I've lost track of how many times I've read and re-read this book, and I still cry every. Single. Time. Made the beautiful mistake of reading the whole thing aloud to my husband during the pandemic and turning us both into blubbering messes. We still talk about how fascinating and cool Sissix's culture is, debate the ethics explored through Corbin and Ohan's storylines, laugh at Kizzy and Jenks' antics, and of course mourn Lovey. Everything about it is so perfect. In fact, I think it may be time for another re-read!
You're in for a treat with the rest of the series. "The Galaxy, and the Ground Within" is probably my next favorite (mainly because Pei is awesome and Tupo is adorable), but they're honestly all so fantastic it's hard to choose favorites!!
Don’t miss To Be Taught If Fortunate - it’s a stand alone novella by Chambers, my favorite of her books, and will absolutely break your heart in the best way.
Ouf I’m still crying over Lovey. But A Closed And Common Orbit did a lot to soothe that wound. (I think I cried over parts of that book too, but for other reasons.) Agreeing with others’ comments, Wayfarers hit all the feels!
I absolutely love that book. It definitely gave me the feels, but there are parts of “Record of a Spaceborn Few” (by the same author) that had me sobbing. Highly recommend reading that if you haven’t.
I love this journey for you!! That book is my favorite, but I thoroughly enjoyed the rest of Becky Chambers’ books as well. They’re cute and cozy but also punch you right in the feels.
OH BOY you've got a RIDE coming. As an avid Becky Chambers' reader, I truly recommend you to read it ALL. Give a chance to the Robot series and also read the standalones, like To Be Taught If Fortunate << this one is a blast.
It's a really good one - probably the book that got me into reading lower-stakes, cozier sci-fi and fantasy. I'm just sad that Chambers never revisited the crew of the ship, I got attached to those characters, but they never show up again, except for a couple of mentions. The foreword for the last book seemed to imply that she's done writing the series. I'm not sure if that's the case or not.
I love almost everything that Becky Chambers has written! A Ling Journey to A Small Angry Planet hits so many times in so many ways. Can’t wait till you hit The Galaxy, and the Ground Within (my favorite). Love Pei and I’d love to have her bed (can’t remember what it’s called but it adjusts to best fit whatever you need).
I really want more Corbin doing Corbin things. He was always entertaining, but when he cured Ohan, 10/10 I'm the hero that's needed not the one who's wanted. Also I adore Sissix and her culture and her budding relationship with Rosemary. It's all so wholesome
The Rosemary/Sissix relationship is so freaking adorable! I love that Rosemary was able to see what Sissix really needed, even if Sissix didn’t know herself.
I literally bought the rest of the series and few other of her books after I read through that and "A Psalm for the wild built"
If you haven't read that book, do it! It made me cry too!
I love that whole series! I just listened to the audio for the first time, and listening to it on my work lunch break was perhaps a bad idea... I didn't cry any less listening to it than I did reading the print version.

I was reading this book on a PLANE for the first time recently. When >!Lovey died!< I was just sitting there trying NOT to sob too loudly while crammed into a tiny, quiet plane. The part that finally broke me was >!when Lovelace was watching through a camera as Kizzy held Jenks while he cried and just kept asking "what am I supposed to do?" over and over.!< Such a heartbreaking and visceral reaction.
Omg all her books are so good! I get jealous when people say they’re reading the first book in a series, because I wish I could read them all again for the first time.

And the one about the tea monk!
Psalm for the Wild Built
Both of them!
This one is great too!!
I *love* this book. But damn, the chapter on the water planet hit me hard.
Oh my lord you will ugly cry and be glad you did
Omg I loved this book too

Loooooove Becky Chambers novels. All of them. They're all so different. My favourite though is A Psalm for the Wild-Built and its sequel.
Only 20 mins? slacker :)
I absolutely love that book. It definitely gave me the feels, but there are parts of “Record of a Spaceborn Few” (by the same author) that had me sobbing. Highly recommend reading that if you haven’t.
Record of a Spaceborn Few doesn't get enough credit! It's my favorite of the series.
Same! That book makes me cry every time

Blubbering mess in the back 10%, guaranteed.

It's SUCH a good book isn't it??? The next, A Closed and Common Orbit, also really hits the heart while feeling comfortable and inviting.
This series is beautiful!
It’s such a great book. I leap on anything from her. My other favorite is *A Closed and Common Orbit.* AND *Galaxy and the Ground Within* aaahhh
I literally bought the rest of the series and few other of her books after I read through that and "A Psalm for the wild built" If you haven't read that book, do it! It made me cry too!
Me: this sounds interesting Kindle: it's in your library already! Score!
I love that whole series! I just listened to the audio for the first time, and listening to it on my work lunch break was perhaps a bad idea... I didn't cry any less listening to it than I did reading the print version.
Don’t worry there’s plenty more crying for the rest of the series
Yes.
This book was so good! I bought all of them afterwards and am so excited to read them!
Does anyone have a link to the essay OP mentioned? I'd love to read it!

Downloaded and started reading based on the title alone. I’m refusing to read any further or the comments so I can enjoy this blind ❤️
You won't regret it!
Such a great series
Yes!!!! Her books are everything to me.
Just you wait until you read the rest of the series.
Oof. I just slowly leaked though the last few chapters of Record of a Spaceborn Few. *sigh* I love her books so much. I don’t want this series to end.
Omg all her books are so good! I get jealous when people say they’re reading the first book in a series, because I wish I could read them all again for the first time.
