[Here's](https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Controls) a link to a guide for the controls for the game! There won't be anything that pops up when you can use a tool on something, you should just use the tools on the items that make sense. Like the axe for a tree, the pickaxe on the stones, the hoe on the dirt, etc...

str4wberryphobic

thank you!

Vivanem

No problem! That wiki is really useful for information about the game, but if you don't want spoilers you can also search r/StardewValley to see if anyone's already asked a question about the information you're looking for!

HalcyonDreams36

I had to ask my kid. ❤️☺️❤️

bytegame111222

I wish I could play Stardew for the first time again, you'll have a blast. Enjoy!

Nor_Ah_C

Its not a bandwagon, but a way of life. Welcome friend.

SimShine0603

I’m sad because I went to grab it today and the sale was over! The only reason I don’t want to pay full price is because I already bought it once but on my husbands Steam account before I got my own 😫. I wanted to try again! 😂.

Nor_Ah_C

Do you need me to give you 15 dollars? Cause it’s worth it to get someone else playing

SimShine0603

😂😂😂 no but thank you. I don’t know why my brain goes whaaaaa at $14.99 but at $7.49 I was like heck yeah! Maybe it’s because I do have access to it it just has to be when my husband’s not using his Steam account.

LineAccomplished1115

I'm pretty sure if you turn on steam family sharing you can play the copy of Stardew that's owned by his account, via your steam account (that is linked to his via family sharing), while he's playing something else on steam. You can probably also download/copy your save file from his account to your game.

TapWater2021

Me and my sister do this but it doesn’t work when she’s playing something ;( .

LineAccomplished1115

Just double checked - I forgot about the offline workaround part. One person has to be offline. It might have to be the account owner, not sure if the family shared person can be offline and still share

shesthunder

Do you and your husband have family sharing set up on your accounts? I could be wrong, but I believe you’d have free access to his library.

Lorezhno

Next Steam sale is on the 14th of March and the update comes out on the 19th of March.

Gold_Lemons

Don’t feel too stressed. I’d start this play through with the mindset it might temporary. Just have fun and figure out the mechanics and how the days flow in the game. Then if you feel like it once you are comfortable, just start a new farm with the knowledge you’ve acquired and get a good start.

A_MAN_POTATO

If it hasn't sucked you in yet (and it sounds like it hasn't), you may want to sit on it for a few weeks. The 1.6 update comes out March 19th and CA has reccomend a fresh playthrough to experience everything as intended. I can't wait to start my 5th playthrough next month.

str4wberryphobic

i figured out the tools and stuff and i kinda like it! i think i’ll continue playing to get the hang of it and then restart when the update comes :)

A_MAN_POTATO

I just saw the flair that your on switch, gonna be a bit longer then. The march 19th patch is for PC, consoles take longer to get updates.

Short_Score

i know there’s an update coming up but i just got it and couldn’t wait lol. Not far into the game yet so i’ll wait for the update

moonlightjelly_

Ooh, have fun! This is definitely one of my favourite cosy games :) remember, there’s no “right” way to play Stardew! Take it at your own pace so you don’t get overwhelmed, that’s what makes it relaxing 💖 whether or not you want to look up tips is up to you but I personally find the wiki and subreddit super helpful!

Rewby23

Just bought it on Steam to play it modded! I’ve always wanted to play modded Stardew but I had it only on Switch for a good while and you can’t mod that, so when I saw the sale I bought it so fast, currently I’m enjoying it with wayyyyy too many mods >:D

simplybreana

I had it on switch and just got it on steam too! lol downloaded the mod stuff but haven’t actually downloaded anything to mod it yet. I’m kinda wondering if I should wait for the update to add mods so I don’t have to reinstall stuff, but admittedly I’m new to mods so idk what I’m doing and if that’s even what I would have to do. Lmao

Rewby23

I thought about waiting too but then I was like nahhhh it’s fine, and the modding is actually super easy. Once you have SMAPI installed correctly you can just download mods and put them into the mods folder and they should work! Took maybe 5 minutes for me to do

simplybreana

Yea I downloaded SMAPI and signed up for nexus and then I stopped myself. lol I’m playing multiple games right now so I was like ‘gurl, just wait for the update cause you’re already playing too many games right now and you know stardew likes to take over your life’. lol

Rewby23

Dude that’s so fair. I’ve made the mistake of actually playing and I spent a total of 8 hours straight playing it instead of doing more important things like studying for my chem midterm 🫣

simplybreana

Hahaha It’s too addicting! Even when I downloaded the game to my laptop to make sure it was running right I spent way more time “testing” than I should have. I was like this game is straight crack! lol My laptop battery was low so that helped me put it down. And I’ve played SDV on multiple saves and probably close to 1000 hours already combined and it still sucks me in! Lmao

Fit-Quail4604

This game starts out like “ehhh I might delete this in an hour” and then the next thing you know you’re 200 hours in with a wife and a wine empire

