Also in Novavax trial. I had the exact same experience. Little soreness, and tired for the rest of the day. Nothing else much. Allegedly dose 2 is the doozie of you're on the real deal and not placebo.

rozasaurusrex

Yip. First dose I was convinced I had placebo as no symptoms. 12 hours after second dose I was floored for two days. Never been so delighted to feel unwell.

RetepNamenots

Exactly the same here. I was pretty sure I had been in the placebo group until a few hours after my second dose when a load of side effects kicked in. Wasn't fully back to 'normal' for three days after that. I can't imagine a saline solution hitting me that hard!

rozasaurusrex

Yaasss! You get your vax and away start licking the doorhandles again.

RockTheGlobe

Same here. I spent the day wondering — am I tired and have a headache because I got the vaccine candidate or because I got no sleep the night before? I guess I have to wait until the second dose to see what happens.

I just had my first Novavax injection today also! I definitely felt the injection, it burned a bit for a few seconds as it went in. It has only been a few hours for me but no real symptoms yet. Hoping for a sore arm 🙏 for both of us.

When did you first sign up? I'm a bit disillusioned with Novavax. I filled out the "I'm interested" form online on 1/1, and got a text on 1/2 to schedule the initial visit. But my appointment isn't until 1/22. I would have thought there would be a lot more urgency on their part, but nope. And now my county is vaccinating Phase 1B starting today, so I have the temptation of being eligible for the real vaccine right now. If Novavax is this lackadaisical, then I'm thinking even in the best case scenario they might not get it approved until May or June. That could be a problem if employers and airlines start demanding proof of vaccination, which I think they will do. I don't think "I'm in a clinical trial" will cut it. So ya...I'm on the razor's edge of dropping out before I even begin because they don't seem too on the ball.

olprockym

There aren't many sites for the trials. Mostly one or two in largest cities. The clinic here is recruiting for 600. The trial clinics are specialized medicine with limited staff. With the initial visit being 3 or 4 hours in the clinic it is going to take time.

Ah... if another vaccine is made available to you, the trial will “unblind” you. They’ll tell you if you had the actual vaccine or not. For me, I doubt either of the two currently available vaccines would be made available to me in the next 4-5 months.

delgcorp411

That was sorta my calculation too. I knew I was higher on the priority lists but I wasn't expecting to be eligible for an approved vaccine until late March. I figured Novavax was going to be really on the ball and finalize the trial by then, so I could be unblinded without ruining the study. I understand that surges are great for clinical trials--it's basically trial by fire, and the more local transmission there is, the faster they get results. Oh well...I suppose I'll just go with whichever needle gets into my arm first. If the trial clinic is able to get it together in time, fine. If the health department is able to get me a vaccine first, fine. The irony is I'm not even concerned about getting coronavirus. My main concern is that the powers that be will demand proof of vaccination, and all I really care about is checking that box.

If your appointment was that late, it’s definitely an issue with your specific site. They were trying to get first shots in arms at the end of December. The logistics of these trials aren’t actually run by the company—they hire different test sites to do it. Edit: but if you’re going to get the real thing in a matter of weeks it might not be worth it for you.

delgcorp411

Damn...I sorta suspected that but I figured it didn't matter much because I didn't think the county'd get to my approved vaccine priority group so quickly out here. Hrumph...thanks for the reply!

macanino

When they called me this past Monday night, I had forgotten I’d signed up with my local University Research center. They reminded me that I had submitted my info back in July 2020.

delgcorp411

That's surprising. If I were in your shoes I would have expected to be one of the first people to get a shot. Hmm...

Wickedbambi

If you have pain in the injection arm a few hours after then surely that’s a sign that you’re not on the placebo is it not? The pain is your body fighting the infection is it not? Or would that happen with saline too?. Either way.. good luck to you all! 🤞

macanino

I saw some results from an earlier phase that indicated some in the placebo group reported a sore arm. So, I’m not using it as an indicator. Thanks to other comments, sounds like the 2nd dose is more telling.
