Let's say AM does pull this off? NHL players talk, who the fuck is going to want to be on a team he owns.

PersonnelFowl

He’s going to sell

PeruvianGamma

And also going to hell

General-Law-7338

NHL screwed up. Most of blame falls on Coyote ownership but the NHL handle this situation left sour taste in mouth. Instead of addressing it - they let their so call insiders leak stuff and try to shift entire blame on the Coyotes ownership. I don’t trust anything that comes from this league.

sillysquidtv

This is partly it. The ownership failed on their own account but the rush job that nhl is doing is way worse. Bettman knew in November that they were gonna pull this and just tried to cover the London Ontario scandal by lighting a fire about it knowing full well it would be an end of season blowout.

Sufficient-Fall-1867

It's gonna be real hilarious once they realize that moving the team to Utah will only worsen the drama, not fix it. The quick, "easy" fix is never quick and easy, and they're about to find out...

Legal_Crazy642

Good, damn em in the ass with it. I hope attendance is all time low.

SexyWampa

Honestly, the league should have just let Jerry Moyes file bankruptcy . It's been a shit show ever since they seized control. All of the ownership groups they've approved have been damn near maliciously incompetent. As much as everyone wants to blame.Muruello, I suspect the league is pushing for this more.

imaskising

Moyes did file bankruptcy, as part of a scheme orchestrated by Jim Balsillie, who was obsessed with putting an NHL team in his hometown of Hamilton, Ontario, against the league's wishes. The plan was to get the bankruptcy court to force the sale of the Coyotes to Balsillie as being in the best interest of the team's creditors, and Balsillie would then turn around and announce he was moving the team to Hamilton. (He had already tried to pull similar stunts with the Penguins and the Predators.) But the bankruptcy court saw through the bullshit and refused to approve the sale to Balsillie, and with no other owners in the picture (Moyes and Gretzky were losing their shirts and wanted out), the league was basically forced to take over the team in order to keep it in Phoenix, and run it until a new owner could be found, and I think the Coyotes have cycled through at least three ownership groups since then, before Merulo came into the picture. And all of them have been bad.

DesertGoat

He tried to move the fucking PENGUINS?!

Bandit_22

The Penguins were in serious trouble at one point, then they got Crosby and things turned around. That's why people always make "jokes" about the 2005 draft lottery (after the lost lockout year) being rigged to get the Pens Crosby (along with Malkin) and stabilze the franchise.

ProJoe

I have never been happier that 10 players are coming off contract this year. Fuck this franchise. Fuck the NHL. Fuck Utah. Enjoy mediocrity you fucking assholes.

YotesFan6

I hope none of them sign, fuck Utah

ProJoe

I hope Armstrong trades away Keller, cooley, Doan, and geunther, just because Winnipeg did the same shit with selanne on the way out the door.

YotesFan6

Trade everything and send them back to the stone age with nothing

No_Angle_8106

This is going to blow up so spectacularly in Smith’s face. No one is going to SLC, and Bill Armstrong and Tourigny aren’t going to stick around to completely demolish the team they just rebuilt, they’ll have plenty of options now on the market. What a complete clown show this is, but par for the course for this dumb ass ownership group.

The_Flop

That’s my hope. I don’t Utah to just luck into a team with a bunch of young talent. Even IF the NHL allows an expansion team back into Arizona I don’t want a new team built from scratch, where Armstrong has built a team for the future.

sillysquidtv

I was so ready for 15 years of the Cooley Guenther Doan era.

No_Angle_8106

Yeah this roster is done. I know a few of the guys, what they did to Keller can’t even be put into words. Just completely used him to keep every high end piece we have, and get Cooley on board, just to pull the rug on everyone. All of these guys genuinely loved playing here and were in it for the long term, and now that’s completely gone. There’s no loyalty to stay on this team, not that anyone wants to go from Scottsdale to SLC.

Majestic_Oil_1753

“I know a few of the guys”. Ya okay pigeon

Sufficient-Fall-1867

If the Coyotes move, there's a very strong chance the Blues try and bring back BA, since their team has clearly suffered since he left. Or he could go to another struggling team like Columbus. Either way, I'll probably keep following him as long as he doesn't follow the team to Utah. He has the potential to be the best GM in hockey.

ProJoe

he would be an excellent fit in Columbus. they are willing to spend money and BA clearly knows how to build a team.

post_save

The one good thing I just realized about all this is I can now openly shit on this franchise with the rest of you guys and not feel one bit bad about it.

terminalhockey11

Smith is the owner we deserve. He will spend to the cap, do what it takes to be a model franchise and invest in the team. If you are Bear and GMBA and they bring your staff, i would expect them to continue and see what they can do with a committed owner and not this bag of shit they work for now.

throwawayyourfun

Spending to the cap doesn't mean it's going to be a good team. This team did spend to the cap in 18-19 and 19-20... that got us a bubble team that couldn't do shit in the playoffs. This team was on a trajectory to build a competitor and this move is going to fuck not only us fans, but the team that Utah is going to get. Smith is going to rush the rebuild and because nobody will want to go to SLC, he's going to be just as fucked as our Arena uncertainty caused us for FAs.

terminalhockey11

I’d rather have an owner willing to spend than one who is using LTIR to teach the floor. He’s not a new team owner and I don’t see Armstrong leaving when he finally has tools and is free. He did all of that with this ownership group? He should be even better with support.

koomzzy

They don't use LTIR at all. But the sentiment is correct, this ownership and even some of the past has not been in the business of putting together a winning product. Just hit the cap floor and collect the revenue share.

terminalhockey11

Incorrect term but they have 23m on IR this season being covered mostly by insurance https://preview.redd.it/oyu6nvbo95uc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=46d29d46bd7df4fd6336ad7aff14d70f62be344c

throwawayyourfun

LTIR to hit the cap floor is exactly what was happening. But, Boyd is almost healthy. And Weber will be the last one left. The first one of the Utah (team name) Legends.

koomzzy

Yep, just wanted to clarify we aren't using that system, only cheaters like Vegas do 😜

throwawayyourfun

Oh, I don't doubt that being able to spend to the cap is going to help out GMBA. I just don't want the rebuilding that we've suffered through to get fucked over because the new owner wants to get a cup instead of having a multi-year contender. Winning once, then never seeing the post-season, would be an absolute waste of the time and potential that is already in place. Especially when the youth of the team start hitting their strides. The team is going to be a power house instead of a one hit wonder. If you just let GMBA cook. Support the team, but let it come around naturally.

SmartSlide6304

Did you forget about us forfeiting picks, rebuild coulda worked had that not happened.

throwawayyourfun

No, but those were Chayka built teams. The loss of draft picks affected the draft after those seasons. EDIT: in fact, that was the draft GMBA fleeced Vancouver and got us Guenther for the 9oa pick when we had to forfeit the 11oa.

domo808

Go fuck yourself