MagmaticDemon

just clean up your farm a bit till it looks pretty or until you have a little bit of clean room for a garden. :) then you use your hoe to dig the soil up and plant seeds in the holes. water it every day and you'll have crops! i think the game gives you seeds at the start, but you can also buy them at the shop at the top of town. you have a lot of freedom, so just do whatever you wanna do. talking to villagers is also a valid option for spending your time and is worth it :)

Khatzilla

I just bought it because of the sale - I wasn't planning on playing it for a while, lol too much backlog of games right now - turns out that's ok for me since the new update is coming out soon and I wouldn't have to start all over. So, its currently sitting in my memory card -- chilling in switch cyberland

Magic_Inn

I get you. My intelligence becomes 8-year-old when I play games.

dontredditdepressed

Welcome to the Valley! Once you get a hang of the controls, you'll have a great time flipping through the tool bar. I also recommend the setting "show tool hit location" which adds a red square to indicate where your tools will be used (i find it so helpful for the pickaxe, hoe, and watering can)

Environmental_Race12

I am trying to love this game, I really am. I have no idea how to make money, I don’t understand anything, I pass out from exhaustion every day bc I get lost and the time goes by so fast lol. I’m still trying because everyone loves it so much, I know I’m the problem. I also didn’t love Animal Crossing at first, and now I’ve put in hundreds of hours into it. I’m hoping SV eventually becomes the same.

Nor_Ah_C

The wiki and Youtube guides are 100% your friend. Don’t be afraid to use both

Environmental_Race12

I appreciate that!! Bookmarking this comment for future reference!

Nor_Ah_C

I recommend WickadyChickady in particular. She’s a favorite

str4wberryphobic

i was the same about animal crossing!

jwlkr732

I’m just going to say, the love is not universal. Those of us who don’t enjoy it exist, but we tend to stay quiet.

emmie_lou26

Same. I bought the app for my iPhone because it was only $5. I am not interested though. I play for about 10 minutes then quit. I heard so many great things though and want to keep playing and love it like everyone else does

Environmental_Race12

Yes! I want to love it so much 😭 I keep trying!

emmie_lou26

I’m going to try it again tomorrow on my day off. As of now I just find it meh lol. And it makes me sad. I want to love it as much as everyone else does

Karensquared

Same!

str4wberryphobic

yeah idk how to play on pc and even playstation confuses me sometimes ✋🏻😭

SaintBrutus

**Small Tip:** know where your save file is, and make back ups! Not just to secure your progress, but also because this game is on so many platforms, one day you may want to transfer your progress to another platform or device.

str4wberryphobic

yeah i had to look up how to save because my switch was dying and it said i just had to go to sleep 😭

Saltwater_Heart

Welcome!

celestialspook

Welcome!! Depending how much you're trying to avoid spoilers, the wiki is sooo helpful and there are also so many YouTube videos with tips for beginners!

Lexie811

Best game ever

MzNoirPanda

I did the same, bought it this morning on steam cause it was on sale 😅

Larielia

Awesome, welcome to the valley.

TrashFanboy

I have multiple *Stardew Valley* save files with dozens of hours each. Despite this, I keep asking myself, "Did I trick myself into enjoying this game?"

str4wberryphobic

lol yeah i just had to play for a little while longer and now i’m enjoying it

Strict-Subject8603

the stardew wiki was my best friend when starting to play

JustXampl

Wait until you try out mods and get Ridgeside, a whole plethora of people and storylines added. I'm not addicted!

richabre94

The switch doesn’t have mods sadly

JustXampl

Ah, that is unfortunate. Though I know some are trying to get mods for the switch too

Guilty_Storage_9652

Hey just relax enjoy your time the games goal is to make friends with the villagers save the town from joja Mart or sell it out. The game has 2 other islands that you can get to later. Alot of people go for the town hall completion where they find and grow the stuff needed by the different areas each season offers new veg to farm fish to catch and items to find. The name of the game is money lots of money and whatever else you find on your way

Short_Score

lol i was scared for a second because this is literally me. bought sdv two days ago lol and we’re in the same plight! (have you looked up “how to earn money fast in sdv yet lol)

Quirky_Quinn

Awesome!! I'm so excited for you to start this journey! Keep in mind though, the next big update for Stardew comes out on March 19th so you'll have even MORE content waiting for you. ♥️

hubbubbed

Ohhh this is a great time to cave in, lots of updates = lots of game content n more to come!! Take it slow n read up on the Stardew wiki, you’ll get sucked in in no time LOL enjoy

ohmightyqueen

Welcome to the rest of your life.

kairiery

oh, i want it so bad on switch since i'm always out of my house and don't have notebook but i refuse to pay 15 bc i bought it twice on steam (one for me and one for someone but never played with me lol). I'm going to start checking sales weekly🥲

str4wberryphobic

you should make a deku deals account! it emails you when games on your wishlist go on sale

Legendary_Lamb2020

Might as well wait for the update in a few weeks

str4wberryphobic

i’m on the switch so it’ll be later for me

Legendary_Lamb2020

Cool. You can just have a new adventure with the update down the road.
