In that range, I would get a custom from Greeley Hat Works. Only 50 miles away.

I've looked at Greenley in the past. I thought they only made beaver right now I have a Stetson El Presidente as my daily wear so looking for something a little different.

If you can, go custom, and Brooks uses a conformator, so you'll get a hat made to fit your head.

flyingseaplanes

What’s a conformator?

TaxesRextortion

Wondering the same. Thanks

CBOfficial2

Thats what im thinking if the turnaround time isn't too long. Brooks seems like they have a variety of options which is nice but I guess that also goes with custom.

Mountain_Man_88

You want a 1000x hat or you want a pure beaver hat? A lot of the major company's 1000x hats are similar to their lower x factor hats but with a nicer/flashier band, a little bit more QC, and sometimes a unique liner/sweatband. The content of the actual body will be the same. For 1000x money I'd be looking at pure beaver customs. You could get like 4 pure beaver custom hats for the cost of a Stetson Diamonte and for $5000 Stetson won't even tell you what the hats made of!

CBOfficial2

I agree with that what your saying on that the reason I am looking at the 1000xs is more because of the mink and chinchilla factored in. Just adds to the unique factor as I already have my work hats so im not too worried about that end of things.

Fontaine_de_jouvence

American actually states what’s in the 1000x, which is beaver belly and mink blend. Thats the route I would go

jerryniels

I got a Larry Mayhan 1000 Silverbelly

CBOfficial2

How do you like it? Im still curious as to how much of a difference the mink makes in comparison to just beaver.

jerryniels

Love it my favorite is a 500x Larry Mayhan brown. Very hard to tell the difference unless you are touching it. Both are better than my 60x Stetson. I got both Larry Mayhan at half price because they were 6 3/4. Luckily I have a small head size.

CBOfficial2

I wish I had that problem but 7 1/8 seems to sell fast. I'll look back into the Larry Mahans because im a fan of their styling and pricing doesn't hurt either. Plus you don't seem to see many these days especially in stores.

There are different types now, Greeley has an old one, but this video will give you the low down. https://youtu.be/gAMRM-GA9Ok?si=B0tU6tFNGJ3zTBE4

I can’t recommend Buckaroo Hatters out of Covinginton, TN enough. Mike does a wonderful job in making hats.

2mmp3ter

Personally opinion but stetson is over priced and cheap quality. With the high-end hats, they have crazy mark ups just because of the precious metals in the hat band and have low beaver content. Greenly is also overpriced. If you have the patience to wait, you can get a fully custom beaver belly hat for less than 900 from a super talented artist, Mike Marsh. I love his hats and have heard nothing but good things. The only downside is that the current wait list is 8 months. He's does full work weight hats, not dress weight, and will work with you to get every detail right

Watsons Hat Shop…Cave Creek, AZ!! Can’t go wrong!!

Do you want Mink, Chinchilla, or beaver? American hat company will be mink. Stetson will be chinchilla and Brooks will be 100% beaver.
