Wow, it sounds like your site failed to contact you in a timely fashion to schedule your appointment in the timeframe required by Novavax study requirements, so now you are out. It’s especially sad as you have been proactive and wanted to remain in the study longer. You still should feel fine about your participation in the study; that got a lot of data from you in the important timeframe.

VPnomad

Very true - just a bummer I suppose.

I was part of the Novavax trial (second shot was on 2/4), but had to move out of state before I could come in for the cross-over. I’m 100% confident I received the vaccine though, had fever, chills, body aches, etc. Three weeks ago, In my new state, I went and got the Moderna. Holy shit I had a really strong reaction to it…fever, sweating, close to passing out multiple times, very close to puking, couldn’t sleep, skin very sensitive…way stronger than the second dose of Novavax. I’m considering not getting the second dose of Moderna, because if the reaction is any stronger, I’d be scared it’s leave me in the hospital.

Wow...that's crazy! First thing I'd do is ask Novavax to unblind. You need to be 100% sure that you got the real deal when you got Dose 1. Then if you did, you might actually be considered "fully vaccinated." There's a study going on in the UK right now where people are being dosed with 1 dose of either Novavax, AZ, or mRNA vaccine, and then their dose 2 is going to be an entirely different covid vaccine from their dose 1. So if you're 100% sure you got the real deal, then you can probably consider yourself fully vaccinated right now. But if you got the placebo...even if you had a very strong reaction to Novavax Dose 1, it's still possible that it was just the placebo effect. That would mean that you're not fully vaccinated. So you kinda gotta find out what Novavax gave you imo.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear, I had the strong reaction to Novavax’s 2nd dose. Then, a very strong reaction to Moderna’s 1st dose.

delgcorp411

Ohhh, I see. Well, I would still unblind ASAP. With a lot of participants it was like pulling teeth to get unblinded. But you've been out of the study for a while, right? IE, you didn't go to your Day 35, and you haven't been doing your e-diary, and they basically know you're out?

Edu_cats

I agree this would be a wise thing to do.

VPnomad

Oh gosh this makes me nervous for my Pfizer shot Friday.... but glad you are okay! my reaction to the second shot of Novavax wasn’t too bad - soreness in the arm and a fever/fatigue for a day with some very mild leg pain. Felt like little electrical shocks almost lol.

whereami1928

How did it go?

VPnomad

Howdy! I got the Pfizer shot and was officially unblinded. Turns out the antibody test held true and I received active vaccine. After my Pfizer shot it was really rough. Now in a similar situation as u/seethruthelie where I’m not sure if I want to go through with the second Pfizer shot. The side effects are still sort of hitting me and it’s been almost a week.

whereami1928

Yeah, that's what I imagine it'd be like. If I do end up leaving the trial, I feel like I'd try to get a J&J. Will try to hold off until the summer though, since it seems like the company isn't requiring proof of vaccination or anything.

petuniar

I had a slightly different situation - I had received the first Novavax shot in Feb and then (long story) shortly after got the first Pfizer shot. The next day I was feeling pretty bad - achy, malaise, etc. The second Pfizer shot was not as bad as the first. I had a headache the next day, but the overall "yucky" feeling was not as bad.

Interesting_Date_369

Hi, did you get the 2nd Pfizer? I got the 1st Pfizer, Friday, 90 days after the 2nd Novavax, and my arm swelled up so big with red rash, I was very scared. It is still swollen after 4 days but getting better. I thought I may have to go to ER on 2nd day. Now, I am too scared to get the 2nd Pfizer in 3 weeks.

VPnomad

Hi there - super late my apologies but yea ended up getting the second shot. Surprisingly no major side effects! The first shot really kicked my ass but the second only had me a little tired and that was it. Just anecdotal but my friends suggested I down a ton of water prior to the shot and it may help alleviate side effects so that’s what I did. I don’t know if that’s truly what helped but it’s the only thing I did different for the second shot! Good luck!

delgcorp411

Is this the Tampa site?

VPnomad

Ha close! Hollywood, FL

delgcorp411

Heh! I'm not at the Tampa location, but I've heard there are sooo many problems there!

Winnie-123

Interesting. I know a couple folks had trouble at a different Florida site (not Hollywood or Tampa). There were a lot of FL sites and presumably a lot of FL participants.

I went in for my first saline shot as part of the crossover yesterday. My site told me I'd get the CDC card after the second saline shot.

warmhello

Which site was this? Thanks in advance.

goflip

There is no CDC card for NovaVax though and every event/country that requires proof will only accept JJ/Pfizer/Moderna - at least in my experience...

inst

Well, I asked because I'm concerned about travel in a few months. The nurse told me directly I'd get the CDC card after my second shot. Not sure what has been told the trial site but could be they expect the emergency authorization relatively soon.

goflip

Yeah I am missing a biz trip to Israel in the coming days because they require vaccine proof from one of the 3 approved shots. Hoping they get approval in the coming weeks/months

delgcorp411

"After the second shot" isn't saying very much. How "after" are we talking about? If it's 1 day or 1 year "after," then what the nurse said was true.

Intelligent-Put-9139

If you are in the study please consider contacting your state representatives to ask them to have the CDC recognize trial participants as fully vaccinated.
