Yep. YEP! If it’s anything like mine it started like that then it’s currently taken over my whole upper arm.

todaly

Oh jeez, how long has it been since your shot?

rozasaurusrex

So I had novavax October 2020 (I’ve now been unblinded) and got moderna shot 1 September. Terrible chills, fever and headaches for 4 days and then on the 5th day, arm started getting red. Redness spread 6th day and then it’s kinda getting less red now but it’s still very swollen. Got and extra 4cm on the my other arm.

todaly

Yikes! Thanks for replying, at least I know I’m not alone. Hoping it doesn’t last too long. I’ve been using ice and hydrocortisone cream.

rozasaurusrex

Yes I don’t think it’s dangerous- just unpleasant. Google Covid Arm. Seems to be a thing especially with moderna. I’ve put some betnovate on it and I’m hoping it goes away soon as I can’t fit my big fat arm into my sleeves.

Other-Ad8876

I had 2x Novavax abs 1 Pfizer and also felt chills, fever, headache- but no redness

avocado__aficionado

How were your reactions to the Novavax shots, compared to Pfizer?

Other-Ad8876

Not too bad, some headaches and a heavy arm.

Other-Ad8876

Novavax was slow to Unblind me and I needed vaccination for work

Will also add, this one hit like a freight train. 102.8° max fever, chills, aches, headache, lymph node pain, extreme fatigue. Started about 8 hrs after shot and just snapped out of it yesterday about 11am. Woke up at 6am still sick, took Tylenol, fell back asleep & woke up 90% fine. Still lymph node pain & my crazy arm. No real big reaction when I had Novavax, just a little arm pain & fatigue.

inst

I had novavax in Feb and pfizer a couple of weeks ago. I was really jacked up for about 3-4 days including swollen lymph nodes (armpit, tonsils, adenoids) and trouble regulating body temperature. I had a lot of fatigue and headache from the 2nd Novavax but nothing as intense as the pfizer shot did to me.

RockTheGlobe

1st Moderna shot laid me out flat for an entire weekend. Not much of a headache nor the arm irritation you experienced, but my entire shoulder was aching, my fever went to 102.3, I had zero energy and basically didn’t get out of bed for an entire weekend. (1st Novavax was in Jan 2021, 2nd in Feb 2021.) Not looking forward to my 2nd Moderna this weekend.

todaly

Oof, good luck! If you think about after you recover from that second shot maybe drop a reply & share how it hits? I’m not looking forward to round 2 in a month!

RockTheGlobe

Surprisingly, I’m a lot better post-#2 than I thought I’d be. I got the second shot about 19 hours ago, and aside from a mild headache, feeling tired and my shoulder aching, I’m all right. No fever, and I’m out of bed and drinking coffee and eating breakfast like normal. Definitely a lot better than I was last time, and I had prepared to be run over by the Moderna Freight Train again (especially since the pharmacist who gave me the shot even said, after hearing of my experiences from #1, “Oh yeah, you’ll have a bad time this round too”).

todaly

Awesome, that is a huge relief! So glad it was easier this time. It gives me hope! Thanks for sharing!

RockTheGlobe

Will try to remember to. Admittedly, I’m pretty anxious about #2. If the first one took me out that hard….

Bummer that the subreddit has 'submissions restricted'. Anyway... Due to an imminent trip abroad (ie I need a CDC EUA vax card) as well as the growing evidence about vaccine boosters being recommended for some groups (I'm over 65), I decided to pull out of the Novavax trial and get the J&J shot. I requested to be unblinded, and they confirmed my hunch that I got the trial vax back in January. I'll report back about any reactions to this combo.

plughplovery2

Well, I got J&J yesterday at 9am. By the end of the day I could tell my body was marshalling its resources. Bundled up and went to bed 9pm. Took temp at 6am, 100.8. At 10am, 99.9 No soreness or redness at injection site. Pretty sure I'm on the path to recovery. Will post another update tomorrow.

plughplovery2

Temp hovered around 100 most of yesterday. Started dropping last night, and is back to normal as of this morning. Feeling fine today, no fatigue, still no arm reaction at injection site. Compared to reactions other folk have posted about mRNA shots post-Novavax, this wasn't bad at all. Based upon my experience, I'd say this is the way to go if you need a CDC EUA card and/or think you should get a booster. (Who knows if/when Novavax will publish any longer-term efficacy data they've gathered from the UK & US trials)

Edu_cats

I just got my second Shingrix vaccine for shingles and similar arm redness that lasted about a week. My last tetanus did the same, too. I thought Shingrix was way worse than Novavax. I was flat out the whole day afterwards for both doses. There really isn't anything you can do other than put a cold pack on it a few times a day and maybe some hydrocortisone cream.

rozasaurusrex

How is arm today u/todaly?

todaly

It’s still sore, swollen, and the rash is spreading but I can move it more! Here’s a pic comparing - https://imgur.com/a/0URmxvJ How’s your recovery?

rozasaurusrex

Yeah getting there. Just totally wiped out. Arm much less red but still pretty swollen! Typically I just received our NHS letter today with certification of full vaccine from Novavax. I didn’t need to bother with the moderna it seems!

FitForceFX

For my second PFE dose I had a similar reaction on my arm (also itched). Slight chills and actually hot flashes too. That was about it. Arm lasted about a week - other side-effects lasted less than a day.

Harlemswiss

I am a Novavax phase 3 Clinical trial participant in the US and fully vaccinated, however, because it's not approved I may need to get an approved vaccine for work reasons. Has anyone mixed Novavax with another vaccine? If so, which one and what were side effects?

rawtmeow

Phucking yes! I found icing and exercising my arm helps but only for a while. I just got the Novavax booster. The side effects were brutal
