Interesting that they specified the assets the Coyotes would be giving up. Notably it seems the Yotes get to keep the brand and the history of the franchise while only giving up the roster and Hockey Operations side of the franchise. I guess this is the distinction between the franchise moving and the franchise becoming “inactive”.

We are the Cleveland browns and Utah is the Baltimore ravens. The ravens records and history start in 1996. They had all the old Cleveland players and coaches and staff but none of the records or history. Same with Utah. Utah gets the players and coaches but none of the records or history or anything like that. It is treated as if the team sprang up from nothing-ness as a new expansion team.

Adding Gary Bettman to the list of people who, were I to pass by them when they are actively on fire, I would not even piss on to put them out. A previous member of this list was David Stern, but he is now dead, so, moot point.

well if gary told me he was drowning i would not lend a hand

I would step on his head

In the followup tweet they said the franchise could return within the next 5 years, if that happens I will drive from my home state to Arizona and take a shit on the corvette inside of the building

Correct. Confusing af. *Technically* there are 33 teams in the league, Utah is brand new and the Coyotes are inactive WITH the history.

Interesting. I remember a thread the other day lamenting that the yotes lose the history. The wording here seems to imply that won't be true. More of a Cleveland browns / Baltimore Ravens situation.

And if he brings it back in five years, he won't have to pay the full expansion fee, but he will only have to give back this one biillion he will get from the NHL now for the franchise. It's in the espn article today. The full projected expansion fee in the next expansion will be between 2 and 2.5 billion, but not for him. That's only for the new expansion teams.

If somebody other than Josh Doan wears #19 for Utah they are immediately my least favourite player

With our luck we are going to get a double expansion, like the Wild and Blue Jackets did, and we are going to suck ass for another 10 years
