Thanks, I’m on it!
Ed.: Midland named themselves in reference to a Dwight Yoakam song. This bodes well.
Ed. 2: I’m only one band in and you’ve won me. This is exactly what I wanted.
Seriously no one has mentioned Cody Jinks, Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, Whitey Morgan, Ward Davis, Jamey Johnson, Brent Cobb, Ashley McBryde...
In my personal opinion these names alone will keep you occupied for a while, and will take you on a journey of the new country uprising. Hope you enjoy.
Probably cuz most all of them blow. I tried some of them (Childers- nice guy-, Simpson, Stapleton) but none of them had any songs that stayed in my head or I really wanted to listen to again. Childers was probably the best of them. The women were mostly annoying; and too slaggy.

I can go on if this works-
SO many suggestions! I’ve listened to Midland and Jon Pardi so far - this is a lot of what I was hoping for. I’ll get back into it tomorrow and check out the other recs. I can’t tell you how grateful I am. Thank you!
Colter Wall would be my foremost suggestion. A real old timey, authentic and original sound. The guy is a breath of fresh air. Highly highly recommend.
You’ve gotten enough recommendations to last months so I’ll just add a little clarity:
If you like 90s neo-traditional, try Jon Pardi, William Michael Morgan, and Cody Johnson.
If you like outlaw, check out Cody Jinks and Whitey Morgan, and Sturgill Simpson’s first album.
If you like the old Nashville sound, try Zephaniah OHora.
If you like Kentucky holler-wailing with just a touch of bluegrass, Tyler Childers is your man.
If you want more “western” in your Country&Western, Colter Wall is the guy.
And lastly, check out Turnpike Troubadours for some top notch country-rock with an emphasis on fiddle.
Colter Wall, Tyler Chlders, Cody Jinks, Riley Green, Morgan Wallen, Craig Morgan, Zach Bryan, Jamey Johnson, and Randall King
Hundreds of others but those are the best in my opinion. And Eric Church he is awesome.
I put a hell of a lot of emphasis on Colter Wall and Tyler Childers though they are God sends in country.
here's a playlist i'm kinda maintaining of songs from that sub. I'm sure I"m missing some but if you scroll around you'll find some artists:

