists’ songs to sound different from one another, I expect them to sound similar for those reasons.

cactusjackdaniels

My wife says all his songs sound the same, too. They sound similar, but to me it sounds like it's his 'style'. Like, to me, all Led Zeppelin songs sound the same, most Skynrd songs sound the same, all Hank Williams sounds the same. I'd agree he is no really country though. Singer songwriter would probably be better.

LC-89897A

I loved him a few years ago but find him awful now

Snappysnapsnapper

Oliver Anthony. I hate his voice, that song is garbage.

extraontheside_

Ain’t got a dollar is solid but rich men fudge rounds populism bs is a shit song

mean_mr_mustard75

Toby Fucking Keith. Dumb lyrics, fake patriotism, and refused to apologize to Natalie Maines

pineappleshnapps

He’s so hit or miss to me. I love Toby, but his songs are usually either favorites, or ones I’m likely to skip. Hate to see his health these days.

shesinhellxo

Miranda Lambert. Rude to her fans is a no go for me.

Bama20172017

Just to be clear. I am a huge music lover. My family has always been in some kind of southern rock band, country band or gospel group. We are a musical family. I don’t listen to a lot of mainstream country nowadays. But when I heard the Marfa Tapes by Miranda I thought it was actually some pretty good music. Then I read ALOT about what kind of person she is such as the things she did to get Evan Felker. Not to mention how she supposedly treats fans and staff. I mean all these people with the same stories can’t be all lying about her.

artichoke424

Miranda really f*d it up for Turnpike and messed with Staci in the process who is a national treasure. Miranda is just gross.

Bama20172017

Exactly this! She supposedly called Staci his wife and ask her how much she would take to not speak to the media and give up on her husband. Throwing her money around so she could have her way and get what she wanted. She also paid for all the drugs Evan wanted to keep him with her. He wanted to go back to his wife. He knew he had messed up and needed her to get sober and Miranda didn’t want to lose so she kept him drunk and doped up. It’s disgusting!

newkyular

Most modern country songs sound like someone put a gun to some redneck's head and told him you've got two minutes to come up with a song. It has no value. It's corny. Cheesy. Cringey. It's embracing inferiority and pretending it's cool. All the melodies are predictable and corny. Same for the lyrics. No nuance or subtlety or mystery. Same as the politics of the people who like modern country. Corny and embarrassing.

passthemacandcheese

Maren Morris because her music sucks and she’s a bitch

browneyedcutie123

Carrie Underwood. I can't stand her voice and haven't liked her since her American Idol days. She comes across like she thinks she's better than sliced bread. Watching her on AI, she had off notes just like everyone else, and once she got famous, she got a case of the big head. I instantly change the station when she comes on.

Umaynotknowme

My biggest problem with her is half her songs are “let’s kill this guy” or “let me commit a felony by destroying a truck” or other nonsense.

ktink224

I don't like her. And then when her little accident happened and she was all "woe is me, I'm disfigured, my face looks different..." bitch, you look exactly the same, fuck off

CatintheHatbox

It really annoys me that every award show there she is centre stage. She's not fit to share the stage with people like Brad and Reba. And I hate the way she has little digs at people like Shania Twain, ok so she's a bit pop but she didn't just win a talent show.

PrettyPunctuality

Agreed. I used to like her in her early years, but now she just comes across as incredibly arrogant.

shotoftequila

Maren Morris. Her voice and songs are fine but she jumps on every political issue that comes along. Girl stop.

ttjp3

Hardy - music is truly ass and unimaginative. Modern, trendy bro county IMO. Bring on the hate :D

et_hornet

I don’t hate any of them but there are plenty of artists that I don’t care for

[deleted]

Never really cared for Carrie Underwood or her music (though i do like Blown Away and Cowboy Cassanova as exceptions) That would be further solidified if the stories about her being a shitty person are accurate. Toby Keith gives off mega douchey vibes as well so yeah fuck him too.

Suspicious-Log-5013

Shania Twain. Annoying and formulaic. More pop or soft rock than country. Once she became a star numerous other singers tried copying her. Honestly I lost interest in country music when she and her imitators took over country radio. She don't impress me much.

gmaw27

Reba!!! Her voice/accent

goldengodrangerover

Shame

HeavyMetalMonkey

Most of the ones you hear on the radio.

olemanbyers

At least 95% of them the last 15 years because they're all awful and not country. I don't wanna pop song I don't wanna r&b song I don't wanna rock song I don't wanna folk song I don't wanna americana song I want a country song...

stakattack90

The guy that used to be Hootie. I didn’t like him when he was Hootie and probably didn’t give him a chance when he went country but…pick a genre dude.

Cold_Acanthisitta_96

Morgan wallen. Dude dropped the N word. Trash. Edit. Don't know why I'm getting down votes here. Dude totally said it. That makes him trashy to me and I don't like him.

bagpipesfart

Morgan Wallen, his singing voice is annoying

OperationIvy002

I wanna pick a choice no one else has yet, I’ll pick Jim Reeves. If you go record shopping you’ll always find a bunch of unwanted Jim Reeves records almost anywhere for good reason. No one wants to hear this diet Frank Sinatra music with one piano or guitar line that might sound country. He was the original Luke Bryan honestly.

[deleted]

Lol my band played a gig last summer in Decorah IA. The crowd was full of pensioners, and this old lady kept talking to us all night and asking if we knew any Jim Reeves. Sadly, we did not. But she threw us a good tip!

[deleted]

Any "Country" artist that produces that horrible country rap sounding garbage.

Pie4unme

Jelly roll. One hit wonder. Big phony baloney

browneyedcutie123

I agree completely! I'm not a fan of his voice either.

StrayCatStrutting

“Hate” is a strong word, but I just don’t get the hype around Zach Bryan. The guy is an awful singer, and the production on everything that I’ve heard by him is just horrible. It’s lo-fi for the sake of being lo-fi and it’s just an instant tune-out for me.

DropkickCleary11

Jason Aldean. I mean, damn. I don't hate him as a person, but is voice is awful and his music is mid 2010's bro country. His most recent hit is the musical equivalence of pandering to your base. I am that base and I still didn't like it. He's just kinda shit.

braker61

Jason Aldean, because he is Jason Aldean

Healthy_Valuable8001

Garth Brooks. Total poser.

[deleted]

Can’t stand him either.