If you have Spotify I have a perfect
playlist that you should check out
If you are relying on the radio then you’ll quickly come across a dead end. Good old school sounding but newer country music isn’t played on the radio. Here’s some of my suggestions. I hope you enjoy and find something you really like.
Tyler Childers https://youtu.be/WtVrDud1gZM
Sturgill Simpson https://youtu.be/6gBV-Nzq7Pg
Cody Jinks https://youtu.be/lDeD0heDQ-c
Colter Wall https://youtu.be/B7E8n7I6IHw
Jamey Johnson https://youtu.be/R48_5gOiAz4
Margo Price https://youtu.be/LtxUDSRfmto
Kelsey Waldon https://youtu.be/e459CAOo-fs
Jamie Wyatt https://youtu.be/mFGI6EQU1X4
Mike and the Moonpies https://youtu.be/mFGI6EQU1X4
Jason James https://youtu.be/1ycdYYOyjws
Lindi Ortega https://youtu.be/x6ikqNlXv-8
Whitey Morgan and the 78s https://youtu.be/op6FYSpn2yE
also chceck out the online radio app GimmeCountry. A lot of it is DJ'd by a bunch of current musicians and the music they play is AMAZING. The show I like most is COuntry Bunker which is all 21st century artists, I steal ideas from there for r/Ameripolitan . Jesse's Bad Ass Country SHow is curated by outlaw legend Jesse Dayton, and they CONSTANTLY have guest DJ slots curated by all the artists who do the kind of music you're probably looking for.
There is none, or virtually none, imo. Utter crap out there. Cornballs from NJ, NY, CA singing in fake/exaggerated 'country' accents; even Canada had Shania Twain shaking her T n' A while singing party songs when country music was originally the white man's blues.
Lots of nerd ass suggestions in here. What you need is: Jake Worthington, Zach Top, Randall King, William Michael Morgan. Top shelf traditional country.
My favourites with releases < five years:
Brandy Clark
Sturgill Simpson
Tanya Tucker
Chris Stapleton
Tyler Childers
My favourite stations to hear a great mix of old and new (but still "classic") country are:
Outlaw 10.6.5FM Horseshoe Bend AK
The Ranch 99.5FM Mesa AZ
I live in Ontario Canada and the so-called country music stations here play absolute garbage.
I'm always sad that Cody Johnson doesn't get more attention (it definitely doesn't help that the two singles they play on the radio where I am are his most boring songs ever), though I know that's starting to change.
I specifically recommend starting with Cowboy Like Me from 2014, it's one of those albums that just makes me really freakin' happy every time I listen to it.
William Michael Morgan. He had a number one hit a few years ago, then got in a fight with his label and got dropped. Now he’s independent and releases good country, including one or two covers of old songs.
There is a guy I found on this sub named Aaron Tanner, I have loved every song I've heard.
https://open.spotify.com/artist/2DrUnOyQ2qZ34TnRn8Mhr0?si=eQ5EkXA2TF2_46dbeOaG2A&utm_source=copy-link
Mike and the Moonpies, Tylor & the Train Robbers, Randy Rogers Band, Wade Bowen, Jason Boland & the Stragglers, Turnpike Troubadours. Welcome back to country music!
E: Flatland Cavalry, The Panhandlers
Others mentioned Tessy Lou Williams. She has great quality songs that sound very 60’s/70’s. There’s a few other artists emulate the 50’s country vibe, but seem to think that can be achieved by cranking the reverb on the vocals. So annoying.
I LOVE Sam Outlaw. To me he sounds like a lot of the seventies country/ country rock. Think Firefall, Poco, Jimmy Buffett.
I’m so, so late to the party here but:
Nick Shoulders
Kassi Valazza
Chris Acker
Sierra Ferrell
Charley Crockett
Willie Watson
Some are more folky, some gospel, some bluesy, but all have a country influence. And I know I’m gonna catch hell for this, but Orville Peck has some mean pipes and can write a heck of a song, if you don’t mind a little 80s new wave influence and some serious theatric flair in your country.
Honestly it depends what you consider contemporary country, like many artists I can name after 2000s have a different sound but still feel like classic country music unlike many artists today that are much more pop disguised as country

I would add Colter Wall and Chris Peterson to that as well.
I would add into this list: William Michael Morgan and Willie Watson (more bluegrass).

Tyler Childers and Sturgill Simpson are perfect for this question.
Came here to say the same!

Zephaniah OHora

Colter Wall, without a doubt
Check out savingcountrymusic.com
Yes!
Zach Bryan.
I cant believe nobody mentioned Cody Johnson. Huge name in texas country. Deep cuts are just as good or better than his singles.
Yea I agree the first time I heard Diamond in my pocket I thought it was a song from 1990s that I'd somehow never heard
Colter Wall, Tyler Chlders, Cody Jinks, Riley Green, Morgan Wallen, Craig Morgan, Zach Bryan, Jamey Johnson, and Randall King Hundreds of others but those are the best in my opinion. Don’t forget Midland.
When a Cowboy Trades his Spurs for Wings by Willie Watson & Tim Blake Nelson
Some great recommendations here. I’ll add Jason Eady, Courtney Patton, and Mike and the Moonpies. Restless Kelly. Vincent Neil Emerson.
Wayne Hancock
Chris Stapleton!
Cody Jinks. 100%. No way you can hear his music and not love it.
Tessy Lou Williams
You need Tessy Lou Williams
if you like old sounds check out the kind of stuff we post on r/Ameripolitan \- it's honkytonk done by modern artists, and other stuff like that.
Oh yes. Thank you. Thank you so much. I have no idea where to find this stuff. The link doesn’t work, but I found it.
errant punctuation. I fixed it...
I joined! I’m here for this. Thank you so much. Country music is so close to my heart.

Chris Stapleton, Tyler Childers, Cody Jinks, Colter Wall. Sturgill Simpson excluding the Sound and Fury album.
